This is the second time in the past three summers that I've stayed at Hotel San Pietrino and I'm even more convinced that it's a great location. The rooms are small (think Manhattan) but they are meticulously clean. The hotel is just 3 blocks from the Ottaviano metro station and less than a mile to The Vatican. With a metro ticket, and/or some good walking shoes, it's possible to see nearly every sight in Rome from this hotel. Note that they have rooms for a family of 4 and although all rooms are on the 3rd floor they do have a vintage elevator some might find quaint and others scary. We used it. It worked flawlessly.

We arrived at Roma in late night and It really took a long way to this hotel which is located in Vatican where you only take metro or taxi to get.To summrize, the room is nice and the facility is basic.Nice bathroom only with shower but a little small. The staff is not at your serve all the time, while, you could get what you request on your ask.You can find a water machine in the hall get some hotwater to drink. If you have to ask something we are not glad about,we could not find a person to help us with check-out and cashier on the day when we departed from roma to venice!

Room Tip: Room with a window facing street.

Close to subway, pizza, supermarket, gelato, with great breakfast place across the street. They made arrangements for a taxi to take us to airport. We stayed 4 nights and visited the entire city. This hotel worked out fine for us. Some rooms have private baths and some have shared baths. We had private baths, which were very clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Our group had 4 rooms. All the rooms were quiet.

Great clean comfortable accommodations. Good value, free wifi, good location (a few blocks away from the metro station and from the Vatican). There is a supermarket half a block away and a great little gelato place down the street. Our room had a sink, closet, decent bed and a view of the street. The shared bathroom is clean. There is a coffee and water dispenser that offers unlimited drinks in the hallway. They offer bicycles but the tires were flat so we couldn’t use them. I would stay here again when visiting Rome.

This hotel is great value for Rome. It is walking distance to the Vatican and close to a metro stop (so you can get to the colosseum etc). It's also right next to a pizza takeaway place, a small supermarket and an ATM in a secure neighbourhood. They will send a taxi to pick you up from the airport for 40 Euro which is also worth taking advantage of (most ordinary taxis have never heard of it and have trouble finding it so bring the address and directions if using another taxi). The room was a good size, particularly for Europe (i.e..you could actually close the door and still be standing in the room), it had air con, and the shower was hot with good pressure and was a separate cubicle with a door so you didn't get water everywhere (all of this is REALLY rare in Europe budget hotels!). The room was also very clean, well kept and very nice for the price. We did have one of the nicest rooms with an ensuite but we peeked in other rooms and they seemed similar (although some had no air con and/or no ensuite). The staff were overall very friendly and helpful. Some of the towels were too thin, but they were always large. There is a lift (also rare for Europe budget hotels) but it is very small. No breakfast, but there is a free cappucino machine. Wifi is free and good. I would definitely come back: it's a great place to use as a base to explore Rome.

Room Tip: If you go in June-Sept, get a room with air con.

I decided to end my backpacking trip by splurging on a hotel in Rome for my last few days. It turned out to be not much of a splurge as (in September at least) this place cost only 10 euro more a night for a double with ensuite than my bunk at a higher end hostel. One of the reviews below mentions cab drivers not knowing the hotel, but this would be true for many smaller hotels in Rome, bring the address and you'll be fine. It's actually easy walking distance from the Metro even with bags anyway and the train from the airport drops you right on the metro line to the place anyway. Choice of room levels, bigger and smaller, lots of neat little cafes nearby and all of a 5 minute walk from the Vatican museum and barely farther to St. Peter's. Five minute walk to the metro as well which will easily take you to any other sight in rome. Cappucino machine in the hall as well as filtered water (a lifesaver in Rome's heat and cold drink extortion market.) Basically a clean, well kept place to have a relaxing quiet sleep to recharge.

Room Tip: The double I had on the interior courtyard was quiet and air conditioned, really pleasant.

Our family of 4 liked the hotel and room - very secure, good cappunico machine saves time from going outside for this, near train station Octavviano and Bus Stop and 5 min walk from vatican. Helpful staff for directions - we enjoyed taking public transportation - the adventure. The rooms were kept clean . When you look out of the window you see Rome as a city that you would live in..loved it. Will go again sometime.

Room Tip: Book in advance..
