“Pleasant”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

The room we had here on the first floor was huge. It was two storeys! It was very pleasant, but slightly run down. We felt it could be brilliant with a little bit of work to fix the cracks in the walls, the blocked drains, the peeling wallpaper, the faulty wifi and the dodgy air conditioner that switched itself off every night just when you really needed it. Having said that, the staff were very attentive and nothing was a hassle. When the air went off they sent us fans. Any request was welcomed and assistance was always given with a smile. The hotel was in a pretty good location, too and although we didn’t eat in the courtyard restaurant, it looked stunning. The only thing it didn’t have was an iron in the room, apparently due to safety regulations. It’s a minor thing, but with irons that turn themselves off automatically now, it seems a bit extreme. Having travelled for a few weeks, it would have been great to have pressed clothes. They do offer to press them as a service, but the cost is pretty high. Generally, this was a pretty good place and I doubt you’d find a room this big elsewhere. We had a pretty comfortable stay here.

Very nice hotel, perfect location, not only 50mt from Piazza del Popolo and Via del Corso, practically in the historic center of Rome, but also near the Metro so you can easily reach other locations in the city. Our room was enormous, maybe one of the largest not suite-paid rooms I've ever been, but our friends booked the same day and got a smaller but better one. All basics included, a very good breakfast, and very gentle staff. There was also a very nice garden for having breakfast in the hot summer days. Absolutely recommended mainly for the location. About the price, I can not really say much cause we got a tremendous offer. For us it was a perfect match!

The hotel was booked through an agency and we paid £250 per night for a double executive room. We were upgraded on arrival to a bedroom and sitting room. We were rather shocked to see the style of decoration after we had viewed the room on the internet but the facilities were good. It is simply furnished like a motel not a 4* hotel.. Our room was on the first floor overlooking the courtyard. Loud music played until 12.30 at night for the three nights we were there. The staff were polite and helpful at all times and the location is excellent. Breakfast was top rate but the waiters looked as if they had bad stomach aches.

We stay at the Residenza di Ripetta for 3 nights following a 10 night cruise. The hotel is a former convent tucked onto Via de Ripetta and within walking distance to Piazzia de Popolo, so it is located very centrally. When we were in Rome, the weather was warm, which made our room hot! They put us in another room, which was not much better, and gave us a fan. They told us that they were only allowed to run the air conditioning in the hotel for a restricted amount of time, which was why the rooms were hot. The room itself was rather dated, dark, and had no view, but we were pretty much there only to sleep. So if you're looking for a hotel that sleek and modern, stay at the Hilton! The courtyard was a lovely place to relax after a long day of sight seeing, though. The breakfast buffet was the usual fare; we ate dinner at the hotel our last night a part of our Luxury Link package. Service was great and the food was tasty. The staff were always helpful and accommodating.

Central Rome has smarter four-star hotels, but none as venerable and suave as the Residenze di Ripette. This is a beguilingly stylish hotel with some of the world's most charming and competent staff: Assistant General Manager Franco and concierges extraordinaire Angelo, Stefano simultaneously answered questions (nearest ATM, incredible restaurant recommendations, transfer options to FCO, more blankets for the suite, etc.) and fashioned seemingly effortless, though highly effective, solutions in literally split seconds, in perfectly suave manner. And front desk staff Frank, Francesca, Mariangela all unfailingly ventured beyond the call of duty to make guests feel welcomed, reassured and pampered.

We arrived at the hotel around 10:25am from Civitavecchia after we disembarked from the Windstar Wind Spirit cruise early in the morning. Even though it was nearly 5 hours before regular check-in time, not only did they already assign a suite awaiting us, they even managed to upgrade it from a Junior Royal Suite to a full Royal Suite without our asking.

And the location couldn't be more propitious - it's one block from the Piazza Popolo and Via Del Corso. The breakfast, abundant with choices, was presented in a very elegant setting. In summary, we have no hesitation to recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to stay at a refined hotel with a central location in Rome.

Room Tip: Royal suites facing the garden are quiet and sumptuous.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, however, unfortunately the rooms are quite dated. I had a feeling this was a grand hotel in the past, and with a little tlc, this could be restored to a fine establishment.
The staff were absolutely lovely, and the breakfast very nice.
This is so close to some fantastic restaurants and bars. Ad-Hoc is reputed to be one of Rome's best, though without a reservation, is not easy to book - it's just opposite the hotel. We had a very romantic meal at Al Duello, which is just 10 mins walk towards Piazza Navona - the lady owner is lovely. Close by is Casa Coppelle - fantastic food - now my favourite in Rome.
Piazza del Popolo is nice to walk around - make sure you don't go to mass in the wrong cathedral - there are 3 churches beside one another. Stop off for a glass of wine at Caffe Rosati and soak in the atmosphere.
Villa Borghese is very close by, with some fantastic walks, and elevated views across the city. I recommend you hire out a bike for 1/2 day at €8. There is a very nice walk to Spanish steps.
Via del Corsa is also close buy, one of the best shopping areas in Rome.
Last tip, when you arrive at the airport take the shuttle service, minibus service, for €15 per person.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights, staff were helpful and polite, buffet breakfast was ok - what you would expect from this standard of hotel and we loved the location of the hotel and the courtyard for lunch and drinks, but the bedroom itself was very disappointing, bit shabby, rough sheets, foamy pillows - certainly not feather.
After our siesta on the day we arrived (about 5pm) we told the concierge that the air conditioning was not working and the shower which had a rain shower head was only dripping out water - but we were told apologetically that the handy man had gone for the day. That night we slept with the windows open and woke early to day light and breakfast noises, not what we were hoping for on our romantic getaway!
They sent up a handy man the next morning and the AC was temporarily fixed and the shower head not fixed - made washing my long hair very arduous!
We complained again that afternoon about the ac and shower head - shower never fixed and ac again worked temporarily (for an hour or so) but again we woke up boiling at 3am having to open the windows.
It didn't ruin our trip but we were very disappointed, we love our sleep, if it was any hotter it would be unbearable - as in july or August. I don't imagine they will ever fix these 2 problems in room 307 and it's ony the start of the tourist season, so my advice is if you aren't happy with your room, asked to be moved, don't waste your time asking them to fix it!
They offered to forgo €20.00 as compensation! When I pushed them on it, they offered an additional €20.00 or so, it wasn't about the money though, I just wish I had insisted on changing room immediately! Staff were very helpful though I must stress this, and I don't want to put you off the hotel as it is good value for money but just be aware!

Room Tip: Check everything is working in your room when the bell boy is with you and before you unpack your ba...

Dear guest,

thank you for your comments and for the nice words for our staff and breakfast service. We apologize if the furniture of the room did not meet your expectations but we are sure to confirm that our Royal Suite 307 is always neat and welcoming. Evenmore the bed sheets are made in natural cotton and always soft and ironed. Concerning pillows we do use foam non allergenic pillows for understandable reasons, by the way we provide feathers ones on request.
Timing of Air Conditioning is managed respecting the set operating hours provided by the City Council. We will be allowed to keep it on 24 hours per day only in summer months.
Our staff believed to pleased you offering a special discount but would have been equally glad to let you have a different room, they probably misuderstood your intentions in changing it.
We hope to have a second chance to completely satisfy your needs, during your next stay in the Eternal City
