“All inclusive special occasion holiday”
Reviewed 10 October 2011

We went with Thomson all-inclusive for my 60th birthday & our 40th wedding anniversary which both occurred over a weekend in late September. Hotel was very tidy with beautiful marble floors and staircase. Bedroom was large enough with balcony, but as our room was on the first floor the view was of the trees opposite (higher floors would have had a distant view of the sea). Didn't notice traffic noise mentioned in other reviews. Took 2 of the organised tours (Amalfi drive and Pompeii/Herculaneum) but thought they were a bit expensive however both were spectacular and I was most impressed by Herculaneum, as well as by the meal which was part of the tour between both venues. Guides were good - Alberio on the Amalfi drive and Nancy at Pompeii and Herculaneum. We made our own way to Monte Cassino as organised trips were on a Monday (the day of our arrival and departure). Hotel staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Pepe was charming and greeted us each day. They arranged a birthday cake for me on the Saturday and an anniversary cake (with Asti Spumante) on the Sunday. Bar staff were attentive and remembered our requirements. We walked into Sorrento one day but all other times took the complimentary hotel minibus as the road was busy and there are no pavements for the first part of the walk. We had packed lunch (ordered the night before) on three days and were not disappointed. We would happily return to the Atlantic Palace.

Room Tip: Choose floor 2 or higher at front for a sea view

we went via Thomson/Thomas Cook Holidays .lovely hotel!
I would suggest you go all inclusive plenty of branded spirits - drinks anywhere in sorrento are much more expensive than UK . In fact everything in \sorrento is more expensive .

When we arrived at 10pm we thought we would have to find somewhere to eat - no - all of the waiters were in line waiting for our small arrival group of 8 - and a large buffet table laid out with lovely food .They were all amazing - pepe head waiter was so funny yet professional - not only that night but all through the holiday - always greeting us with a smile and each had their own personality ! You can book a packed lunch if required the nite before if you are going out next day , which is fairly decent .
A bottle asti spumanti in ice bucket in room on arrival was a lovely touch ...... a packed lunch ....fantastic ..we probably had the best hotel and bar quite spacious and comfortable........all staff friendly and helpful and very smartly dressed, especially bar and restaurant food is really good - they will do their best to accomodate you the breakfast and evening meal buffet table nice little if you don`t want choice on menu.Hotel about 1.5 miles to centre of town.......walking dodgy ...no pavements free hotel mini-bus until late at night......book via reception The rooms were comfortable, well cleaned daily by a lovely friendly chamber maid. Would recommend! Sorrento is lovely!Pompeii brill!

Room Tip: higher floors at front of hotel lovely views

We spent the first 2 weeks of September at the Atlantic Palace on an all inclusive basis with Thomas Cook for less than £900 each. The weather was excellent, mainly sunny, no rain and temperatures in the 80s F. every day.The hotel is on a busy road into Sorrento, and we chose a quieter room at the back, with a balcolny, but very limited view. Even at the front, it is difficult to imagine a sea view, as it is obscured by trees.
The room was of a standard type for a 4* hotel, functional rather than luxurious, a little tired round the edges, but with good storage space, comfotable bed, fridge, free safe, and a really aincient Grundig T. V., with poor reception. The bathroom, which was in need of some updating, was clean and had a bath with shower curtain, and a bidet.
The bar and reception area were adequate for a 96 bedroom hotel, and the dining area was smart and comfortable. We were disappointed with the size of the swimming pool. If there were just 3 competent swimmers in the deep end, it was over crowded. There were easily enough sun beds, with free towels, which could be changed each day. The pool attendant/barman was not always there as he doubled as a waiter in the pleasant outdoor lunch area.
The breakfast was standard fare buffet style, with both English and Continetal available.
Lunch was always the same menu, but a reasonable choice including pizza and Palma ham with melon. The salads were unimaginative. Dinner commenced with a fairy uninteresting buffet, then a starter and main course, with waiter service and a choice of 4 dishes. Pasta featured quite heavily, but we found the food to be warm and of good quality. Finally there was a buffet dessert consisting of fruit or rather synthetic Italian cake syle puddings, plus, of course, ice cream. There was not much choice for vegetarians. The weekly gala night on Thursdays had no starter or main course choice, but was good fun, if rather manic. Wine, of not of terribly good quality, was served by the bottle rather than the glass, and most people seemed to drink the rose. Water by the bottle was freely available.
The staff were generally older than we expected, but amusing and attentive, as were the bar staff. The head waiter Pepe, had a wicked sense of humour,
There was a free shuttle bus into Sorrento, as there was to a nearby beach, or more descriptively, rocky cove, with free sun beds, (take a hotel pool towel), and wonderful swimming in the deep, warm sea.
We did buy some rather expnsive trips with the very helpful Thomas Cook rep., Steve. We can recommend the minibus/boat ride along the Amalfi coast, and Pompei/Herculanium, and a little less so, the one to Ishcia.
To summarise; an enjoyable holiday, but you must go all inclusive, as lunch will cost you E. 15 - 20, the excellent Peroini draught beer E.5 a glass, a gin and tonic E.8.50., a bottle of mediocre wine E.15 and a small bottle of water E.1.5.

