“Sensational location - a very good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2012

Hotel President was great. First the location: walking distance from the Colosseum and next to (5 meters) Manzoni metro station (direct link to the Vatican). The room: decent size with comfortable (memory foam) beds and really nice pillows (they even have a pillow menu which you can consult). Toilets are new and quite spacious. Also, there are large wardrobe with plenty of hanging space. TV is ok (I bet you will not watch a single minute of it - it's too many beautiful things outside to just stay in).
I didn't visit the restaurant - but I can tell that the services overall were great.

Room Tip: If you have a sensibility for sounds during sleep - ask for a room further away from the elevators.

Dear NeaZapada,
thank you for spending some of your time to write a review about your stay at our hotel. We have very much appreciated that you have mentioned the possibility to consult our pillow menu, which we believe is an important add-on but that, most of the times, seems not to be taken in account as it should.
Thanking you once again we are looking forward to see you soon.
Kind regards.

We got this hotel for €109 for two nights via Compare-Hotels.co (comparison site) which we felt was an incredible deal for a 4* Hotel.

The hotel is 10 seconds from Manzioni station (2 stops on the red line to Termini) and a 5 minute walk to the Colloseum.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were not up to much but were typical of Italian breakfasts since the 1950s - ham, eggs and a few mini sausages with pastries and toast available.

The room, was actually huge and luxurious, all the mod cons, really fast and powerful shower, free wifi and very clean room.

We loved it and I'm baffled as to the 400 ranking on Tripadvisor. Had I paid over €200 I would have less praise but for €109 for 2 nights 2 people = bargain.

Room Tip: We were allocated a great room and booked via Compare-Hotels.co

Stayed at 'The President' this week with my husband to celebrate my birthday in Rome. From arrival to departure the staff were most courteous and helpful. Room on the 4th floor overlooking courtyard was fantastic, spacious and spotlessly clean every day. Only ate breakfast in the hotel which was continental but plenty of choice.
Reception staff helped plan every day ensuring we saw what we wanted in the best way - travel and organised trips etc. We both love 'fish' and the restaurant recommended turned out to be 'Rome's best kept secret' - You will find 'Le Virtu in Tavola' by turning right from hotel entrance and then first right 100 m down the road - We have travelled plenty and always look for a fish restaurant, this has to be the best yet! Ended up going back on our last night as well...
Would like to say a 'huge' thankyou to the staff of the President for making my birthday a truly memorable break

Room Tip: Do your research - email in advance requesting a quiet room

our visit on 17-21 November 2011 was a really pleasant one. The location is spectacular, mwtro station just outside it, if u turn left on leaving the building and take the next street left again and go 7-10 minutes straight ahead, u will find yourself under Colloseum. But anywhere u go u will find something that will make your jaw drop wide open!the city has so much to offer!
the hotel itself is what u pay for- for brealfast u get cold meat and cheese, jams juice tea and coffee(this i would not recommend as was dreadful, but u can go to numerous cafes to get a yummy one)...fruit and cereal, all very basic but enougt to get you going-. the hotel bar is very simple, but much cheaper than drinking out if anyone cares about the costs. Also important to mention that u pay extra for sitting down drinking or eating even in a shop, so we saw many people opening a bottle of wine on some stairs, near cathedrals or other monuments...which was rather weird for us, but when we got our first 'bill' as they call it for a cake and some drinks we understood- some people do mind paying extra 4e.
All in all the location was great, having metro just 3 steps away was a huge bonus and if u want to visit more tahn 2 places, and u r a regular tourist, its much cheaper with ROMAPASS.
the place we ate in Merulana Cafe - superb food served till really late, even past 1am!!!Via Merulana 138 Roma adiacenta piazza San Giovani in Laterano info@merulana.it. I still have their card:)

