“Hotel Best Roma, Roma Italy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 December 2011

We really enjoy staying at this lovely hotel. The breakfast was yummy, it had a wide variety of items to choose from and a cozy dining room to eat in. The rooms are small but very nice. The hotel staff was very helpful in maping out local attractions, guiding us which subway and buses to use. The hotel is within walking distance to bus stops, subway entrances, and Terimini (City Center) the main railway station for Rome. It's very close to most major tourist attractions which makes it an ideal location. There is a market within a 1/2 blocks to buy wine, snacks, water or whatever you need. A few nice resturants within a 1/2 block that are resonable priced. Do visit the gellato factory just past the market on the opposite side of street for a delicious treat you will really enjoy!! I recommed this hotel and would stay there again if I ever return to Rome.

Nice rooms, very clean, but small. Of the seven hotels we stayed in during our tour of Italy, this is the only one where we ended up going to the local grocery store to buy our breakfast. No toast (or toaster), no fresh fruit, only hard boiled eggs.... In other words, breakfast sucked. Also, hotel is in a seedy area. We did not feel safe walking in the area after dark. Also, they charge for Internet and WiFi. Located on a side of the street where taxis will not pick you up or drop you off. You have to cross the street with your luggage and over the streetcar tracks to get to your hotel. Don't use hotel's limo service if you have more than three average sized bags because you'll end up with it on your lap.

We stayed at Best Roma in October and have to say that it was wonderful. The location was ideal for walking to the main sites and with easy access to the Metro and train station and although other reviews had made us wary of the neighbourhood, we found it to be nothing but ideal. The hotel itself and our room were very well presented and breakfast was to a high standard. The best thing about staying at this hotel though was undoubtedly the staff who were clearly hard working, always pleasant and very helpful to us in getting around Rome and fully enjoying our holiday. We would most definitely stay here again and recommend it without hesitation.

We stayed in this small and friendly hotel for 4 days in October. On arrival we received a warm welcome, and throughout our stay found all the staff to be courteous, friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautifully presented and the staff went out of their way to help us.
We felt the location was convenient to access many of the tourist attractions, though the area was a little run down and quite noisy, to the point where we did not use their roof terrace, but to be fair, found the whole of Rome noisy. The room we had was the smallest I have ever stayed in, and definitely a lot smaller than any I saw in photographs, but spotlessly clean and nicely furnished., though the complimentary bathrobe and slippers that were advertised never materialised. We found several nice and reasonably priced restaurants just a few minutes walk away. If we were to return to Rome, we would definitely book into this hotel again. Thank you for a lovely break.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of hotel, which will definitely be quieter. Possibly ask for a twin bed...

We stayed at Best Roma hotel in Rome during the start of june and it was really good. The hotel was fantastic, small and nice. The room was quite large with a good bathroom and a desk. A good thing was that there was aircondition in the room that you could control your self. However we got a room that faced the inner garden of the building so we was lucky and didn't hear the street outside the hotel but there was smoking allowed on in the garden/backyard so remember to shut your window if you leave the room unless you want it to smell smoke.
The breakfast was ok, plastic cups aren't a plus but the food was good.

Another downside with the hotel is that there are not included free internet access on the hotel, when we asked to use the internet we could pay 8 euros for 3 hours and that's a bit old fashioned.

The overall grade was good and we would definitely stay at this hotel again if we go to rome.

I stayed in the hotel for 4 nights during the past week. I had researched this extensively using TA and chose the hotel on that basis; I was not disappointed. The neighbourhood is not great but certainly not as bad as some others have indicated. I think it best to stay on Via Principe Amedeo and Via di Porta Maggiore (the tram route). Allow for 20 minutes to walk from Termini but one can ride the Tram (No. 5 or No. 14) or the 105 Bus. They all leave from the front corner of the Termini station.

I will add USEFUL TIPs as I write the review.

The young man at the reception desk was extremely pleasant and helpful. He provided me with a street map and wrote additional transport information on it. He brought our baggage to the room.

The room was small, and friends accompanying us got an even smaller room, but I had expected that from the reviews. The more important thing was the fact that the room was clean and in every regard functional. In fact the whole place was clean as the hotel has been completely refurbished.

Breakfast was basic (cereals; bread rolls; croissants and ham/cheese) but tasty. The problem once again was the rather cramped dining facility. Most people chose to remain inside even though the weather was exceptional for October.

There is a wi-fi but it did not work in my bedroom. It cost about 6 or 7 Euro for 3 hours.

Transport tickets can be purchased at the news stand at Piazza di Porta Maggiore - out of hotel and turn left; walk less than 5 minutes and it is on the same side as hotel.

I had never been in Rome before and was not really prepared for the 'transport'. Sardines in a tin spring to mind. Little wonder there is a problem with pick-pockets. There are so many people allowed on buses; metro and trams that it is a pick-pockets paradise. I caught a guy 'moving in' on me on the No. 3 bus. I promptly threw him off the bus at the next stop - NOT recommended for most people. A couple with us were victims on the same bus but the thief only got the hotel room pass which he discarded on the floor of the bus. The metro from Manzoni station is just as bad. Of course we were travelling during the rush-hour (perhaps rush-hours is more apt in Rome as it always seems busy) but anywhere near the centre or tourist sites makes for quite a challenge. It really must be a nightmare if one has young children.

A visit to Trastevere is recommended and the No. 3 bus leaving from Piazza di Porta Maggiore (out of hotel and a five minute walk to the left) goes there. We also used the same bus to go to the Colosseum.

We used the tram from Manzoni to the Vatican. That is out of hotel and turn right. Walk to the next major junction and turn left. The station is down this road. Allow around 10 minutes for this walk. If going to St. Peters then get off at Ottaviano. If going to the Vatican museums then stay until the next stop and get off there. If planning on both i recommend one goes to the Vatican Museum FIRST. When in the Sistine chapel look for the door on the right as you walk down it. This is exclusively for TOUR GROUPS but hook up with a group and walk out through that door. The exit for individuals leaving the Chapel is actually on the left and this will bring you back into the Museum complex. If you leave with a tour group you will be in St. Peters within a few minutes. This will save you 45-60 minutes as the other route takes you out on to the public street leaving you o walk to St. Peters and join the security queue. Incidentally we did not have tickets for the museum so had to queue. We arrived there at just after 9am and had to queue for 40 minutes (even in Oct). The other important issue is BACKPACKS. If you have a backpack you will likely have to leave it in security after you enter. No big deal but it will mean tracking back from the Sistine Chapel to recover it. This will mean no 'short cut' to St. Peters for you.

The best restaurant from the hotel was up the street to the right and then the main street to the right (I think it was Manzoni) and the restaurant is on the right. This is 5 minutes from hotel and is popular. Incidentally no credit cards accepted.

The best supermarket is out of hotel and up the street to the right. It is on the other side of the street at the bus/tram stop just on the corner of the first major junction. It is less than 5 minutes walk.

I would stay again at this Hotel but it certainly does not have the facilities to merit a 4* rating.

I booked this hotel Months in advance, as soon as I arrived in Rome, the guy at the desk booked me at another hotel saying the hotel electricity was down, though I could see other guests arriving to their rooms, being jet-lagged I let him put me in a taxi to another hotel a smelly no-air single-bed no mini-frige room with staffed with people that treated me like a homeless person. No slippers, no robe, no lux room as promise no bathtub. I had trip insurance also and CheapO.com wouldn't help me!

Room Tip: Terrible scary location Bait & switch scam hotel, worst area in Rome! check location in any guid...
