I'm glad I picked the iQ Roma to stay in and managed to get a good room only rate through Thomas Cook hotels and flights with Ryan Air. We took the Terra Vision bus from the airport to the Termini Station for 8 Euros each return. The hotel is only about 500m from the Termini but somehow we managed to get a little lost and ended up walking for ages despite asking people for directions and having a little map, so if you are going to the hotel via the station then print out a detailed map before you go :-)
The check in was smooth and quick and our room was ready immediately even though we were a few hours before the official check in time.
We had room 203 on the 2nd floor and the street noise was a little annoying at night when we had the doors / windows open but when they were closed it was fine.
The air con kept the room nice and cool when the window / doors were shut.
The room had a shower in the bathroom which was nice.
The room and the hotel was clean.
The only TV channel in English was CNN with some shows on MTV in English too but that wasn't a problem.
The breakfast was 10 euros each and was OK - nothing fabulous but good enough.
The water from the vending machines was 70 cents for a 500ml bottle which isn't exactly expensive but if you just pop to the DeSpar shop on Nationale (just round the corner) they sold 2litre bottles of water from the shelf for 45 cents (it was more from the fridge). The rooms in the hotel also had a mini fridge to keep drinks cool.
The 5th floor had an outside area with seats and tables which was nice and peaceful to sit and relax.
The location is good and we walked to the Colosseum in about 15 minutes although the walk to the Vatican was longer.
We got a Taxi back from the Vatican to the centre of Rome and a word of advice - they are prone to saying you gave less money than you did - our guide at the Vatican told us this and so when we handed over a 50 Euro bill for the 18 Euro fare we said that's a 50 but the driver still put that on his lap, held out a 10 Euro bill and said another 8 was needed.
If I went back to Rome I would certainly look at staying in the iQ Roma again.
