We've just returned from a four night stay at the Caro Hotel, together with our two children (in their twenties) and their partners, to celebrate a significant wedding anniversary. This is our fourth time at this hotel and we normally come in the autumn as it's cooler but we loved being here in July to experience the city in intense heat! We had a spacious room with a balcony which meant we could enjoy outdoor siestas on our sun-loungers after some very late nights/early mornings! The children loved their rooms too, one of which had an amazing circular bath! We loved having a dip in the 'fish tank' pool on the terrace for the first time and really enjoyed the cocktails whilst perched by the pool! The buffet breakfast choice is amazing and delicious cooked options are available and were served by such a lovely waitress, whilst we were there! All the staff are so friendly and helpful, particularly those on Reception - shout out for Gloria particularly, who had a bottle of bubbly & plate of petit fours sent up to our room on our actual anniversary! We'll probably always stay at the Caro when visiting Valencia for the above reasons but also for the great location in the old part of the city.

Room Tip: Request one with a balcony to make the most of the weather!

Loved this place from the moment we stepped into the foyer. The room was very large and all the amenities you needed except an iron which they do not provide. The food the bar all great.
The staff bent over backwards to help with beauty appts and restaurant recommendations. Want to come back.

A really nice boutique hotel in the old part of the city. Easy access in quiet area. Beautiful and spacious room (stayed in number 23, Padre Tosca's Window). Free mini bar with a small selection of water, juices, sodas, crisps and nuts. Beds were comfortable. The breakfast was great. I especially loved the pancakes and fresh orange juice. They also make the kind of eggs you want. Good service! We will definitely recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in June. Upon arrival we were promptly greeted by the very accommodating staff; they were impeccable our entire stay.

Architecturally, the integration of old and new world was very intentional in the update of this hotel, and we were pleasantly surprised by the spaces created throughout the building (bar, outdoor area, lounges, restaurant, and the like).

The location is absolutely ideal. The hotel is a very short walk to the heart of several squares, and is also close to the walking/running/cycling park that curves around the city (the old riverbed). We couldn't have asked for a better place to call 'home base' in Valencia.

Our room was #10, with the terrace, and the outdoor balcony seats made for a great place to relax after a long walk around town each day, listening to the sparrows and parrots overhead. The room was great in size, and was very clean.

As with any 5-star rating, there are a few areas this hotel could improve in:
1. Better sound dampening: Unfortunately, we could hear the guests in the room next to us as if they were in our own bathroom down the hall, including their TV in the mornings and evenings. I suspect this was due to the shared door (which would allow the rooms to be connected into a much larger suite). Too bad the thermostat wouldn't allow us to only run the fan, which would have helped a little. Perhaps a better soundproof door would do the trick.
2. Coffee/tea machine in the room: While the staff was always available to get us anything we wanted, seemingly at any time, it would have been nice to have had the ability to make a quick cup of coffee or tea on our own in the room.
3. Prohibit smoking in the outdoor lounge: Having a terrace and balcony is always a trade-off. In this case, it was coping with the noise (tolerable) and smoke (less tolerable) coming from the nice outdoor area (with pool) just below our balcony. I'm categorically disappointed in how much Europeans smoke, making each outdoor area a place to light up. This is was no exception. Morning and night, opening the terrace doors would be met with smoke sooner or later coming into our room from down below. Making this area non-smoking would be a wise, and appreciated, change.

All that said, we would gladly stay at this hotel again. The staff, location, and esthetics of the hotel make it clear winner.

We stayed at the Caro Hotel for two nights in the 'City Door' room. The room itself was fascinating due to the history that went with it as well as having a large king bed. Alex was a great host who gave us lots of information about the hotel, the discoveries during the renovations as well as great insights into Valencia. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel due to both the staff and amenities.

Room Tip: Have a good look on the website as all rooms are different.

My review really needs to be taken in the context of the price being charged for this hotel - its is quite hefty and therefore really should be top notch in all ways.

First the good

- location is amazing. Literally a 5 minute walk (and a safe one) from the old quarter
- staff. All very polite and helpful
- comfy bed and nice pillow choice
- little complimentary cake deliveries in the pm
- allowed us to borrow beach towels and plug converters which we had forgotten

The "could do better"

- wifi is really not very good. Couldn't watch anything on line for example. If I had been here for work this would have been very frustrating as most connectivity (calls and videoconferencing) is over data now.

- no conditioner! Everything in bathroom is bulgari which is nice but no conditioner. I asked one or the maids and they said didn't provide. Quite frustrating for me with long hair

- breakfasts. The quality was a bit hit and miss and I really don't think worth the money at all. Toast that came with eggs was very very dry - started making my own with the crusty bread. We ordered pancakes one day and only had one mouthful - very greasy and tasted slightly odd.

- no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. They do compensate for this by delivering tea free but not coffee. The tea also wasn't very nice though as by the time you tried to make it the water was way off boiling.

Overall I don't think I would recommend this hotel for the price. Nothing fundamentally wrong but also don't think it's worth the premium.

Dear Debbie,

We regret reading that your stay at Caro Hotel did not fully live up to your expectations. It does not happen easily that a guest has second thoughts about their experience. At the end of the day our duty is to manage your expectations and it always saddens us when we are not able to fully please our guests.

After recent incidents that have also been mentioned here on Trip Advisor, our Wifi is now under continuous supervision by an external company. We did not receive further complaints during the time you stayed with us but we are very much aware that certain devices have restrictions, especially in a historical building such as ours. Thick walls are certainly challenging for telecommunications.

We were very concerned about your words regarding our breakfast which is highly valued by our customers and your experience is absolutely not up to the standard. Please accept our apologies, our chef has been informed and he will personally look into this matter.

Our housekeepers are a very dedicated team, and they know very well that we provide Bvlgari hair conditioner upon request for our guests. There is even an amenity card in the bathroom, stating to call reception in case you require additional items. The only explanation we can give you is that this was a misunderstanding. We were very surprised to learn about this.

Your review is without a doubt genuine and we appreciate you highlighting positive things about your stay as well as other aspects where you felt they needed to be heard. We do hope you will consider staying with us again. If so, it will be our pleasure to personally manage your booking in advance.

Best regards,
Martin Stöger / Team Caro Hotel

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Caro Hotel is a five-star monument hotel located in the heart of the city of Valencia. An urban and commercially independent hotel, its 26 rooms, all unique in themselves, and gastronomic restaurant are fine examples of the singular and highly respectful integration of its contemporary interior design, characterised by clean, geometric lines, designed by Francesc Rifé, with the original historical, architectonic features of the building. Below the eclectic appearance of a nineteenth-century palace, the hotel walls stand guard over a legacy of more than 2,000 years of history, which includes an original mosaic belonging to the founding of Valencia in the Roman era (2nd century BC.), the thirteenth-century Arabic defensive wall, several gothic arches and nineteenth-century constructions which, together with its warm, friendly, client-focused service, make this establishment a high quality must for all travellers who wish to enjoy a memorable hotel experience from a different perspective. ... more   less
