This is a budget hotel and that is what you get. The location is perfect, right in the centre of the beating heart of Madrid on Calle Grande Villa surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants. There are two metro stations just a short distance away, lots of buses pass by and the nearest local overground train station is just a 10 minute walk to Puerta del Sol. The hotel itself is rather old and dated, but crucially the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. The staff were also very helpful and speak very good English. This is the type of place to stay for a short visit whilst exploring vibrant Madrid when you do not intend to spend a lot of time in your room. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a exceptionally clean hotel, my compliments to whoever does the cleaning. I have not once heard any noise by cleaners when trying to sleep, which is ALWAYS disturbing in hotels, Madrid and elsewhere.
Plumbing is very noisy and old.
I was let to see 7 different rooms when I came, so I chose the one I have had before (no 13) because it happened to be the best of those and I like to have a view to the street and look at people. There are rooms with or without bath/toilet as most hostels in Madrid do.
Personnel is very friendly but not over-, which is also a good thing. I overheard them speaking English and French as well.
However, I will not return if given a choice for these reasons:
1. There is no lamp for reading. I need it. 2. There is only one socket, in the bathroom, very high, so charginh a phone demands a lot of innovation. If you have more appliances or more than one person (this is a double room) you're on your own. 4. The A/C is turned of by every once in a while and you have to ask the reception to turn it on again although it SHOULD came back alive when turned on when the balcony door is closed, it didn't, on several occasions. The phone was dead so you'd have to go to the reception to ask this.
5. Wifi is inconsistent and slow.
6. You have your basic Spanish cylinder pillow, only more uncomfortable than most. Guaranteed to give you a sore neck if you're over 20, as I am.
Other than that, the place is fine and the noise from the street didn't bother me, the windows and curtains block most of it. If noise bothers you, ask for an interior room and hope you have quiet neighbours. The walls are thin, but not more than all the other hostels I've been in in Madrid, and I have been in quite a many.

Absolutely jewel as it is cheap and location is great, great if you not expect high quality modern interior, but I was there to explore city not to shine in my room :) however hostel is very clean. staff is very friendly and helpful, they speak french, english and spanish, our room was specious enough for two people, staff changed towels and room was cleaned every day. It is a bit noisy from the street but its super cheap and on the Gran Via main street.
