The room was large, clean well maintained. Nice lounge area within the room with comfy settee. Bed was really comfy. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They even stored our bikes so we didn't have to leave them on the back of the car overnight. Easy to get to from motorway. Would highly recommend.

Room tip: Ask for back of the hotel away from road.

Pros:
- the housekeeping staff is the best. The room is very well cleaned.
- train station nearby.
- near to bus stop with a direct bus to the airport
- big room
- big bed that is very comfortable to sleep on

Cons:
- No kettle still in spite of many reviews already lamenting the lack of one!!!!
- Location not in downtown (but that is why the rates are cheaper)
- Not too many restaurants opened for dinner in the vicinity

Had a recent business trip to Madrid and came across the El Madrono via a booking website.
First impressions were not great as the 'street appeal' on what looks like an urban side street gave us a little feeling of trepidation. The perception improved slightly when we entered the hotel as the reception was large and airy but very traditional in style with lots of dark wood and wall panels.
The staff member on reception was fantastic, making us feel instantly welcome. We stayed in a room on the 3rd floor accessed by rickety lifts and corridors where the lights come on as you walk down them and the bedroom door was painted an interesting shade of lilac!
The room however was cavernous consisting of a roomy ensuite with separate loo, albeit both had glass doors! The room opened out in to a very spacious lounge area wit sofas, coffee table etc and then the sleeping area. This had some interesting lighting and a semi reflective panel above the whole enormous bed. tasteful not kinky:) The bed was made up of 2 large single totalling some 8 feet from one side toe the other. Said goodnight to the wife and never saw or heard a thing from her until the morning.
In daylight we had the chance to look out of the floor to ceiling windows to see a delightful garden in the courtyard consisting of evergreen trees and shrubs and pathways.
Breakfast was good with the array of meats, cheeses, fruits, breads etc etc and lovely freshly pressed orange juice. Nothing hot available.
The location is not bad being apx half way between downtown Madrid and the airport and has good access to the Metro (apx 100 mtrs) and even the City Tour bus stop if you don't mind a good 10 - 15 minute walk.
The hotel does not serve evening meals but you can order a selection of food via room service where we were pleased to learn were reasonably priced. There a a number of restaurants within easy walking distance of the El Madrono and we became regulars for breakfast and dinner at the café at the end of the street.
We stayed for 3 nights and the excellent levels helpfulness and courteousness never dipped.
Give it a go

Good business and conference hotel in the modern part of town. Large rooms with kitchenettes, great breakfast buffet. Tip: ask for a room on the garden side, which is quiet and has a nice view. Easy access to the old part of town using metro line number 5.

I visited this hotel for one night with my daughter. I had booked a room for 3 people which had 2 single beds and a sofa bed. The room was very spacious and had 2 large wardrobes and a kitchen area which had an electric hob, a microwave, a fridge, sink and kitchen utensils. There was also a coffee maker, but personally, I would prefer a kettle. The bathroom was very modern and contained lots of toiletries were provided including toothbrushes, comb and shaving set. I really feel that the hotel should provide washing and drying facilities for the crockery as I had to leave dirty cups and dishes in the sink as there wasn't any washing up liquid or a tea towel.
The staff were very friendly and check in was very quick and we left our bags as we arrived so early. The hotel was a very short metro ride away from the centre and the metro station is a few minutes walk away. I would definitely stay in this hotel again.
