We are a family of four, two healthy adults in our forties, with our 15 and 11 year old daughters. Villagio Verde suited our family perfectly. We liked the more outdoor, 'rustic', friendly experience and did not want the more polished tour operator led tourist type hotel holiday.
It is up a busy hill from the centre of town, which would not be ideal for those with mobility issues, however if you are mobile the short 6-8 minute walk down to the main town is worth it for the proximity to the centre, the train station and the busses. The closest little supermarket is about 400 metres away, larger ones 6 minutes away, and once a week there is a small local market within a 2 minutes walk where you can get fresh fruit, veg and clothing bargains.

The cabins are set out in amongst orange and lemon trees and surrounded by working orange and lemon orchards behind netting. It has a real 'Italian' feel to it and is a world away from the the more polished hotel type accommodations. The cabins are small wooden huts with little veranda areas, each one has it's own 'outdoor' space. They are fabulously shaded in amongst the trees. I noted other reviews mention insects, we did have a few fruit flies (which don't bite), but nothing bothersome. This accommodation is in an orchard, you will get some insects as well as lizards and birds, and I am guessing the time of the year will dictate which pests are present. At the end of May, beginning of June we were fine. There is a bench and table supplied outside as a dining area as well as a few deck chairs for use.
Inside the cabins the self catering equipment is rather basic, but adequate (see photos). You will need to take dishcloths, washing up liquid, and t-towels for the kitchen. A couple of tupperware type boxes are useful too for fresh olives, cherries, bread or mozarella.

We were in a 'two bedroom' cabin, but in reality that is one true bedroom with wooden door and the second 'room' is a curtained off twin bed area. We knew this when we booked and it worked well for us. Perfect for a family. The beds were comfortable and the bedding clean. The bathroom with loo, sink and shower was clean and the shower was hot as needed and fairly powerful. Beds were made daily and fresh towels were replaced as needed. We requested extra pillows and they brought some straight down for us. Nothing was too much trouble. There is an air conditioning unit too. The windows have lockable shutters both sides and a fly blind in between. The main bedroom has a small free safe.

My only criticism is that the 'behind the scenes' could be a little bit more tidy, for example if we opened our bedroom window up completely and looked down (our cabin was raised up high) there were boxes of discarded tiles around the base which had obviously been dumped between the cabin and the orchard netted edges from previous work done. Although this wasn't visible unless you were being nosy and looking in areas they didn't expect you too, but I felt it was something that could very easily be rectified.

There is a small onsite restaurant which does offer breakfasts if you don't want to do your own, later in the day you can buy lunches from the poolside bar at a reasonable price. They include pizzas and toasted sandwiches and salads.

The pool area is nicely set out, the shaded 'bar / restaurant area is pleasant to sit at, the pool is nice to use and well maintained. There are rules which do ensure it is kept clean and pleasurable for everyone by ensuring feet are washed before entry to pool area, and shower before pool entry, no diving, and no shoes in pool area.. Anyone not following rules are politely reminded. There are three types of 'seats' Deckchairs are FREE, lie down wooden sun beds at a charge of 5 euros and wooden cruise style loungers (chairs with leg rests) for 8 euros.. they supply freshly washed cotton cushioned pads and a towel for this price too. There is also a shower room, toilets and launderette underneath the pool area which was invaluable to us on our last day as we had a late pick up time but were still able to use the pool all day and shower afterwards even though we no longer had access to our room.

However, the real gem of Villaggio Verde is the staff, every single one of them was smiling, helpful, and friendly. They literally saved us hundreds of euros sharing local knowledge so we could use the local bus and train systems avoiding the tour operator led organised tours. They were so friendly and approachable and went to great lengths to help plan our days out to maximise our time in Sorrento. With their help we were able to go to Pompeii and Vesuvius on the local train, visit Amalphi, Positano and a beautiful swimming cove on the local buses, and they told us about the local market too.

Our tip would be to request a cabin at the bottom, we were in number 116, the last one. The cabins near the entrance do get some noise from the passing traffic coming up the hill and the working orchards surrounding. Numbers 111-116 are all in the quieter half of the site.

If you want a real friendly Italian experience, away from the tour operators, and are visiting Sorrento to truly explore yourselves this could be a great option for you.

Room Tip: Rooms 111-116 are quieter from road noise

Staff were fantastic, super nice and very helpful.

We arrived really late the first night and Francesco was there to greet us. Some excellent restaurant recommendations and lent us an iron and umbrella!

Cabin was quite fun, sat on the patio lots didn't spend a ton of time inside. They are clean and tidied up every day. It was quite cold on our trip at night and in mornings so the heater came in handy. The bed wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world (quite hard) but after the second night I didn't notice.

Pool area was really nice and staffed for beers/food through 6pm. Parking is free and right in front of your cabin which is awesome.. it is in a really safe area which can be a concern if you leave things in your car elsewhere.

The walk into Sorrento town is super easy, takes you through a mini town which has a cafe, stores and a pub. You walk on the side of the road as it's quite narrow as all the mopeds and cars go single file. Two supermarkets within 5 minute walk and the train station is on the way.

Would definitely recommend staying here for all the reasons above. Honestly it's fantastic value, clean, safe, family friendly.

We found the Villaggio Verde to be a sanctury after our traumatic experience in Naples. The manager, Anttonete, was our guardian angel. Because the local Carribinere had phone ahead of our arrival, she greeted us warmly and said that she would help us sort things out. She upgraded our accomodation to a lovely wooden cabin where we felt very safe. It was a lovely quiet place with trees and plants around us and a nice verandah to sit on.There was a kitchen where we could cook food and feel at home.
The reception was open 24 hours so we felt supported at all times.

A beautiful oasis just a 5 minute walk from Sorrento centre. This lodge style accommodation is simple and clean with the added bonus of a peaceful pool and excellent staff who make you feel more like family then a guest. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a base to explore the centre. Do not be put off by bed and breakfast only. Lunch menu at the pool bar and close to the best restaurants in Sorrento.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The family who run this hotel are so kind and helpful.
We visited Sorrento to celebrate my 60th. What a surprise to find a bottle in an ice bucket in our room on the day of my birthday, thank you Antoinetta and family!
My story doesn't end here. On the way down to Piazza Tasso and a meal at the Museo Caruso Restaurant I tripped over a drain. Silly me! I'd broken my foot. Well the next day that's what we found out in Sorrento hospital.
We must say we were given so much help and assitance by this lovely family when they found out what had happened which made our holiday. Thank you. Yes stay here you will be looked after!
