Just returned from 3 nights at the Hotel Savoy. Ideally located a short stroll from The Spanish Steps and an even shorter stroll from the open top first bus stop (Ciao Roma). Hotel was missing a bit of English comfort i.e. tea/coffee making facilities, however, as a base it was just fine with a lovely rooftop bar and great views over the city. Breakfast was very good, a great stay

I just returned from a European trip. Our first night in Rome we stayed at The Savoy. The hotel is located a short walk away from the fashion district of Rome, which for we fashionista's is a great location. We also arrived at 11 am and check-in time was 3 pm, however the hotel was not full so we were granted our room early. The price of the hotel included breakfast which had a wide variety of items to choose from.
The room was smaller than we had anticipated but clean.
There is a rooftop bar that overlooks the city. It's lovely on a clear night. We could have sat up there for hours, but the jet lag finally caught up with us.
I'd say this hotel is a nice place for a night or two and you won't break the bank.

Stayed a few nights and thoroughly enjoyed, the breakfast was very extensive and good, the rooms were standard for European hotels, small but comfortable. A few blocks up the Via Veneto from the metro, nice stroll, especially at night. A good central location to walk to almost anything the city has to offer.

Unfortunately our Rome trip did not work out the way we had planned. Absolutely no fault of the hotel on 13 hour flight delay, but after going to bed at 5AM, the last thing we wanted was the power going on and off throughout the night. Unfortunately we needed to charge our camera battery every night, which meant we needed to keep the power on at night. However, it meant every time the power went out and then back up again, the TV would automatically turn itself on and we'd wake up 5+ times a night to bright lights that directly looked at us (not the nicest way to wake up). This happened for 3 nights, and on the third night there was no water in the hotel. We had to wash our face with bottled water, which the concierge didn't even offer. It really wouldn't have been a problem, but since there was no water, any time anybody in the building tried to turn the tab on it'd make awful loud drill like noise in the piping and you could not get any sleep. We couldn't fall asleep until 4AM or so when people packed up and left for other hotels or have all fallen asleep. The next day, there was a fire in the kitchen, I suppose and we were awaken by a fire alarm at 4AM that did not stop for a very long time.

Unfortunately, we only got 2-3 hours a sleep a night for most part and the hotel did not offer us an upgrade nor were they very apologetic. Final draw was when we came to get some naps (after running on very few hours of sleep for 5 days) in the afternoon and they turned the power off. It turns out they had turned the power off to fix all the problem but decided not to inform any of us and I ended up having to shower in ice cold water only after the power came back on. This was the point where we demanded either a refund or some sort of anything, really. Finally they offered us an upgrade and a beer on their rooftop patio.

We had one good night's sleep before we left Rome and I wish our experience was better. The location is great, but unfortunately it was a terrible experience for us.

Dear Sir,

I still regret for the bad experience you had during your stay in our Hotel last year.
Now, could you kindly tell us how come that you post this review almost one year later your travel dates?? It has been quite shoking for us reading something we misunderstood it has happened now, June 2012, while the elecricity inconvenience, which was actually really serious and caused other reviews from travellers at those times, had happened in JULY 2011!!

Moreover it was such a big black out that of course it was not 'normality' but obviously unusual and abnormal.

Please kindly accept my couriosity about this late post,
best regards

The Hotel Manager
