“Great house, great location.”
Reviewed 27 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Spent a great fortnight here with extended family. Lovely rural setting with amazing views from the terrace. Plenty of walking, cycling, and time spent in bars.
There were only 8 of us so we had the luxury of space.
The basement is huge and cool (temperature-wise) with room for bikes, kayaks, and just about anything else you care to take.
On the ground floor, the open plan dining room and living room is great for relaxing, eating, or planning the next day's adventures. You could even watch a DVD if you get *seriously* bored! (The WC under the stairs is very useful.)
There are 2 further floors of bedrooms and bathrooms. Each of the 2 floors has 2 twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms (these can easily be made into doubles) as well as a double room, and a bathroom. That's beds for 12 people, with 6 bathrooms between them. Plenty.
Upstairs from the bedrooms is the piece-de-resistance: the roof terrace with a sliding door onto a self contained 'bedsit' with 2 sofabeds, a bathroom, and a kitchen. I could happily have spent the whole 2 weeks up there, drinking chilled Rioja and watching the griffin vultures soaring past occasionally. Every meal made in the house was eaten on the roof terrace, and most nights were spent up there with a glass of something or other...
The village itself is on edge of the Pyrenees foothills and some large plains which stretch down past Lleida. Something for everyone. Balaguer is a 10 minute drive away and has everything you'd need. Lleida is a longer drive, but has a proper 'city' feel to it, so it's worth a visit.
A truly memorable holiday in an as-yet undiscovered part of Spain.

“A lovely old house in a great setting - 16 was a bit tight”
Reviewed 8 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

I stayed for a week with a group of 4 families - 7 adults and 9 children in all. Working out the logistics of the bedrooms was interesting and two couples ended up sleeping on sofa-beds, which weren't very comfortable. We carried one down into the basement which was beautifully cool (the rest of the house was hot). Camarassa is a delightful village with a surprising number of amenities; the shop near the Plaza Major is straight out of the 1950s but seems to sell everything! Rosa the housekeeper led a couple of fascinating early morning walks around the village, river and local lake. The village pool is great - really big - but doesn't open til 11am and costs 4 Euros a day per person now. We suggest the owners buy season tickets for the house (especially as photos in some websites misleadingly suggest that the pool belongs to Ca la Daina). As the 'first village in the Pyrenees' Camarassa is very easy to get to, but has stunning scenery and easy access to the high Pyrenees. One real treat was a live concert at the planetarium/observatory near Ager, when the roof slid back to reveal a sky filled with stars!

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 11 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

I stayed here with a group of 10 friends for a week, and we had a great time. There was plenty of space for everyone in the house and the roof terrace was a fantastic place to hang out in the evening. The local restaurant is great - very friendly and helpful. Camarasa is a lovely quiet little town with plenty of beautiful walks in the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

“Fabulous house”
Reviewed 18 January 2013 for a stay in April 2012

We went as a family plus friends. Lots of space to enjoy, most gorgeous log fire and dining area. we really enjoyed breakfasts on the top terrace enjoying the view and quietness. A home from home with everything you need in a really beautiful area. The local bakery had large cakes to die for and we used the stairs to work off the calories plus visiting the local winery for topping up supplies. great for a family get together and a relax!

“Camarasa is embedded in a stunning mountainous region”
Reviewed 5 September 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Ca La Daina is a beautifully spacious house with a fabulous roof terrace. My partner and I spent two weeks there, with various friends and relatives coming for either the first or 2nd week. Most caught flights to Barcelona and hired cars, and no one had problems finding us! We spent what turned out to be a major heatwave seeking out local pools and lakes which are plentiful. Two bars, a butchers, P.O. come general stores, greengrocers and a bakery (amazing pizza and croissants) provided most of our needs, but the Lidl in Balaguer (10 mins drive) proved useful. Cava was €1.69 a bottle! Penny and David had also provided us with comprehensive directions and instructions so that everything went well.

This place is great, if you like to be amongst local Catalonians, who go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Someone dropped off four home grown cucumbers during the second week, don't know who!

I would highly recommend this holiday home which has given me very many wonderful memories.

“Fabulous C17th house, but not completely as advertised”
Reviewed 26 July 2012 for a stay in July 2012

A group of 10 (6 adults, 4 children), we enjoyed feeling part of the local village. The house is five floors, has a lot of character and is spacious. It commands an excellent view of the village and mountains from the fifth floor. It dates from 1670, and has been carefully renovated. We loved that each bedroom had a bathroom - keeping both parents and children happy. The bathrooms are also well placed on every floor - making 8 bathrooms in total.

Our biggest criticism, however, is that we feel we were mislead by the advertisement on the website regarding the pool and the cleaning.

The swimming pool was not on site, and was the local pool which cost 4 Euros per day per adult, and 2,80 per child making this quite expensive for a group of 10 (around 35 Euros per day). Had we known there was no pool we would not have booked the house as this was something we had sought for the children. This should be made clear on the website, along with up to date costs of the community pool.

We were also not told on the website that we were expected to clean the house and do all the laundry before departing. I would recommend that this information be clearly stated. While on holiday we prefer to have the housework completed by a cleaner. We were told there was a cleaner, but apparently as the house is so big, we were expected to clean all the bathrooms and toilets, launder the sheets and towels, and sweep and mop the floors.

We were also asked to keep the kitchen equipment for the upstairs and downstairs kitchens separate; however, this was difficult as no list was provided of what belonged where, and clearly other holiday makers had already moved items.

Living in a tiny Spanish village gives you a real sense of local life, the area is wonderful, and offers a lot of scenic excursions. If you are not looking for a pool, are prepared to climb five flights of stairs each day, spend a few hours cleaning the house and doing the laundry at the end of stay then this is the house for you.
