“Stunning Situation for a Stay in Sorrento”
Reviewed 23 November 2011

Loved our holiday here. It was a present for my partner's 60th and he thought it was great.
Despite being 2-3 km out of Sorrento, it is situated in the hills and the views over the Bay of Naples are some of the best. Vesuvius was directly opposite. The staff were all very friendly and the head waiter was always ready to help. Food was varied and tasty. Breakfast was adequate with boiled eggs every day if you wanted them with rolls, bread, jams, ham and cheese. Plus yogurt if you wanted it. You order your evening meal at breakfast, but if you change your mind in the evening it is no problem.
The free shuttle bus was good and reliable.
The lunches were a little expensive but tasty. The pool area and sunterrace were very nice although it was too chilly to swim.
Our room was good, all you need for a week's stay and clean sheets and towels most days.
We would certainly go there again.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms have stunning views

We stayed at hotel La Vue D'Or for four nights. The room was clean, a little outdated. The balcony view was beautiful. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The location is not in the city center but the free shuttle came often and was very reliable. The restaurant food in the hotel is decent. If you wanted to eat near the hotel, you would probaly have to take a taxi.

I stayed in this Hotel in the second week of October on a holiday organised by Riviera Travel. The hotel has great views looking over the Bay of Naples, and we had a lovely room with a balcony. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I have Coeliac Disease and they were able to accommodate my diet, providing bread, cereal, and pasta. They were happy to supply wine with the evening meal and if you still had some in the bottle, they would keep it for the following evening. A good value, comfortable hotel with a frequent minibus service into Sorrento.

Room Tip: rooms on the front looking towards Naples are great

Great place. Great views of Serrento and Bay. Great staff. They didn't have a ice machine for ice to chill our wine. The bartenter took our wine and kept it in their wine cooler for us so that when we got back at the end of the day we could have a chilled glass of wine on our patio & enjoy the view. They even supplied the wine glasses. I was willing to pay for the service but they wouldn't take a dime.Take Hotels arranged Almalfi Coast tour.Cost 34 euros each.Pickup at 7:30am,bach at 5:30 - 6pm. This was the the most amazing day.Lunch was included and so was the wine. Wonderful sea food lunch and view from the Hotel on the hillside. For an extra 10 euros, we had a 1 hr long boat trip along the coast of Almalfi.
They have an excellent buffet breakfast and wonderfull service. We had dinner in their restaurant twice; again excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view

Good value half board deal with Thomson
Very friendly staff who took care of us on honeymoon
Shuttle bus was excellent and really helped.
Weather not great for sunbathing whilst we were there but this meant we spent plenty of time exploring Sorrento.
Food was a very good standard and choice good for what we paid. Enjoyed morning coffees with my new husband looking out over to Vesuvio

Stayed end Oct for a week - weather is changeable - temp early 20's nice & sunny, rain can be heavy & last all day! ( 2 days out of week). Pompeii in a deluge is interesting but did spoil the tour!
Hotel is located well away from Sorrento centre , in a secluded spot, a bus ride using the free shuttle service is best way to reach town. We did try the walk once, there is a path/track/road which mostly avoids the busy main road with no pavement, it took around 45 mins & was a little steep & hazardous in places, impossible at night I expect.
Staff at Vue D'Or are extremely helpful & friendly in all the areas especially the head waiter who was great.
Rooms were fine, nothing special, ours did have the Vesuvius view, clean- bathroom functional, could've had a shelf! Worked out the heating system but it was not consistent,
Food was reasonable, different menu each night & despite being asked to order in advance it was possible to turn up without notice. Local wine was cheaper & drinkable. Breakfast was usual continental fayre.
Bar was London prices + (beer pint - 5.5 Euros for Peroni) lounge area comfortable.
If the weather is poor, you are stuck in the hotel unless you are the hardy type; food at the bar is quite pricey (small plate of Ravioli 9 Euros.)
Pool was freezing & at this time of year didn't see much of the sun on the 'Solarium'.
Great centre for trips to Amalfi/Capri. Also Pompeii (don't miss Herculaneum), Vesuvius & Naples which are over an hour away by coach along narrow curvy roads (Drivers are fearless to say the least) we were travelling with a tour company called Riviera which included these trips in the price.
If I was to stay in Sorrento again I would pick a hotel nearer town (probably not in town) so that it was walkable. Having said that the surrounding area & views were outstanding.
All said & done a nice hotel for a week; we were travelling in an extended family group, ages 12 to 70 we all enjoyed ourselves.
.

Room Tip: We were in rooms 164/165 & 166 all had Vesuvius views.

Just returned from a week at this hotel during October half term. The hotel is very comfortable and located outside Sorrento on the mountainside west of Sorrento itself. There is a regular shuttle bus service to and from Sorrento that takes about 10 mins - I wouldn't advise walking as it is a steep climb back and there are no pavements! It is mainly used by Thompson/Riviera Travel as a base hotel for excursions visiting Pompeii/Naples/Vesuvius and the Amalfi coast (as we were).
Photos are accurate and food is fine - breakfast 7-10am and includes (tinned) fruit, cereal, yoghurts, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, toast, etc. Evening meal is ordered at breakfast but you can change your mind. 3 courses with good alternatives including vegetarian options - simple local Neapolitan dishes but well cooked and very tasty (definitely no chips, etc.) Be aware that if travelling with a tour operator you will probably be expected to share a table with other guests.
Only a few rooms appear to face north with a direct view of Vesuvius - most look out east over the bay of Sorrento and mountains which is actually just as nice. Floors 5&6 are actually downstairs from the reception level. The electrics in our room were a little quirky and took some getting used to eg the heating/air con only came on when the door key card was not in the card slot in the room which was counter intuitive.
The staff are very friendly if you take the time to engage with them. Bar prices are reasonable considering they have something of captive audience being so far out of town.
Would stay here again but as a base for touring the area during the day time.

Room Tip: Probably even better views from floors 1-3