Must agree with the recent reviews - the Hotel President was great in every way. Even the "Leader of the Opposition" who is at times somewhat fanatical about cleanliness gave it a white-gloved thumbs up.
First the room: Decent size with comfortable, king-size bed. Large wardrobe with plenty of hanging space. Good size bathroom with bathtub and bidet. Desk, armchair and of course air-con to keep us warm during our Christmas stay.
Service: Extraordinary. We checked in at just after 8:00 a.m. and were admitted to our room on the 5th "piano". (Gotta love that language!) And it just got better. At our first breakfast we were staring querulously at the all-in-one coffee dispenser when one of the white coats approached, "Cappuccino, signora e signore?" We gratefully refused and wondered wether a couple of espressos might be possible. "Si, certo." Within a minute 2 cups of delightful Italian espresso appeared on our table. Then a second, and a third. Thereafter, each morning as we entered the restaurant for our ante-meridial repast, the ever delightful Fabrizio would, without being asked, deliver two espressos to our table. And, noting that we had finished our meal would return with two more. Made us feel special.
Location: Ideal. As others have noted it's just a ten or fifteen minute walk to the Colosseum - or for the ambulatorily challenged a 2 minute train ride on the Metro. And once you reach the Colosseum time doesn't matter. You lose yourself in the wonder of the place. Cross the road and follow the Via Dei Fori Imperiali along side the Foro Romano toward the Piazza Del Campidoglio. Priceless and timeless. And still there's more. Exit the Hotel and turn left. Turn left again into Via Manzoni. About three doors down you'll come to an amazing "alimentari" or deli'. This is the best place in Rome. Dive in and marvel at the selection of "fromagi" and salami. Try the pitted, marinated green olives and the sun-dried tomatoes. And before leaving grab a bottle of chianti - about 6 Euros. Sensational. But there's more! Exit the hotel and turn right. About 50 metres up the road you'll come to a little wine shop. Go in and talk to the old guy who runs the place. Ask him to recommend a bottle of "vino rosso" or "chianti". He'll talk to you enthusiastically and point out various bottles. You won't understand a word he says but you'll know exactly what he means and you'll leave with a bottle of Chianti classico for about 8 Euros. Just a a wonderful experience. Once you are suitably provisioned, scurry back to the hotel, go to the bar and press the call button. Within moment a charming and helpful waiter will appear. Ask if you might borrow a couple of wine glasses and perhaps a plate or two to take back to your room. Of course, this will be no trouble at all and you'll probably be offered knives, forks etc. They are just nice people.
So, yes, try the Hotel President. We'll certainly be back.

Room Tip: Level 5 at the back overlooking the courtyard was great. No street noise

I was there in September 2011. Rated 4 stars.
Good location, 2 metro stops from Termini ( I wanted to avoid this area), just near the Manzoni station, and a 15 minutes walk to the Colosseum.
The staff is friendly and speak English very well. They gave us free maps and directions about what to visit.
We asked in advance for a quiet room, that is towards an inner courtyard with trees.
The room is very nice, and the bathroom even better.
It has free Wi-Fi, but pay attention to the plug, it's a small one.
Breakfast is served in a beautiful restaurant and there are a lot of choices.
If you book in advance you can catch a special offer.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room ( towards the inner courtyard) but not to close to the elevator or to the "...

This is great hotel, good location, ideally located within 20 feet from a Metro station. It is also less than 40 minutes walk from most attraction and ones further can be accessed easily via the Metro. Breakfast is excellent, especially after 7 am when hot breakfast is also available. There are many small but noticeable perks too such as free Wi-Fi almost everywhere in the hotel, hot tea and coffee at reception at all times, TV in room with English news channels, windows that open and an ample wardrobe in room.
The staff are very helpful and well informed with local knowledge, even room service and housekeeping spoke English adequately and were very helpful.
Two issues to note though; there is no temperature control in the room. This is apparently centrally controlled so our room was round 25 degrees Celsius most day time dropping only slightly over night. Secondly, the shower cubicle is nonexistent, so the water run across about 30-40% of the toilet floor is one is not careful.
I cannot fault anything else as this is otherwise a superb hotel and will stay there if the price is right again.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room away from the lift as it would be a bit quieter and possibly on the top floor...

Dear use_online,
Your review is very nice and we wish to thank you for the nice words spent. We also would like to thank you for your comments about the problem you have met regarding the room temperature.
Temperature can be set individually in every room using the provided thermostat.
Being computerized the thermostat may in some cases get stuck if used improperly.
In this case all you have to do is ask for help to our reception staff or to our maintainance team who can immediately set it back to the normal position and it will again start working properly. Said that we would like to apologize if this caused you uncomfort.
We wish also to say that all our guests advises and remarks are important in order to improve all our services hence we thank you once more.
We are looking forward to have the pleasure to serve you in a next future.
Kind regards.
