Went to Gibraltar with my daughter for a one off trip, was awesome, managed to go with the car which gave us chance to explore the whole island. Petrol so cheap so filled up whilst there, also stocked up on perfume. Cigarettes and alcohol very cheap but didn't indulge.Waited until 6pm to drive up the rock as free, parked up and met the apes, so funny, got some amazing pictures of baby apes and got up close to them, though too close to my car, as fascinated by my aerial and back windscreen wiper, so much so they broke it off!!! Never laughed so much in ages, have it on video and think will send to Harry Hill! Well worth a trip.

The apes, for me, were the highlight of our little side trip to Gibraltar. They are very entertaining and you're almost guaranteed to see them. We took the taxi tour because our time was very short. We were glad we did, because we were able to get a photo with an ape on each of our heads. One of the most memorable parts of our entire trip. A little baby ape climbed up on me twice!

Sunny day and apparently we had a leaf behind our windshield wiper. One of the monkeys decided to jump the car, grab the leaf, and proceed to munch on it. We tried to move the car, but the monkey continued to stay on the hood. Of course cameras came out for pictures, we ensured our windows were closed, and it was good fun.

To top it off, it posed on the mirror. Brilliant.

Visited Gibraltar and caves and we had a fantastic time. The guides were very good. We enjoyed the Rock and we hope to go back again next year as we could not see all we wanted to see in the time we had. Recommended

Barbary Macaques are not the prettiest of primates but they're very friendly and amenable. Having been on the receiving end of several acts of aggression from Indian and African monkeys (I've ended up in the School of tropical medicine on one occasion when my GP feared Green Monkey disease) it's rather lovely to have the chance to interact with apes without having to worry about rabies or other diseases. These are very well looked after, fed vegetables every day and cared for by vets and professionals who keep a close eye on them and they are very tame.

Don't turn your back on one if you don't want it to hop up and climb on you. Small children who were on our tour were pretty scared and one Spanish lady at the St Michaels Cave was screaming her head off. Don't visit the apes if you have a toupee! They'd have it off in seconds.

Many of the beasties love jumping on the vehicles and breaking into them. The local drivers know how to deal with them but if you are there with your own car, you should take care and consider going with an organised tour to minimise the risk of damage.
