We couldn't have asked for a more convenient location for touring ancient Rome. The hotel is clean and modern with an attentive, friendly staff, available 24 hours. Walter at the front desk is very helpful. He promptly attended to all our requests and made suggestions and arrangements for places to visit. The hotel is in a perfect location, close to points of interest, accessible by buses and trains nearby. Very highly recommended for anyone visiting Rome.

This superb hotel is in a great location for walking to all the must see sights in Rome, close to buses to anywhere in the city and just across the road to the river and a lovely little park with it's own 2000 year old temples!

Palazzo al Velabro was perfect for our visit to Rome. We couldn't have asked for a better location, we were in the heart of ancient Rome. Everything we wanted to see and do was easily accessible and a short walk away. Our unit was recently updated and the accommdations would be good for those with and without children.

The staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Each day we were greeted by good conversation and greetings. All of our questions and requests were addressed quickly. The cleaning staff did a remarkable job. The provided robes and slippers were a nice touch.

Our apartment was comfortable for all 4 of us. The kitchenette was great to have with two teenage boys. The nearby restaurants and markets provided ample food, snacks and drinks to keep them satisfied.

We will definitely stay at the Palazzo al Velabro in the future.

This is an extremely nice place to stay though somewhat out of the way. I stayed here with my cousin through a timeshare exchange and I would highly recommend it to others for exchange or rental. We were in a one bedroom unit, with a wonderful large king sized bed in the bedroom and a pull out loveseat in the living room, both of which were extremely comfortable. There was plenty of dresser and closet space and a very convenient safe. The entire hotel has been recently renovated and it feels and looks fresh and new. The kitchen facility is definitely minimalist, with no microwave and a tiny bar type refrigerator. There is a small two burner cookstove, and a couple of pots and pans and some dishware. No microwave but a small dishwasher. We make tea every night and generally snack on cheese and such so we didn’t need much but still we used the kitchen. There was no dishwashing material and when I requested it, I got a large container of liquid detergent and an old sponge with a scrubby. Well, it did the job…

There is a very nice HD TV set but it gets only Italian TV – no CNN or BBC news, so of limited use to English speakers. Wireless internet costs E9 per day, which seems a bit much. It really seems as if internet should be like a TV and such - just a standard part of the accommodation but not so here.

The front desk staff is really super friendly and helpful and they all speak perfect English. They are happy to be helpful about arranging taxis and such and will cheerfully look up information for you about various goings on.

The hotel is near the river and the old, historic section of town. It is a goodly distance from the train station and a hike to the metro, but many buses run on the street nearby. Its location is a bit obscure when you first arrive – it is up the steps from a historic arch or approachable on a cobblestone road that is often blocked by parked cars. You can get bus information from the maps or buy a bus map from a tobacco stand. Everyone likes to tell you in Italy that the bus maps are changing but since everything is printed on old signs at the bus stops that don’t seem to change, I think they just don’t want to give away free maps when they are being sold at local stands. The tourist information stand outside the Termini is friendly and helpful and the hotels and TI have excellent free maps and you can rely on them for good information and the bus info on those maps worked just fine.

Breakfast is served daily at the hotel – it was not included in my rate and after I checked it out, I did not think it was worth E12.5 per day. There just seemed to be some coffee and a few pastries. There is not much to eat very close by. Around the corner up the hill is a farmer’s market and there are some sandwich/pastry shops and such in walking distance, but you must really cross the Tiber and wander into the Trastavere to find a decent restaurant – that is an easy walk but you do have to brave several busy Rome streets without the help of traffic lights! The fitness center was nice and had a decent choice of machines.

The staff at Residence Palazzo Al Velabro is extremely friendly. The lobby of the hotel is modern and updated and the room is pretty clean. Unfortunately they were a little stingy with the toiletries. We had go to the lobby and asked for them every time we ran out.

This is like an aparthotel - we had a deluxe double apartment and it was very good indeed. Altho' the building is old, it has been refurbished and is very modern inside. The apartment had a lounge/kithenette/dining table, bathroom and good sized bedroom. Very comfortable. It's really useful to have the extra facilities compared to a hotel room. It's ideal for the ancient Roman sites - walking distance. The 110 tourist bus stops close by. There are restaurants within walking distance and a wonderful deli/shop a few minutes stroll. Obviously, the choice of restaurants is not as good as some other areas but we found it fine. What makes this hotel stand out are the people - everyone was really helpful and friendly. Reception staff speak excellent English and were very efficient and helpful both before we arrived with our queries and then the whole time we were there. Full marks! We booked our airport transfers through the hotel too and these were spot on. All in all, a really good palce to stay.

A modern and comfortable residence hotel with spacious rooms. Friendly and serviceminded personnel. A nice and convenient location for those who do not fancy jet set/disco and shopping. Close to Capitol and Palatino makes it the perfect starting point for visit to these "must see" places.
