“Great location, hotel and breakfast!”
Reviewed 31 March 2012

We stayed at Ponte Sisto for 3 nights during an Italy trip for our honeymoon. Our room was beautiful - king size bed, large tub/shower. There is an elevator - after a small set of stairs from the lobby but the porter will take your bags to your room. There is a lovely courtyard/patio with tables and chairs and umbrellas. The breakfast was beyond expectations. The orange juice was amazing. There was an assortment of breads, meat and cheeses, jams/jellies, scrambled eggs and bacon, cereal, fresh fruit, coffee/tea and an assortment of fresh juices. It really was quite a substantial spread. Cappuccino and expresso were available on request. The location was superb. Quick walk across the pedestrian bridge and you were in the heart of the Trastevere area with lots of character, restaurants and lively night spots. Walking the other way from the hotel you are in the Piazza Navona in 10 minutes. There's a small grocery store about a block away. Location is close to several bus routes also - including one that will drop you right at the entrance to the Vatican museums. Front desk staff was helpful and very nice. Overall this was a great hotel and a great location.

Stayed 3 nights in the hotel.
Clean, functional and very central. All the staff we freindly and helpful. The hotel has a lovely central courtyard and the whole place has a slightly secluded feel to it despite its central location. Our room had a little balcony with pleasant views over the adjacent properties and gardens.
Everything you'd expect from a good quality 4 star hotel.
Rome was great despite Scotland's dreadful dispay in the rugby!

Spent 4 nights while sightseeing in Rome. Good location for walking to Forum, Colosseum, Vatican. Good room (superior) but bed was very firm. Breakfast was very good but, as the restaurant was closed for dinner, we strolled over the Tiber into the Trastevere area where there were plenty of places to eat. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the courtyard and was quiet at this time of year. It may get noisy if guests wer...

We had a big surprise when we arrived at this hotel. I will start by saying that it has an excellent location. We were able to walk to all Roman attractions (museums, pantheon, Piazza Navona, St.Peters etc.) We were across the Ponte Sisto bridge that leads to Trastevere that provided a big selection of places to dine and wine. Full buffet breakfast that included eggs, cheeses, pastries different types of bread, prosciutto bacon etc.with a lovely crew willing to accomodate your breakfast request. We can not complete this review without giving special thanks to two excellent front desk personnel, they were Mauricio and Marcelo. Mauricio went above and beyond his call of duty to ascertain that our stay was a memorable one. In our next visit to Rome we will not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: We were on the fourth floor next hall and it was very quiet.

This is a charming hotel, very well-located across the Tiber from Trastevere. My room (#302) which looked out on the courtyard was very quiet. During the warmer months, this room might catch some noise from the outdoor diners.
The room size was quite adequate as I was traveling alone - some might find it a tight squeeze for two.
The staff was always pleasant and helpful.
The breakfasts were ample and the wait-staff was also quite pleasant.

I really wanted to love this hotel, but I just didn't. My family loves to travel and I don't think that we have unreasonable expectations. We have stayed in quite a few other 4 star, smaller-sized hotels that really shined. Pros: clean room with up-to-date bathroom; quiet; good location; nice breakfast. Cons: room the size of a closet with the smallest window I've ever seen in a hotel room; front desk was abrupt and even dismissive (directions to dinner were "take a left down the street and it's under a tree"); only air came from a courtyard where people went to smoke. That pretty much killed it for me. We'll try elsewhere next time.

Reviewed 24 February 2012

My husband and I just finished a four night stay at Hotel Ponte Sisto (booked through Gate 1 Travel) and were just thrilled with the accomodations at this smaller, almost unassuming property.

First, the staff was great. I didn't encounter any rudeness or unwillingness to help us at any time like some other reviews described. We arrived very early for check in and they were able to provide us with a room right away. They were always ready with a restaurant recommendation (which were VERY good!), showed us the best walking routes on the map they provided us with to get to our selected destinations, took care of mailing my postcards, corrected my Italian when I was pronouncing a commonly used word incorrectly (lol), and, even though the courtyard was closed they opened it up for us at the drop of a hat on one sunny day and put cushions out for us to sit on.

Second, the location was great too. We wanted to be able to walk everywhere and this hotel is situated perfectly to do so. Things are a lot closer than they appear on the map too so we had no problem walking to the "ancient rome" sites (Colisseum, etc.), Vatican City, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Gianicolo Hill, Trevi Fountain or Spanish Steps. Yes, we walked a lot but we wanted to in order to experiece the true atmosphere of Rome. Again, as most other posters have said, don't let the graffiti that lines the narrow street throw you off. Graffiti is ALL over Rome so its presence is not an indication of the "type" of neighborhood you are in. I actually felt safer walking in the area around the hotel than I did by the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain where there are tons of street hockers all trying to scam you for money and sell you things. The Ponte Sisto is in a part of the city that is less tourist-y and hectic and to us, more authentic. Also the hotel is located right across the river from Trastevere. We LOVED this little medieval neighborhood. The restaurants were incredible and the late night wine bar scene was great for us being in our 30's and wanting a place to go out, but not a clubbing type atmosphere. There is also a small supermarket next door so you can buy soda, water, beer and wine there and save a little money (e.g. a coke at the hotel will cost you 3 euro but at the supermarket its 1,5 euro).

Third, the room was very nice. We were prepared for the "European style" smaller room (our travel company warned us in advance that a "double bed" was likely to be two twins pushed together- and it was!) but were pleasantly surprised that our marble bathroom was quite large. The two wardrobes provided us with more than enough room to store our clothes and large luggage. There was a small flat screen tv, the bath products were nice, and we totally appreciated the towel warmer and complimentary slippers. The room was cleaned every day no problem.

Fourth, the breakfast was great. We had no issues with the food but we weren't expecting a major spread either. The bread and fruit was always fresh, the coffee was good, plenty of cereals and yogurts were offered and the eggs and bacon, through a little greasy, were fine too.

Finally, I guess our only "complaint" was the temperature in the room. It was really hot. We were there in February and the temps were in the 40s but when we asked at the front desk about the heat in our room we were told they had it at 78 degrees. Apparently the front desk controls the main heating/cooling function and, once in your room, you can only adjust it 3 degrees celcius upwards or downwards. We tended to sleep with the window open all night and just a sheet. But all in all, it wasn't a huge deal for us.

I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel without an ounce of hestitation!
