“Not far from Metro and Train Station, but far from main tourist attraction.”
Reviewed 25 August 2011

I stay here for 3 nights. The hotel 5 to 6 blocks from train station. 200 to 300m from Metro. Nearby have resto (italian n chinese), cafe, minimart. The hotel room is ok. Have wifi, but signal is weak. We stay at 1fl, hv to stand at the door to get signal. Breakfast at 5th floor. It is such a beautiful setup at rooftop.

The hotel is far from major tourist spot, have to take metro or taxi.

We stayed two first nights in Italy here. Definetely not a disappointed,
but not a good surprise. Average. Location is fine, breakfast served
in roof-top terrace was located nicely, but the breakfast itself was
a really average.

Hotel Canova staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms were small but very comfortable. The small elevator was a source of constant amusement for my teenage daughters, as it will only accommodate two smallish people.
Breakfast is adequate, Continental, without eggs, croissants and typically only one sort of ham and cheese. Loads of sweets and cookies. Coffee is ok.
Hotel Canova is located on a quiet street (Urbana) a short walk from the Colosseum and the Roma Form.
Recommend a ROMA PASS as there is a Metro station at the end Via Urbana, makes it easy to access the rest of Rome.
Hotel Canova was very charming and quiet, we really enjoyed ourselves.

Room Tip: Room Airconditioner and TV remotes are provided at check-in. If you don't know this your air wil...

The staff were great to us and the location was fab. Particularly just up the road there was the best restaurant we've been to.
The rooms were very comfortable! Only the lift was so tiny that it was quite an adventure getting in and out of it with bags!! :)

Friendly, articulate reception staff. Room very small and basic with characteristically dark old furniture. Bed comfortable. Bathroom with small shower cubicle. Loved the thick towels. Terracota tiled floors in bedroom - good when hot but not so good when cold. Air conditioning and heating appeared to be centrally controlled despite a notice advising visitors to push the card into the slot and wait for 15 minutes for the air conditioning to kick in. When I enquired about this at reception I was informed that they hadn't switched it on. I gave up in the end and just opened the window. Rooms in public and private areas very clean. Buffet breakfast choice adequate but no hot dishes available. Breakfast room is interestingly querky - alcoves, walls painted like frescoes ... Hotel in quiet side street close to metro, terminii and centre - nearest to Forum and Colloseum, Hotel near to several restaurants and cafes serving good quality food at reasonable prices.

Room Tip: Obtained a good night's sleep in room 102.

I booked this hotel online through the hotel's website. I booked one night at the beginning of my trip, and 4 nights a week and a half later at the end of my trip. I booked them at the same time, through the same website, and received the same confirmation email for both. When I arrived there for my first night stay they did not have a record of my reservation and tried to blame me for it. Finally they agreed that their system failed but they did not have any rooms. I insisted they find my something else and they finally did and it was across town so I had to take a cab there which they would not pay for. They did credit my bill the second time I was there for the cab fare.

I didn't have time or the opportunity to find somewhere else to stay so I did stay there for the 4 nights at the end of my trip. The single room was small, but that was expected. The bed was lopsided. The sheets were stained. The shower did not drain properly. One morning someone was vacuuming in the hall at 7am. And finally, I got bed bug bites all over my body.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Even if you have to pay more, find somewhere else to stay.

Staff was friendly. The location was a bit farther from the train / metro stations than preferred. The bus lines are pretty close and make up for this. The room we were given was very clean and nicely decorated. The shower did not drain very well and there was an ongoing issue with plumbing as the bathroom contained a drain in the center of the floor where typically no water should be. It is an older building so we could contantly hear water going through drain pipes. You may want to monitor the contruction going on across the street. It made for a really noisy breakfast one morning of the three days we were there. These are fair trade-offs for a less expensive stay in the city.
