“Great Basic Hotel, Wonderful Location”
Reviewed 7 June 2010

Hostal Aguilar exceeded my expectations of a basic economy hotel.
Reception was exremely helpful and accommodating. I had a single room ensuite that was very clean and comfortable.
The location, only a few minutes walk to the prado / park and thyessen, and in the heart of the city, was truly a wonderful surprise. And being a few blocks from the metro makes hopping to any other section you don't want to walk to extremely easy.
I would stay here again in a minute and recommend it to anyone.

Hostel is just in the center of Madrid. Its Only 3 minutes walk to Puert del Sol. Stuff was friendly; can talk English. Rooms were clean and quiet. As its name is an hostel i can say its bigger and confortable than many 3 stars. tv and safebox in the room. There is an internet pc (with a reasonable price) and a coffee-cold drinks and snack automats in the lobby.

The Aguilar exceeded our expectations. Excellent value, as good a location as you would wish for, comfy beds, a lovely balcony and surprisingly quiet.
I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a good basic bed for the night.

I have been taking a group of art students to Madrid for many years and we always stay in Hostal Aguilar. One reason is that it is very afordable for students, especially if they share. Secondly it is within a short walking distance of The Prado, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Reina Sofia gallery. The railway station is also a short walk away. The rooms are clean and towels are supplied. This family run establishment is consistent and the same helpful and friendly people are there year in year out. Value for money and convenience is why I have given this hostal five stars.

This was a great find. It was a block away from Puerta del Sol. The area was safe and next to all bars, restaurants and shopping. The lighting in the hotel and room was very dim but room was big meaning quite big and clean. The front desk was very helpful and we saw a good flamingo show in tabla ( I dont remember the exact name) but it was behind the palace. The hotel was close the the subway so very easy to get to and fro from the airport.

Let's face it, not luxury accomodation by any stretch of the imagination, but they don't claim to be offering that. Very basic, but always clean. Room is spacious enough with a full bathroom. Air conditioned with TV, although the TV didn't always work (but I didn't care). Location is great and an easy walk to most areas of interest and the Metro. Very close to Puerta de Sol. Safe area. No direct elevator to your floor...I was on the third floor and had to walk up each time...I didn't mind, but keep this in mind if that bothers you.

If you're on a budget and are looking for very basic, clean accomodation, this is a good one.

These rooms were clean! As far as the accomodations, they were adequate. But the price and location well made up for any amenities it lacked. There are quite a few eating establishments very near. Shopping was very close. Attractions were a very easy walk from this location!

We had a great time!
