“Bed bug bitten in rather worn hotel”
Reviewed 4 June 2011

Apart from the bed bug/louse incident (which will be described below), we were satisfied with this hotel. It is a rather worn, 2-3 star property (depending on what you compare it to), but all in all rather OK by Italian standards, and especially for Rome.

The rest:
Location is good, depending on what you want to be close to, lots of shopping venues and cafés along Via Nazionale. Rooms are nice, a bit shabby, but reasonably clean and spacious, and except for a rather nasty bed spread (again, normal by Italian standards) and some chipped and worn furniture, no complaints. Breakfast much better than average in Italy/Southern Europe, lots to choose from and even fresh fruit daily (although orange cordial instead of juice, but again, that is pretty normal in the area). Housekeeping was thorough. Some members of reception staff very nice, some very rude. So all in all, good value for money if you get a good rate and just want an OK room in a good location to lay your head whilst in Rome. If you're after comfort and pampering and super clean modern facilities then give it a miss (but expect to pay a lot more).

Our experience:
My husband was bitten by a bed bug/wall louse in the middle of the night, which caused some pain and a considerable swelling of his shoulder area. He caught and killed the bug, and went down to reception to report incident and ask for another room. Reception staff was sympathetic, but offered no more than clean sheets, and we had to change the linens ourselves in the middle of the night - NOT ideal. The lady in the reception the next morning was very rude but eventually we got a new room, and thorough cleaning by housekeeping. The manager assured that it was a one off, and also compensated for one night's stay and offered a dinner at a nearby restaurant, so all in all, the situation was handled well, eventually.

If it hadn't been for the bite, we'd probably stay here again (and would probably have rated it a little higher), but as it is ... well ... probably not, but we wouldn't discourage others either, just be aware that if this happens to you, it was not a one off. If nobody else has the same experience (and we sincerely hope not!!), however, by all means stay here and enjoy.

(Rating below is a little off, since it is a sort of mean between overall experience apart from the bed bug incident and the incident itself. Some staff members behaved admirably and some were rude, sleep quality was very good on all the preceding nights, but obviously horrendous on the night in question and not very good after, cleanliness by and large was good and well above average, but then again, the bug had to come from somewhere ... but we've tried to be as fair as we can, considering.)

This hotel is in a fabulous location. It is an old hotel but meets all standards. Had a wonderful stay that was ruined by 2 incidents. Purchased 24 hours of wifi & was told had the entire week to use it. When it stopped working after 3 days same person said "Oh no you had to use it in 3 days". I would never have purchased 24 hrs if I knew I had to use it in 3 days. Then we found out we had to leave a day early & gave 2 days notice. We were told their policy is 3 days. They held us to it & charged us for a night we weren't there. This was after I had booked two groups of family members to stay at this hotel before & after my stay! I wrote to the manager about this & he did not even have the courtesy to respond. Do yourself a favor & boycott this joint.

Room Tip: Book online & do not accept the first room.

The hotel was just what we needed really. Rome isnt a holiday when you want a gym and a swimming pool in your hotel. All we needed was the basics. As a bonus we got a balcony, which was nice. The room its self was good nothing to moan about really, eccept the shower was abit small (i am 6ft 4in though). The rooms were cleaned everyday to a good standard. I will say i thought the breakfast was abit boring and blah, but thats just my opinion.
The staff couldn't of been more helpful. Always there to help you with anything you needed. Advised you good and cheap resturants to go to. The best attractions etc.
The hotel is located about 15-20minutes walk away from the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, about 10minutes from the Trevi Fountain and 15minutes from the Spanish Steps. You would need to get a taxi or the Metro to the Vatican because its quite a long walk. Just to inform you also if you visit the Vatican you have to have your Knees and shoulders covered.
Overall the hotel was really good, in a really good location which made the holiday even better.
F.Y.I. You have to pay City Tax at the end of your stay, when you check out, so be prepared.

Nice 3 star hotel, very good value for money if your after a place to simply rest at the end of a busy day sightseeing - then this is perfect. Walking distance to all the sights - only time we used the metro was to visit the Vatican. Room (triple) was lovely and clean - beds made and room tidied daily and fresh towels everyday. Breakfast was basic but you could eat as much as you wanted. Staff very helpful and speak very good English. I would definitely return to this hotel again.

The hotel is ok, nothing special about it. The location is convenient, close to some sights and the Repubblica metro station. The breakfast did not have much variety. From what I understood the hotel mostly deals with travel agencies so do not be surprised if you check in after 13:00 because all rooms are booked. It happened to me, I arrived at 9:00 and had to wait till 13:30 to go to my room.

We stayed at the Hotel Miami at the beginning of Feb 2011. The hotel suited our needs completely and was within walking distance of all the main attractions. The staff were pleasant and the room was excellent value for money. The breakfast had a good range of continental items and even at peak time we were able to get a table. We would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a bargain quality 3* hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights in December. The hotel is in a great location, easy walk to Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Colloseum. You can get the metro to Vatican City, but we walked and it did not feel very long.

The rooms are standard, the shower is very very very small. The bed was very hard and not that comfortable to sleep on. The room was clean though and was made up every day. There is not much to choose from with the breakfatst, but you did not leave feeling hungry either.

The staff were friendly and their service was good.

I do not think I would stay here again though.
