“Convenience in Rome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2012

My wife and I have stayed at the Nazionale 3 times and I am about to book it for a 4th. Unlike the United States, many/most of buildings in Rome are comparitively old. If you keep this in mind and enjoy the atmosphere, you will find the Nazionale a warm, traditionally Italian, convenient place to stay in the heart of old Rome. The Nationale is very close (walking distance) to many of the places you will want to visit. And, maybe best of all, the most famous and best gelato shop in Rome, Gigliotti's, is just around the corner. The following are directions you'll want to remember: When you walk out of the Nationale, go around the corner on your left and keep walking until you see Giolitti's on the left. You order at the register near the front door, then take your ticket to the gelato counter. Or, sit at an outside table and order there. However, if you order inside, don't sit at an outside table or they will run you off. In that case, just take your gelato back up the street to the hotel and sit a one of their outside benches. We did that often, enjoyed a Roman evening and watched people in the piazza.

The Pantheon, Trevi, Spanish steps, Forum and more are all close and the hotel keeps of pad of very handy maps at the front desk. Additionally, you will find the staff quite willing to help you locate a destination or call a taxi. A real treat is having lucnh or dinner at the Patheon piazza or Piazza Novona just to watch people and both are a very easy walk from the Nazionale.

If you have any concerns about security, the Nationale is the hotel for you. It is located on Piazza Montecitoria, which is also where the Parliment building is located. Your taxi will have to pass through security on the way to the hotel.

Breakfast, colazione, is enough to get your day started . . . the rest is up to you. But, if you are looking for a nice convenient place to call home while visiting Rome, you should consider the Nazionale.

Room Tip: Simply ask the staff member checking you in for what they believe to be the nicest room available in...

Can't say enough about this hotel. My wife and I recently returned from our stay in Rome at the Hotel Nazionale. Our room, on the third floor overlooking a private area, was very quiet and of nice size. The breakfast was more than adequate. Patrick at the Front Desk could not have been more helpful and Roberto in the Il Donatella bar always made our visit a fun time. In addition the location of this hotel can't be beat. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go, from the Colosseum to the Vatican. The Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain were just around the corner. Great restuarants within walking distance. We never needed a cab or a bus. If we were to return to Rome this is where we would stay.

Having been to Rome about 20 times in the last 3 years for business, I have come to know the city as best a tourist can. I have stayed in various locations throughout the city, but always love to come back to the Nazionale in the 'heart' of the city. Where else can you have no agenda and simply wander the surrounding streets and feast on all things Roma? The shops, the eateries, the monuments and ruins, the churches and art all within easy walking distance. Hearing the seagulls at dawn or the bells from a nearby church in the evening, the sights and sounds of the city permeate this location. I feel safe walking at any hour. The hotel staff is very accommodating, from making dinner arrangements, giving directions, obtaining necessities, to simply offering their suggestions for the perfect vacation experience. I have had rooms from there from the very tiny to very large and comfortable; being a very old building, they have something for everyone, and all rooms are immaculate. Nearby not to miss sights are: the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navonna, and the Coliseum.

I chose this hotel based on the location as my husband and I wanted to be within walking distance to most of the major attractions and it was great for that (Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps & Colosseum). The breakfast included was also great with a lot of variety even when you arrive 1/2 an hour before they close. Overall I was not impressed and did not believe it was as advertised in the online pics. The bed was clean and pretty comfortable, but the "4" star hotel is really like a Howard Johnson. In the room we got the wall paper was peeling, the light fixture was crooked (light bulb also flickered when light was off) and if you left the air on it caused a moldy smell. Also, we do not like staff in our room during a stay and leave the do not disturb sign up to prevent it. Apparently that does not mean anything to the maids as they cleaned the room & provided turndown service when we left the do not disturb sign up. I would not stay at this location again.

The five of us, two kids, two parents and a grandmother, spent 4 nights at this hotel. It is located in the heart of ancient Rome, within walking distance of the forum, the spanish steps, the fountain of Trevi, the forum, the coliseum and the Vittorio Emanuelle II monument. Staff will direct you to city bus for an easy 15 minute ride to the Vatican. It is beautifully furbished, the rooms are very comfortable and rather spacious. The personel is very attentive to details and considerate to clients. The breakfast is simply wonderfull. The products are fresh, the croissants are crisp fleaky and buttery inside. There is a wide variety of food to please everyone's palet. Good coffee is available at the breakfast buffet but don't heistate to ask staff from your table for a cup of coffee. They will bring you a better cup from the kitchen at no extra charge. The hotel restaurant is also worth a visit.

Room Tip: Rooms with views of the Piazza Monte Citorio are quiet at night but a little louder during the day...

We recently stayed at the Nazionale for four nights and had a wonderful experience. The room was large, clean and the staff was absolutely fantastic and helpful. The location is perfect for checking out all the sights in Rome and there is a great gelato place just around the corner!

Stayed for 6 nights in April 2012. Good location, right by the police station and government building. Big rooms, comfy bed and $15 unlimited movie promo was good; 24 hours. Downfall breakfast room was always busy and wifi for only an hour a day. Able to walk everywhere.