we went via Riviera Holidays . we asked for high room with sea view. Got room 530.......penthouse
type room ,top floor of annexe, about 50 yds from main building.Huge balcony with sun lougers, table .4 chairs.......distant views to sea and Vesuvius...as good as could be in that hotel...plus bottle asti spumanti in ice bucket ..........fantastic
Many other rooms face the distant sea....we probably had the best
hotel and bar quite spacious and comfortable........all staff friendly and helpful and very smartly dressed, especially bar and restaurant
food is good ,but you need to ask sometimes to clarify menu...as might expect much food is italian in style.....but they will do their best to accomodate you
the breakfast and evening meal buffet table starters is very large and comprehensive
drinks sound expensive, but no more generally than prices in many bars in Sorrento
although I thought evening meal wine a bit too expensive...we drank beer...5e per half litre.
nice little pool and area to the side
Hotel about 1.5 miles to centre of town.......walking dodgy ...no pavements
free hotel mini-bus until late at night......book via reception
A very nice hotel overall..........a very nice stay

Room Tip: ask for high room, sea view.....but check if you pay extra

Thorougly enjoyed our first trip to Sorrento in May this year. Agood mix of age groups in our party was no problem for the staff of The Grand Atlantic Palace hotel on via Capo. my wife and I occupied a double room, our 14 year old daughter shared an adjacent room with my mother in law who may be in her 76th year but is a seasoned and enthusiastic traveller. The hotel is a little jaded architecturally, some of the poured concrete structure cuold do with alittle t l c,and a refurbishment of the en suite bathrooms wouldn't go amiss. Having said that, the rooms were comfortable, well cleaned daily by a very friendly chamber maid and as our rooms were located at the front of the building on the third floor, we enjoyed a panoramic view of the bay of Naples and the slumbering mass of Mount Vesuvius. The view actually improved as the week progressed, due entirely to the efforts of a gang of tree fellas' who were busy lowering the crowns of the pine trees situated in the grounds of the camp site on the opposite side of the road. Evidently ,the complaints of some hotel patrons on lower floors who couldn't see the view was taken very seriously by the hotel management.. and acted upon! This it would seem was possible because the the same company owned both the hotel, and the camp site.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are close to the road and suffer traffic noise

We came back yesterday from the Atlantic Palace.

The food we thought excellent, the staff helpful, the rooms clean and well presented. I admit the bathroom was slightly dated but clean so no real complaints.

One quibble was the fact it was a bus ride away from Sorrento itself. We went with a tour so most days we were out with them, but on the very few times we had to ourselves you couldn't walk anywhere, that is if you value your life as the driving and roads around there are busy and winding with no pavements. Having said that I did know before I got there and still booked it, but being the sort who likes to take a stroll now and then it wasn't quite what I like.

Another thing is the road directly outside the hotel. It is constantly busy and if like us you faced the sea at the front, if you sat on the balcony your main view was coaches and scooters rushing up and down. If you were round the back you looked at a brick wall.

Anyway we had a great trip and the hotel was great, I would go back again.

Room Tip: If you want a view a room at the front, once the patio doors are closed you do not hear the traffic

Have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel and we were more than happy with our experience of it.
rather strange to be wecomed with a bottle of win ein theroom and not a bottle of water as you cannot drink the watewr from the room as it is a mixer tap.
excellent check in ,reception always efficient ,room a bit jaded but cleaned every day with fresh towels .
safe in room, but no kettle faclilities.
Restaurant very welcoming by the maitre d every time we used it and food a bit unusual sometimes but overall they went out of their way to please /accomodate tastes.no one would go hungary.
Very handy shuttle bus and excellent value at 1 euro return to town.
pool small with limited availability of service at pool bar sometimes.
overall a pleasant stay with friendly helpful staff and would definately stay there again

Room Tip: front rooms could be noisy with traffic, back rooms look over greenery and hills
