We visited the Sorrento area between Nov 14-16 , 2011 during our 16 day tour of Italy.
The II Roseto was choosen by us prior to leaving Canada generally based on the Tripadvisor reviews and the value.
We arrived in the Sorrento area after driving from Chianti ( about 5 hrs north ) . Unfortunately our GPS took us through a couple of the seaside town that lie between Naples and Sorrento and that experience is one I shall not soon forget !
The B and B itself is difficult to find in the first instance . We drove past it twice despite our GPS announcing we had arrived. It is poorly marked but obviously once you find it the first time , it is easy to find it each time thereafter.

In any case , we pulled through the electrically operated gate and down off the very busy main road and were met by one of the staff members. He was very helpful and showed us to our room after the car was parked.
It was a reasonably sized room with enough storage for clothes etc. The closet containg a safe for valuables / passports ,etc.
The bed is large and comfortable and the bathroom is functional and typically sized for Italy.

Breakfast was served in the main "house" portion of the complex as the weather ( cold ) was not suitable to have it served in the orange and lemon grove out in the back of the property.
We ate with the owners family ( kids from about 6-14 yrs old ) as they got ready for school .
It might sound a bit awkward , but to us it actually seem the opposite and very homey. The children always gave a friendly "Ciao " as they went out the door.
The breakfast itself is the normal Italian fare complete with pastries / eggs and bread , though the fresh squeezed orange juice from the trees out back was a tasty treat. Certainly enough to get us going in the mornings.

This place is located within a short walk to the middle of Sorrento where the shopping and restaurants are located. However , please be warned ( as other reviewers have already indicated ) , when you leave this property on foot ( or by car for that matter ) , be very careful. The car and scooter traffic is constant and scary by north american standards as the sidewalk is almost non-existant for the first few hundred meters for pedistrians. Fortunately that changes and the walking becomes more civilized after that.

The waterfront and the ferry to the Isle of Capri is about a 20 minute walk from the Roseta and we found it convenient for this purpose one of our days as we left the car home because parking could be an issue near the docks.

We also found this property well situated for touring other parts of the Campania region as we visited the ancient ruins of Paestum which lies about an hour and a half south of Sorrento. On the way back , we detoured to the Amalfi coast highway and experienced a driving adventure not for the faint of heart. However , the million dollar view points along the way were well worth the blood pressure increase. We also visited the seaside town of Amalfi while on our way back to Sorrento.

Overall: This is a comfortable and affordable location with a staff that is friendly and welcoming and is located in a place that is convenient to visiting other nearby places of interest other than just Sorrento. Generally we would recommend it but please cautious about walking to and from it via the street outside. We rated it a 3 but would be more appropriately rated a 31/2 but maybe not quite a 4.

This B&B was spectacular. I gave it a 4 instead of 5 only because it is a bit out of the way, which is what we wanted, but there wasn't much of a sidewalk for about 1/4 of the way between the hotel and the center of town. The sidewalk that exists is a bit uneven and Italian traffic is always a little scary, especially from tiny sidewalks. It's extremely quiet, the wifi was reliable for the 4 days we were there, and the breakfast was abundant and delicious. Because it was mid-November and therefore pretty cold in the morning, breakfast was served inside the owner's own kitchen. They have a long, 12-person table, and they make cappuccinos right from their own coffee maker. The free parking was a plus, since we had a scooter for part of the time we stayed. Our balcony overlooked a small garden in the back, and it was very quiet the whole time. The heat also worked (which was not the case in a couple other places we stayed), but there was an additional VERY warm blanket in our closet. We took a couple drinks from the mini-bar in the room, and the prices were quite reasonable. The owner's English was perfect and he was very helpful with giving us pointers on how to get to various sites. My husband and I will definitely be back someday.

Very nice B&B. Room large and functional. Free parking (very rare in Sorrento). Good breakfasts - in the Italian style. Owners were friendly and helpful when needed.

It is not a long walk to Sorrento, but it feels like it, being along a narrow and hectic road with uneven and intermittent pavements.

You can't really argue with GBP75 a night. If I come to the area again I will certainly aim to stay here.

Room Tip: We stayed in Vesuvio, which - blimey - had a view of Vesuvius. The view from the balcony was very pl...

Good sized room with a huge comfortable bed. All at ground level no stairs to climb. Nice proper towels and a good shower room/WC. Lovely view into the lemon tree grove of a garden. This garden was where breakfasts were served, only inside if too cold or wet. The breakfasts by the way are excellent. With more than enough fresh coffee, fresh rolls, pastries, ham (excellent freshly sliced parma), cheese and many more items. Despite being quite close to a main road the rooms are very quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful but never obtrusive. Handy for both Sorrento and St Agnello almost equidistant for both, being about a 10 minute walk. Circumvesuviana train stations a little closer than the town centres. Good high speed wifi connection, if you dont have your PC there is one available for guests to use for free. Extremely good value for money.

Cons: Some people might find the walk into Sorrento on the sometimes very narrow and at times uneven footpath a bit too much, especially if they have to do it over a few days. There may be local buses which stop nearby I never bothered to check this out. It would have been handy to have a kettle in the room. Torrential rain virtually made us prisoners in our room for one day and being able to make a hot drink would have helped.

Spent two weeks in Sorrento a place which is vastly overrated Il Roseto is not. I concur with all the positives from other reviewers. Only negative lost the WiFi connection for three days. The hosts could not be faulted.

Room Tip: Best room in the house is Vesuvio.

We stayed 2 nights at Il Rosetta

Pros:
- Clean and comfortable rooms;
- Breakfast in the beautiful gardens;
- Free WiFi

Cons:
- Location (It's a 15-20 min walk from the main square via the main road. The footpath disappears at times so it can be dangerous. Suggest you take a taxi if you have luggage and are happy to part with the cash!!

Other:
- There is a pool, at a neighbouring hotel which you can access for 8 EUR per person.
- We didn't get the same level of service that some of the other reviewers have raved about. We found them to be polite but not overly helpful or friendly.

We spent 4 night at Il Roseto and we had a wonderful time! We got a large room fit to a family of 5. Breakfast was great, especially the fresh orange juice. The staff are polite and helpful. The room was very clean and had a small kitchenette which was nice. Highly recommended!
