Four nights in room 2 in late October. Quick although somewhat formal check in at hotel Hassler, but very welcoming host at Il Palazzetto and fantastic location for first time visitor to Rome. Great thing about this place for us was it was super quiet even though the Spanish Steps are mere meters away, also the feeling of being in a small boutique apartment rather than a big hotel chain. Expensive but excellent breakfast in a terrific room setting in Hassler. Eye wateringly expensive to book a guide through the Hotel, but a good way to skip the queues and make the most of your investment to get there in the first place.

We spent two nights in Room 2 at Il Palazzetto, and it was wonderful. A bit more expensive than other options but Rome isn't cheap, and it was worth it to have a really spectacular end to our Italian vacation.
Check-in at the nearby Hassler was handled quickly and graciously, and we were escorted to our room while a bellman followed with our bags. There is also a reception desk on the ground floor of Il Palazzetto, staffed until 11 pm, where we could leave our room key when departing that way, as well as get help with dinner reservations, etc. although they don't handle cash or checkin/out there. Very friendly and personal service, since they are looking after only four rooms.
The room was gorgeous, with a view onto the Spanish Steps but very quiet. Great bed, walk-in closet with plenty of hangers and drawers, large bathroom with a tub and separate glass-doored shower, a decent hairdryer, and twice-daily maid service. We requested extra pillows and an iron/ironing board which were both supplied promptly.
Breakfast at the Hassler was good - in addition to the usual juices, yogurt, cereals, breads & pastries, and meats/cheeses, there was a nice assortment of sliced fresh fruit, eggs (soft-boiled and scrambled), bacon & sausage, and pancakes. Service here was efficient if impersonal.

Stayed here for four nights mid September. A boutique establishment comprising of only 4 bedrooms. We enjoyed a beautiful air conditioned room overlooking the Spanish Steps. The outside terrace was great for eating and drinking and a superb location to people watch.
Breakfast (inclusive in the room price) was taken at the nearby Hassler in a beautiful courtyard setting.
For a central location this place is hard to beat.

We stayed at the Il Palazzetto for two nights in August 2010.

The setting is amazing, and the room was great. The breakfast at the Hassler was fantastic. We and my fiance were extremely happy with our stay there.

We stayed at Il Palazzetto for the last 2 nights of a 2 1/2 week trip. On arrival we had stayed at the Splendide Royal up near the Borghese Gardens and wanted to experience a smaller property to see out our last days in Rome.

This property really is something VERY special. It's location right on the Spanish Steps is breath taking and there is nothing like watching the sun set from the roof terrace wine bar as tired and hot tourists navigate the steps! We stayed in Room 4 which is on the top floor and although it is incredibly close to the roof terrace bar the sound insulation is incredible!

To have the use of the facilities and concierge services at The Hassler was perfect and we were welcomed as if we were guests there. The breakfast was wonderful, note that a Continental breakfast is included in the room rate.

Our only gripe was the restaurant recommendation. When we arrived it held great promise as we were welcomed by walls lined with photos of famous celebrities who have dined there, so you'd think the food would be good right? WRONG! We had better meals at more local restaurants where we were the only non-Romans! We had said to the concierge that we wanted a really local place but sadly this was very over priced for below average food. On our last night we enjoyed a delicious meal on a roof terrace surrounded by locals and didn't want to leave!

Il Palazzetto is wonderfully located for walking the length and breadth of Rome and with it's links to The Hassler, you really can't go wrong!

My wife and I stayed at Il Palazzetto in October for our honeymoon.

The hotel only has three rooms so they make sure they are kept perfectly. It afforded great privacy and a sense of luxury for a reasonable price.

Breakfast each morning at the Hassler was always excellent.

The roof top bar is a perfect place to people watch with a cocktail. Location wise you could not ask for better to explore the city.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2011

I recently spent a week at Il Palazzetto on the recommendation of a friend who had also stayed there. As other reviews state , this small boutique hotel is owned by the prestigious Hassler Hotel located nearby. Having stayed in many 5 star hotels , I thought this was a great alternative.

We requested , and were given apartment 4 which is effectively on the top floor - on the same floor as the restaurant and under the rooftop bar. I will come back to that later.

Check in was at the Hassler and was seamless. The Hassler is located at the top of the Spanise steps on one side , whilst this hotel is located at the top of the Spanish Steps on the other side. It is a walk of about 50m. The room was the size of large standard room of any 5 star hotel. It was absolutely spotless clean , had a walk in robe , plenty of hanging space and a bathroom of very generous proportions , including a large bath and separate shower . The bed was very big and comfortable and the room was cleaned and towels changed twice per day. There was a table and chairs with windows opening with a terrific view of the Spanish Steps .

You walked out of our room , up several steps , to an outdoor restaurant. The staff there were always friendly and even though we did not eat at that restaurant , they were always courteous and friendly towards us as we would walk past several tables and then up another flight of steps to the rooftop exit ( where there was also a bar ) and then out onto the top of the Spanish Steps. Exiting this way was much easier than getting the lift down to ground level and then walking a circuitous route.

The rooftop bar only opens at 5pm and is a great place to chill out at the end of the day. It is not cheap for a drink as a standard beer was 9 Euros. The bar is open until around midnight. I was concerned that there may have been a ot of noise from the restaurant and bar filtering into our room at night but was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. The only noise I heard one night was when the rooftop bar was being cleaned after closing and there was a sound of chairs being dragged across the floor. That only happened on one night. As it was so hot , we had to sleep with the windows closed and the air conditioning on. The room felt like it was soundproofed and the air con was extremely efficient.

Breakfast was at The Hassler and included in our room rate of about $350 Euros per night. It was a standard continental breakfast . Beware if you ask for anything cooked , you will be charged up to 20 Euros.

There are complimentary pushbikes and one day we cycled around the nearby park which was a great way to spend several hours.

The hotel is very centrally located and is walking distance to most of the attractions and some great restaurants - not to mention the shopping.

Before coming to Rome , we had been in Positano and Capri where the hotels cost double that of Il Palazzetto and as such , I thought it represented great value for money.

I found the staff at The Hassler to be friendly and courteous as well and certainly do not agree with some of the comments expressed in other reviews.

Would I stay in this hotel again - undoubtedly yes. It is a great alternative to your traditional large 5 star hotel , which I think can be quite impersonal. If possible , I would suggest you ask for room 4 as this is the only room on the top floor.
