“Nice central hotel in Rome”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

My wife and I stayed here for a total of 5 nights. The first 2 nights we had a room on the 1st floor which was not nice. It was loud from the street below and the walls were paper thin!! We could hear the people in the next room talking and watching tv.

We left the hotel for an overnight stay in Naples and on our final 3 nights we were on the 5th floor. This was a great stay. The room was great, the walls appeared to have better insulation from the noise of other rooms and being heighet the noise from thr street was no problem.

The breakfast was great, plenty of choice for all tastes!

Overall our stay was great. The closeness to the main strain station and metro was great and it is within easy walking distance to most of the sights.

We would stay again, it is great value for money and a great position.

Made a last minute booking and were pleased with our choice.
Only a 5 minute walk from the Termini and hence the metro station if you chose to use it. The room itself was of a good standard and the bathroom was excellent.
Slightly disappointed with the service and attention from the concierge and reception staff. They seemed rather uninterested to help and you almost had to wave at them to get their attention. The electrics blew in the room (dodgy tv socket connection), but this was fixed after an hour or so.

Room Tip: Had a room facing inside the courtyard, and it was nice and quiet!

It was hard to decide whether to give an average or poor rating to this property. But really, its problems are not of the hotel, but from the neighborhood. It is basically a stone's throw from the main train station, a notoriously terrible part of town (I was booked as part of a group, so had no choice). But - the actually hotel was quite pleasant. Comfortable room, nice lobby and breakfast, good internet service. The only complaint was that the keys to the doors didn't work very well - it was always a battle to get in the room and it seemed that the cleaning staff never actually pulled the door shut enough to lock it. If the hotel was in a different part of town, I'd recommend it - but basically I'd just never say to stay in that area even for the Ritz!

Some of the other reviews have mentioned 'old dated decor' and the location being noisy with the windows open. Fact No 1. Rome is Noisy. If you want to be in the center and sleep with the window open, do not be surprised if you can hear life pulsing under the building. This hotel is 2 minutes from Termini train station, with every sidewalk having a ramp down and ramp up until you get into the station. It is 20 mins walk from the Colosseum and about the same to the Trevi fountain. So conveniently located in 'central Rome' is a good description. If you want peace and quiet. Go to the countryside of Umbria or Tuscany.

Then about decor. Like the other hotels owned by this family, (Mediterraneo/Atlantico etc opposite), it is done in the Art Deco style. Hotels only began to be created at the end of the 18th century beginning of the 19th century in Italy. Before this, people on the 'Grand Tour' were mostly nobles, who stayed with friends or family in Italy in Villas and Palaces. There is a guide book in Italian that has a list of all 'historic' locations that are over 100 years old. For example, the Cafe Greco is in it. This hotel is in it too. Having said that, this well maintained, service is excellent. High thread count sheets. 'Standard' buffet breakfast. I look forward to going back.

Hope this helps.

The service was freindly and prompt. We requested two connecting rooms and got it. Breakfast was ok, but the dining room was very crowded.

Unless Italy has a different star rating, this is a 2 star, not 4 star hotel. It is very close to the Termini station. Room decor is worn and dated, mattress is hard as a rock, air conditioning non-existent and with the windows open rather noisy. On the plus side it does include breakfast, and very clean. My email inquiry a couple of weeks prior to the trip went unanswered. At the end of the day, however, how much time do you spend in a hotel room while in Rome? It was ok for 3 days, but if I went back to Rome I'd find a different hotel.
