Let's face it, not luxury accomodation by any stretch of the imagination, but they don't claim to be offering that. Very basic, but always clean. Room is spacious enough with a full bathroom. Air conditioned with TV, although the TV didn't always work (but I didn't care). Location is great and an easy walk to most areas of interest and the Metro. Very close to Puerta de Sol. Safe area. No direct elevator to your floor...I was on the third floor and had to walk up each time...I didn't mind, but keep this in mind if that bothers you.

If you're on a budget and are looking for very basic, clean accomodation, this is a good one.

These rooms were clean! As far as the accomodations, they were adequate. But the price and location well made up for any amenities it lacked. There are quite a few eating establishments very near. Shopping was very close. Attractions were a very easy walk from this location!

We had a great time!

Hostal Aguilar is on the second floor of C. San Jeronimo. A great location, it is the perfect place to stay for people on budgets. It's really easy to get around the city, either by walking or using the subway(Sol & Sevilla are the closest metro stops). There are shops and restaurants close by, and people constantly walking around. It is a safe and well lit neighborhood, even at 1AM. If you can't find what you need on San Jeronimo, El Sol is two blocks away and has everything you could want.

The hotel itself is quite dark and spartan. It is much like a college dorm room, with plush couches in the main hall and brown speckled floors or linoleum tiles in the hallways and rooms. The beds are so uncomfortable and very basic. My sheets didn't even extend all the way to the end of my bed. The bathroom is exceptionally clean and was my favorite part about the hotel.

Hemingway stayed here in room 107(I believe that is the number....it is the room straight across from the reception desk), which is a fun factoid and consoles you amidst the bleakness of the decor.

The staff is very friendly and helpful about Madrid and the local area...and there is a lockout of the main door after 11, so ring up to the front desk if those glass doors are shut. It's a great safety precaution and definitely made me feel more safe.

It made me depressed to stay in such a dark place, but it has its redeeming qualities. If you can deal with the dimly lit rooms and hallways and the spartan decor, this is a great deal for travelers in Madrid.
