Only had one night here but it was bliss. Staff are all passionate and welcoming. Having a bath in a cave wasn't on my bucket list before but now I dream about the tub in our room. Make sure you get up early one morning and wander down over the ravine and up the other side, then come back for a big breakfast.

The hotel is unique and this means its not for everyone. The rooms are literally caves and the atmosphere inside them is historic. They are dimly lit by candlelight and some outside light in parts. We had a separate bathroom and separate shower and this allowed us to make the most of the unique nature of each room. The breakfast was superb with lots of locally made products using local ingredients. The one downside of the hotel is the lack of a sitting out area which is due to the geographic limitations of been built into a hillside! There is free parking but it is in a public car park and spaces are not guaranteed. The front cave staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about Matera and don't push any particular trips or tours on you but leave you to ask for help and advice which I prefer. The town of Matera and the Sassi are simply a must see and it would be difficult to stay in a more appropriate hotel.

Well what an experience, this is a must do if you stay in the beautiful town of Matera. Each cave has its unique features and shape. The staff are very friendly service is great. Located in the old part of Matera.

We stayed here for two nights. When we arrived we were taken aback by our room, which was just so wonderful and unique. On the second day we were told that we were being upgraded and the staff moved us to an even more incredible cave. The porter was always on hand to bring drinks or snacks. The breakfast was super and there was lots of variety. We arranged a tour through the hotel which I would recommend doing - we went on a night tour of Matera, the guide was so informative and we got some great pictures.

We stayed in room number 15, it was amazing! Candles were lit, a complimentary fruit bowl was out with some of the best fruit we've ever eaten, and it was just a perfect romantic setting. The hotel staff was so friendly and helpful. Side Note: They have a private dinner package available but you MUST reserve that days in advance or you will not be able to have it.

Room tip: 15 was great, not sure how it was in comparison to the rest.
