“Great Stay, Great People, Great City!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2012

Our stay at the Deko Hotel was outstanding! From the pre-arranged pick-up at the airport (price comparable / better / safer than a taxi) that Deko set up, arrival & greeting by Marco that evening, daily breakfast & conversation with Serena, the unparalleled service provided, to our departure, was all top-notch! This is a boutique hotel, so please keep that in mind when choosing to stay here. That said, the quality & intimacy of service provided far exceeded any hotel I have stayed at (traveled to over 45 countries & stayed in numerous hotels, B&B, etc. over the past 15 yrs). Staying at the Deko was more like staying with good friends than in a nondescript or chain hotel. Both Marco & Serena know Rome very well & can provide suggestions for just about anything you have in mind. This also includes numerous suggestions for restaurants, clubs, sights, etc. that only locals or those “in-the-know” might have info on. As for the hotel & rooms, again, very nice. The rooms vary in size, but all are well equipped with basic essentials, very clean, & a nice place to lay your head after a long day of seeing the sights. More than likely, Marco or Serena (or both) will be there when you return to ask how the day went & offer up a nice glass of wine, espresso/cappuccino, or juice to relax with. The location of the hotel is very easy to navigate the city from. There is a police station located 10 meters down the street, and the U.S. Embassy is located across the street in the other direction (again, providing for a very secure environment with police & Embassy guard presence). There is also a taxi stand about a 1 minute walk up the street. If you feel like going by foot, most sights are within a 15-30 minute stroll / walk, which also provides you the ability to explore all the side streets & neighborhoods you would not see if traveling by taxi or metro. All in all, this is a great place to stay and will just further enhance your experience while in Rome. I would definitely recommend to anyone and would stay here again!

Room Tip: The rooms vary in size. From a "studio" to that of a larger room for a family. All rooms...

I've stayed all over the world, and while you won't confuse the Deko with a Ritz or a Mandarin Oriental, I felt more comfortable at the Deko than at some of those properties. Unless you need an in-hotel restaurant or spa for your Rome visit, you'd really be crazy not to stay here. The room was large, comfortable, well-appointed with everything you'd need (satellite tv, safe, a/c, FREE minibar, internet...) the bathroom was large, with new sinks, shower, toielt, bidet; the decoration was hip yet welcoming; the location ideal; and finally Marco and Serena treat you like lifelong friends. They know the city, and go out of their way to help you find whatever it is you're looking to do in it.

This place is a bargain right now, and eventually it will cost more. It has to, because the service provided is just too valuable. I just hope when that day comes, nothing else changes. Because it's perfect.

The hotel owners went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful mini break in Rome providing us with recommendations for bars, cafes and restaurants. The hotel rooms were very clean, comfortable and modern. The breakfast was fresh, wholesome and tasty. The location was fantastic safe and central to shopping and sightseeing.

The best and warmest experience we have ever had in a hotel. As everyone mentioned in their reviews, this is a personalized service that exceeds anyone's expectations. My expectations were high, and still were exceeded. This is not about the room, or facilities, which are perfect, modern and impecable, instead it is about the way they make you feel while in Rome. Just imagine you are visiting friends that happen to be the sweetest people in the world, are helpful, thoughtful and have excelent taste. We tried almost all the restaurants they recommended and all were outstanding, and believe me, we are very critical when it comes to judging a meal. They receive you with a smile everyday, not matter how tired they might be, which by the way, feels real and genuine. They do anything to help, anything.
An example: we called one afternoon because we were a little lost looking for a pub Marco recommended and needed some help, he immediatelly guided us to the right way and since we were close to another good restaurant he knew, made reservations for us and called me back on my US cell phone to confirm, the restaurant was incredible.
They usually have breakfast from 8am to 11am, but since our taxi was picking us up at 8 am, Serena came earlier to make sure we ate something before we left, then she walked us down just like she would their friends.
Oh, for Valentines, they left us a bottle of Proseco and and a card.
Again, thank you Serena and Marco, we had a lovely stay.
We will be back...

