We visited the Sorrento area between Nov 14-16 , 2011 during our 16 day tour of Italy.
The II Roseto was choosen by us prior to leaving Canada generally based on the Tripadvisor reviews and the value.
We arrived in the Sorrento area after driving from Chianti ( about 5 hrs north ) . Unfortunately our GPS took us through a couple of the seaside town that lie between Naples and Sorrento and that experience is one I shall not soon forget !
The B and B itself is difficult to find in the first instance . We drove past it twice despite our GPS announcing we had arrived. It is poorly marked but obviously once you find it the first time , it is easy to find it each time thereafter.
In any case , we pulled through the electrically operated gate and down off the very busy main road and were met by one of the staff members. He was very helpful and showed us to our room after the car was parked.
It was a reasonably sized room with enough storage for clothes etc. The closet containg a safe for valuables / passports ,etc.
The bed is large and comfortable and the bathroom is functional and typically sized for Italy.
Breakfast was served in the main "house" portion of the complex as the weather ( cold ) was not suitable to have it served in the orange and lemon grove out in the back of the property.
We ate with the owners family ( kids from about 6-14 yrs old ) as they got ready for school .
It might sound a bit awkward , but to us it actually seem the opposite and very homey. The children always gave a friendly "Ciao " as they went out the door.
The breakfast itself is the normal Italian fare complete with pastries / eggs and bread , though the fresh squeezed orange juice from the trees out back was a tasty treat. Certainly enough to get us going in the mornings.
This place is located within a short walk to the middle of Sorrento where the shopping and restaurants are located. However , please be warned ( as other reviewers have already indicated ) , when you leave this property on foot ( or by car for that matter ) , be very careful. The car and scooter traffic is constant and scary by north american standards as the sidewalk is almost non-existant for the first few hundred meters for pedistrians. Fortunately that changes and the walking becomes more civilized after that.
The waterfront and the ferry to the Isle of Capri is about a 20 minute walk from the Roseta and we found it convenient for this purpose one of our days as we left the car home because parking could be an issue near the docks.
We also found this property well situated for touring other parts of the Campania region as we visited the ancient ruins of Paestum which lies about an hour and a half south of Sorrento. On the way back , we detoured to the Amalfi coast highway and experienced a driving adventure not for the faint of heart. However , the million dollar view points along the way were well worth the blood pressure increase. We also visited the seaside town of Amalfi while on our way back to Sorrento.
Overall: This is a comfortable and affordable location with a staff that is friendly and welcoming and is located in a place that is convenient to visiting other nearby places of interest other than just Sorrento. Generally we would recommend it but please cautious about walking to and from it via the street outside. We rated it a 3 but would be more appropriately rated a 31/2 but maybe not quite a 4.
