We stayed for a week at San Blas, and I can confirm some of the complains: the rooms are not very large and the sound level can be irritating at times. But it only takes one night to get used to it and then you will see the good side of this place.
The location is really good specially if you travel by train ( to and from Madrid) and if you'll look for metro and walking as your ways to navigate the city. The Atocha metro station is really close ( 2 minutes walk to the entrance) and some of the most important touristic objectives are within your walking reach from this location.
In addition to the location, we appreciated the friendly staff, and the cleanliness of the place. The cleaning lady was changing towels daily, kept our bath provisions at the expected levels and the entire room as welcoming us clean and tidy in the evenings when we returned to the room.
We've been recently to other 3 and 4 stars hotels in various Spanish cities, and honestly not even all 4 stars hotels matched the cleanliness of this small Hostal.More