We just concluded a week in Rome at Deko Rome and it was wonderful. Keep in mind, this is not a typical hotel. It is just 6 rooms, but feels like you are staying with friends. Marco and Serena are so helpful and really care about your enjoyment of Rome. If you are up for something different, I hily recommend staying at Deko Rome.

It is hard to know where to begin as there are so many fantastic things to say about Deko Rome. The best part is the people – Marco and Serena are the most amazing hosts! They are warm and incredibly helpful and make the Roman experience something really special. We were there last week (Feb 2012) for four nights and enjoyed every single moment. Marco had arranged a taxi pick up from the airport for us and, upon arrival, he greeted us with a smile and a glass of wine! He proceeded to go through a map of Rome with us, in detail, not simply highlighting the tourist attractions (which we did want to visit) but specific streets and areas of interest. He also gave us lots of information about restaurants and bars and either he or Serena would ask us each day where we would like to eat that night and make a reservation. All the restaurants were amazing, serving truly Roman food. We even went to a small bakery in Campo di Fiori one afternoon (Forno) just because Marco had recommended it.
Each day, when we returned from our sightseeing, Marco would welcome us with a glass of wine or Prosecco and ask us about our day. He and Serena are passionate about their city and about what they do and they genuinely want to make your stay as personal and enjoyable as it can be.
Deko Rome is in a great location. There is a taxi rank two minutes walk away, the metro (Barberini) is about 10 minutes walk, and very handy for getting to the further sites, such as the Colosseum and Vatican. There are some excellent restaurants close by (top tip – take Marco and Serena’s advice regarding where to eat!) and we walked almost everywhere, day and night. Our room was contemporary and stylish and immaculately clean. And nice and quiet at night, although we would usually return late after several glasses of wine and Amaretto!
A number of other visitors have mentioned the details that make Deko Rome stand out – free WiFi, free mini bar, plentiful continental breakfast (served 8-11am, although they are completely flexible!). If you are looking for a large corporate hotel with a spa, pool, concierge and anonymous service, then Deko Rome is not for you. If you want to experience genuine, warm Roman hospitality which will ensure you experience the best of Rome, then you will not find anywhere better than Deko Rome! Grazie mille Marco and Serena! We will return one day!

I thought I posted a review last Fall, after we returned from our Italy trip, but checking my contributions and skimming past reviews, it appears I forgot! That is a travesty!

We reserved our week's stay in Rome at Deko Rome before they ever opened their doors. I had scoured Trip Advisor for reviews of "guest houses" and B&Bs, because I've had good luck doing that before. When following up on a recommendation for a nearby B&B (that was already booked for our week), they gave me the names of several other accommodations, including Deko Rome. The response that came back from Marco was brimming with anticipation about their planned opening, and after a couple short email exchanges through which he answered all our questions, we booked a full week for Sept 9-16.

If you've read all the glowing recommendations here, you are aware that Deko Rome is clearly a successful enterprise for Marco and his charming wife, Serena. I have never felt so "at home" or so well taken care of at any hotel or guesthouse anywhere in the world. Every transportation question, directions, restaurant or shopping recommendations, or even silly problems with the way the toilet seat fit in the bathroom, were answered with confidence and smiles and the attitude that if you need this, it will be done!

The quiet location was delightful...the AC invaluable (September was SO hot!) and the complimentary mini-bar refrigerator was fantastic. One night, we just wanted to chill out and eat a sandwich in the "cafe" area. They got us plates, glasses, silverware and napkins to use. (We'd picked up supplies a couple doors down) We were careful to clean up after ourselves as the place was ALWAYS spotless. The evening wine & chats with Marco, Serena and other guests provided some lovely memories. Oh yes, and we also appreciated the free wifi.

Clearly, if we ever have the opportunity to visit Rome again, Marco will be our first contact. It would be like staying with family.
