The stairs leading to the Castle are a world heritage site and are worth seeing on its own. The castle is a marvellous structure and a great value of 2.50 Euros on a weekday. A guided tour would have been great, but the views are spectacular.

We took the funicular to get up the hill and it took a while to find the entrance of the first wall around the castle as it was not clearly marked. When we walk through the port we saw the castle and wanted to walk to it but did not realize see the ticket office (again it was not marked clearly) but one person of the staff pointed us to the right direction. After getting the ticket is was still a climb up to get to the top of the castle. When we were on the top, the view over Naples is astounding. It was worth the climb up to the top. Specially if the weather is good you can see the Vesuvius behind Naples. The castle it self has been maintained very well and it is very clean and neatly. Only the toilets can be improved.

The museum in the castle is in my opinion not worth the visit, but it depends if you like modern art.

So this is a castle however you pay more to see the view. There is a slight brief history provided on some information boards but it’s all about the view. 360 degrees of Naples. On a clear day you can see the inter land as well as the islands in the gulf of Naples.
A quick note - It’s mainly all up hill with a few steps at the top to get on the castle wall, so quite accessible and even if you don’t get up to the top you still get an excellent view as you make you way up to the castle.

Tried to visit twice, to no avail. First attempt, I followed the hours posted on the website, only to find that it had closed early. I tried again a day later mid-afternoon, and when I walked through the gate, I was shooed out by an attendant who then closed the gates and locked them. The view from the road outside the castle is fabulous, so I can only conclude that those inside are even more so, but I'll never know. I can't really recommend that one visit a place if that place is so unreliable about its opening hours.
