B & B Suburbe Roma

Reviewed 14 September 2006

We stayed at the Suburbe b&b in august. We took two children aged 10 and 12.
The bed and breakfast is situated on the third floor of the appartment block with no lift which may be a problem for some.
To us this was no problem and extremely good for toning up the legs!!
We didn't really know what to expect because the photos of the outside and indeed the appearence of the outside when you arrive isn't great.
But what you must remember is that all the old appartment blocks and buildings are like this in Rome.
Once there we were greeted by the owner Ennio who I must say was helpful and really welcoming.
We had a late flight home and he happily held our luggage for us till the evening and although i'm ashamed to admit it I wanted a kettle for my English coffee and Ennio soon got me one.
The kitchen had all the things in it you would need including a coffee maker, sink and oven.(which you don't need to use because the food is so cheap to eat out).
Our mini apartment had a double bedroom, bathroom and we slept on the fold out futon in the louge diner, which was lovely and comfortable, but speaking to Ennio the appartment was interchangeable with the appartment next door so it could sleep 2,4,6 so Email him before you go hes very helpful and will accomidate you if he can.
The rooms were all recently decorated and the kitchen and bathroom were new and very clean.
We loved the appartment outside was a piazza which was filled with locals and some tourists but the atmosphere was fantastic.
That was our nightly outing the children loved it and it was a lovely way to see and be part of Italian life.
There are lots of places to eat around the b&b and shops that sell allsorts are plentiful, Also the metro stop is about a 3 min walk so its easy to travel around from there.
The best thing though is when you come out of the front door and look down the road you see the Colloseum a sight you could never tire of seeing!!
If you go to Rome you must do the hop on hop off bus. Its cheap and so easy.
All I can say to anyone thinking of going to Rome is GO GO GO!
Its a fantastic city and the people are lovely just talk your phrase books and try to speak a little Italian.

Me and my mom just came back from a trip to Rome. We were booked at the Tourist house but because of internal problems they reserved us a room at the Bed & Breakfast Suburbe. As the accomodation wasn't that expansive we weren't sure what to expect. When the driver dropped us off at the B&B right at the piazza Madonna dei Monti we looked at each other as we entered the place because from the outside you didn't expect what you get to see from the inside: the rooms were fantastic (they seemed to be renovated lately), very good beds, nicely decorated, very clean (also the bathroom) and a wonderful view to the Piazza to watch the Italian life. The owner Ennio Stani was very kind and helpful too! The breakfast is served at the cafe downstairs at the Piazza and we had a great time there enjoying our Capuccino and "cornetto".

Another point is the location: the "Via dei Serpenti" is in the centre, close to everything (we even walked to Vatican City and Trastevere) but it's close by the Colosseum (you could see it from the Piazza in front of you). If you walk up to the Via Nacionale (away from the Colosseum) you will find fantastic italian restaurants, not expensive and the food is excellent. IN the same street we also found an "enoteca" to taste a glass of wine before dinner.

We had a wonderful time and if you don't want to spend your time in a big 5 star hotel you should go there: (--)
Hope to go back one day!
