“Excellent location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2012

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in January 2012. We had a wonderful time. The staff were incredibly attentive from organizing a private transfer, unpacking our bags when we arrived and giving us excellent information and advice on things to visit to welcoming us back kindly every time we returned. The hotel is in a fantastic location close to the Spanish steps and you can walk everywhere from here. Some said the Vatican and Colloseum were too far to walk but we thought it was fine and there’s plenty to see and do on the way. Our room was small but lovely and the turndown service made us feel very cosy at night. Bathroom was big and had everything you’d expect from a 5 star hotel. The robes were lovely. We had dinner in the Michelin starred restaurant on the seventh floor one night and although expensive the food was absolutely delicious with impeccable service. Even if you do not eat here, I would recommend having a drink on the terrace of the restaurant in order to enjoy the beautiful view over the whole city. Breathtaking. We never had breakfast as it seemed quite expensive and we preferred to eat out nearby but if it was as good as our evening meal, I’m sure it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We loved the old-world, family-owned nature of the Splendide Royal. Our suite was very comfortable, private and silent with a large terrace. The front desk and housekeeping staffs are outstanding, very responsive. The food and service from Room Service were so delicious and prompt it was almost as though they were standing outside our door. We had dinner twice at Mirabelle -- it is elegant, dressy and sparkling. The food is superb and the view of St. Peter's and the City at night is like a fairy tale.

Until the Four Seasons opens a hotel in Rome, we will call the Splendide Royal home.

When going to Rome you need a comfortable place to stay. The Splendide is an old fashioned hotel just a few steps away from the Spanish steps. The room was okay, only the bathroom was a little outdated and small. The breakfast room was nothing special but the food was allright.
Very friendly and attentive staff.

Lovely old fashioned hotel on the quiet side street but still only few minuts walk from the Spanish steps. Staff at the front desk was very helpful and new everything we asked. We got some good recommendations for eating out. The first night we went to the hotel restaurant Mirabelle. What a great experience, very expensive though. Their "White truffel menu" was simply fantastic and the wines recommended by sommelier also excellent. The view over the roofs to St Peter's Basilica was stunning. We had drinks on the balkony looking over the Villa Borghese gardens, very nice.

Our spacious room was on the 1st floor but still very quiet, bed comfortable and the bathroom guite big with enough amenities. The bidé was not very succesfully placed, you couldn't open the door completely.

The only minus comes for the concierge when we were asking some opera tickets quite a long time in advance. First we didn't get any answer for the e-mail, then when asking again she said that they don't have the schedule until the end of the month, which was less than 2 weeks before our arrival. Well, the opera has the schedule for the whole year I suppose and by that time everything was of course sold out. Never the mind we got the tickets for a opera concert which was also nice.

Hotel is located slightly away from the action but I didn't mind as I stayed there during a busy touristy period and am happy to be away from the crowd at the end of the day. Everywhere is within walking distance though; about 10-15 minutes from most places. Rome is a walking city anyway.

Room size is fine for a city. I travelled with 4 luggages and didn't feel squeezy at all. Toilet was new, spacious and clean despite the older room interior so that was nice. Staff helped with what I wanted.

How can I forget the Royal Splendid in Rome, once I was there there was the earthquake in L'Aquila, I remember we woke up , thinking we were sleeping in a water massage bed....... We stayed there twice. Sometimes you can find affordable prices for the quality and standard offered, it is at the top of Via Veneto, near the park of Villa Borghese, it is a ten minute walk from the tube.. it is not in via Veneto , so it is quieter especially at night because it is in the back. The furniture are very accurate, although rooms are not always so spacious unless you upgrade to a superior or better a suite or junior suite.. The staff is very kind and professional, our waitress was really taking care of our needs and we also remarked this when we left our final comments on the hotel... I would surely recommend this hotel for the quality/price offered, you can find good prices... but often breakfast is not included and is quite expensive... The location is central , close to Via Veneto and the wonderful park of Villa Borghese, we visited some very intesting exhibits there... Of course if you want to stay more central, you can opt for similar hotels near Piazza di Spagna or (my favourite) Hotel Raphael which is near Navona... which in my opinion are in the heart of Rome... Splendid Royal is not a very big hotel, it is smaller than other 5 stars hotel in Via Veneto but has a very nice atmosphere...

First time staying at the Splendide Royal. We travel through Rome 5-6 times a year and always change locations for variety within Rome and the new restaurants you find in the area. Rooms are ample in size and decorated nicely. The staff must be commended as they cannot help you enough. Great suggestions for local restuarants were a big help and all suggestions were top notch. Parioli (the neigbourhood) is a perfect location as it takes you away from the pressure of the crowds but is easily accessible to all the central tourist attactions. It is at the very top of the Via Veneto an elegant location in central Rome.
