First, location: perfect, in Napoli's center, overlooking a major piazza with lots of activity. Second, the apartment: spacious, comfortable, and nicely furnished; very high ceilings with antique painted decoration; three sets of French doors onto the balcony. Third, management and logistics: Claudia was friendly, helpful, and competent; all the arrangements were very smooth and trouble-free. The piazza crowds were sometimes noisy, but that's part of the vitality of a great city! No question that we would stay there again!
Claudia, the owner of Domus Decumana, couldn't have been more helpful. She was flexible in our meeting time (we were driving into Naples and weren't sure of our arrival time), she helped secure a driver for a trip to Feudi di San Gregorio Winery, and she provided snacks, coffee, milk, and juice so that we felt that the apartment was like home! The only downside--as others have reported--was the noise factor right outside the apartment. Bongo drums, construction noise, shouting, and general carrying-on into the night. If you are used to sleeping in a noisy apartment in NYC you'll be fine, otherwise be aware that you will need earplugs and Ambien! If Claudia could install soundproof windows that face the San Domenico Maggiore square, this would be a 5 star place. As it is, because of her welcoming Italian hospitality and attention to detail we felt like we were visiting a friend. She's terrific! Grazie mille, Claudia! PS. Don't neglect visiting the Cremeria a couple of blocks down on SpaccaNapoli. Rosario and his Dad Mario are an absolute kick and you will be able to put together a wonderful apartment snack or dinner with their help.
We rented this apartment based on other reviews, and we were not disappointed. It is quite a lovely space and our host was just amazing. She was easy to contact on the day of our arrival and she even had pastry treats waiting for us. The fridge had milk and juice stocked as well. The location was perfect for exploring the many churches and museums in the area as well as the local shops and restaurants. And the balconies did afford us a great way to watch the activity on the piazza. As others have mentioned though, there is certainly a loud and long night life on the piazza, so ear plugs are recommended.
Claudia is a gracious host and even came to tell us good-bye and call us a cab to the airport on the day of our departure. This is definitely an apartment to review if you are planning to stay in Naples.
The apparent was classic and clean , the host cloudia was a very nice lady and friendly, the driver Stefano was polite and very good driver . Tnx for everything
We stayed here as a family (son 21 daughter 18) after positive reviews. I can confirm everything good that previous visitors have written. There is air con and the apartment door would stop an Exocet so no worries re security. Claudia provided us with the burner phone and we took the cheese on the Amalfi Trip ( Air con Mercedes driven expertly) - I would recommend it highly. A fixed price taxi was ordered on our departure.
The apartment is in a square which is a micrcosm of Naples itself. There are shops and restaurants and it is a magnet for evening drinkers and diners.
Historic sites, the train station and if you fancy a 30 min walk the port are all in walking distance.
Now this is a lively part of town and can be quite rowdy. We took basic security precautions (no phones on display in back pockets etc) but I felt safe in the knowledge that the most likely suspect for a robbery would be a taxi driver . Make sure you fix a price BEFORE the ride. Another tip is that coffee taken outside is more expensive than inside at the bar.
The drinking goes on into the evening and some amateur street entertainers seem to use the square for early morning practice but don't be put off by this.
Reading all the reviews will give you the vibe and Claudia's hospitality is second to none.
The Circumvesuviana is a piece of cake to use ,cheap and easy to get to. This opens up Herculaneum (15 mins) Pompeii (30) and Sorrento (70)
If you don't mind things to rock a bit then look no further this is the place.
One of the most beautiful and energetic places of the world.Great food. Friendly people. The center of baroque Italy. Don't leave the piazza without visiting the Santa Chiara cloister destroyed in 1939 by Bombardments and completely restored to it original splendor
The apartment was in an old palazzo overlooking a vibrant square in the historic heart of Naples. There was lots of information on arrival, including the use of a mobile with useful local numbers - Claudia, taxi etc, plus some treats to eat on arrival. Claudia couldn't have been more helpful, despite getting married the day we arrived, she still managed to pop in sort out the kettle, arrange a driver and car to go around the Amalfi coast and book a taxi to take us to the airport when we left. All with a radiant smile!
The flat was clean and very comfortable, with a balcony where we could people watch the youth in the square. The electrics were a bit eccentric, but not a problem and we managed to cook spaghetti and risotto successfully in the small kitchen. The square is lively and on a couple of occasions noisy, but the wooden shutters effectively muffled the noise - and I didn't use the earplugs I'd brought.
Lots of places to eat and drink locally - spoilt for choice really. And lots to see in and around the city.
