“A good base for Rome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2012

The location is great. Within 3 blocks of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill. And a 25 min walk to Trevi and Pantheon. Our room looked into an inner atrium - no view - but that was good as we got a quiet haven away from the noise of Rome. We slept well and the breakfast was good. It was nice to eat in the open air on their room terrace. The only odd things were the plastic base under the bed sheets (a bit crunchy to sleep on) and the lack of a safe in the room, or at the front desk, so we couldn't lock away our passports. Otherwise it was great. The staff were very helpful, even the ones that couldn't speak a word of English - it worked out fine with sign language.

Quaint, clean, friendly family-run hotel near Colosseum in centro storico Roma. This was our third stay at Hotel Apollo Roma and have always had a wonderful experience. The family and staff always make us feel very welcome. They are happy to assist with any concerns, questions or arranging cab. The hotel is located in a safe location with numerous small ristorante, food shops, and coffee shops in vicinity. Each morning a nice breakfast buffet is served on the rooftop terrace. The rooms are clean and very nicely decorated. We wish to say a big Thank You to the family and staff of Hotel Apollo Roma for another great stay!

Room Tip: Note that hotel is located in centro area and there might be various street noise - rubbish bin pick...

We stayed for a week at the Apollo Hotel to explore the ancient sites and to re-visit old haunts. Having lived in Rome previously we were familiar with the area and it was just as we remembered it. The hotel was on a reasonably quiet street and is only a short walk to the ruins. We had a room on the fourth floor with a view out onto the street, at the end of which was the Colosseum! The rooms were really quite charming, with flocked wallpaper and comfy beds. Yes, the bins do get emptied quite early in the morning, but we only heard it because we had the windows open. The windows, when shut, were well double-glazed, meaning that there was not a lot of noise for a city centre location. The staff were lovely and very welcoming, arranging a taxi for the airport for our return home and very willing to offer recommendations for restaurants if you needed them. There were plenty of little grocery stores and shops on the street, so you were never short of a gelato or two. The mini bar in the hotel room was also very reasonably priced with room to put your own bits and bobs that you wanted to keep cool.
Breakfast (served from 7am - 10am) offered a range of croissants, pastries, bread, cereal and the continental style selection of cheese and ham. By far the best part was the cappucinos prepared for you on request. In all, there is going to be something for everyone and the atmosphere of the breakfast room was really lovely on the sunny mornings.
Not far down the street was the Forno de' Serpenti, a little bakery that offered a fantastic range of pastries, treats, bread and sandwiches and is absolutely worth a visit. Everything is paid for by weight, so it's really good value to grab a few things before venturing off into the city, particularly as you will pay a real premium for snacks in the area around the Forum and the Via del Corso. A small drinking water fountain can also be found on the street, so it's easy to fill up your water bottles. The Cavour metro stop was only a short walk away.
We had an absolutely lovely stay. The only reason we could not give a full five star review is because we thought that the hotel could do with some new bath towels - a few of ours being quite extensively ripped when we came to use them - but this really should not over shadow just how wonderful this little hotel is for a stay in Rome. We would be very happy to return in future and, having stayed in several 4* hotels in the city, I would quite happily choose this hotel over them purely for the better value Hotel Apollo offers for a stay in the city. Grazie Mille Hotel Apollo!!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor and a street view if you want a view out with the Colosseum to the left, but on...

We could not have chosen a better place to stay at in Rome. This hotel was extremely confortable, elegant in a over-the-top-yet-still-acceptable way, spotlessly clean, served by helpful, attentive staff and superbly located in a an area that wasn’t too busy and was still close to many areas of interest.

The room was spacious and had a good minibar in a fridge large enough to allow for some of our own food/drinks too. The bathroom was large and bright, with thin, but numerous and fresh white towels and a selection of cosmetics. The staff were welcoming when we got there, offered us a map of the city upon arrival, a plug adaptor when asked for, promptly called taxies for us whenever needed. The breakfast room on the upper terrace must be wonderful in the warmer seasons. It was quite friendly, if a bit cold, now too. The food on offer was varied and good, if a bit biased towards the sweet things. They offered freshly made cappuccinos or espressos as well. Internet cards were available from the reception for 5 euro for 3 hours.

We would certainly return to this hotel and recommend it to others!

I booked and paid 3 months in advance the 1 bedroom apartment we were a party of 2 ladies 2 teenagers (14) boy and girl. We liked the look of it on the net we wanted a kitchen so we could cook and make a cuppa. On arrival at 9.30pm we were told could not have the apartment person in it is still there was sick had seen a doctor was told he could not b moved, we said if he is that sick he should b in a hospital. We were put into 2 separate rooms 2 single beds in each no cooking facilities not even a kettle. We then had to pay for every meal we had. When standing outside the next morning we saw a husband and wife 2 small children go through the entry to the apartment we booked it is the separate gated area next to the hotel if you looking at it on the site. I recieved no phone call regarding the change had to stay otherwise would have blown my money. Will never stay at that hotel again and in regards to agoda will not use them again either.

Room Tip: Dont bother with this one go somewhere else.

The title says it all. A small family owned hotel and it showed. We were very well looked after by all staff during our Roman visit, breakfast was a varied substanial continental buffet. The rooms were clean and well appointed in an older style which was very elegant in truth. This hotel is always busy and its not difficult to see why.

Very good hotel with a reasonable price for Rome. Its very close to the
Coliseum and walking distance to almost all atractions. We felt very safe around the hotel during the day or night.
Breakfast is good and the owner makes tasty capuccinos. He is a really nice guy and gave us really good advices and directions.
Our room was spacious and confortable. It was on the second floor and had a window to the front street, but it wasn't noisy.
Yes, the towels were thins, but not a problem at all.

If you are looking for a nice plane with reasonable price you've found it!

Warning: Via dei Serpenti is a Traffic Controled Zone (they call it ZTL) so with you drive to the hotel you will get a ticket!
It's best to get there by taxi or walk from the subway, it's not that far.
