Description: Glass Hostaria restaurant in Rome’s Trastevere quarter is an eye-full for lovers of superhot modern design. Set in one of Rome’s oldest, most atmospheric neighbourhoods, Glass Hostaria’s fabulous high-concept dining space with its soaring ceilings, open staircase, part-glass floor, sleek seating and stunning gold-filled niches contrasted with raw brick pillars and original beamed ceiling has won accolades and international attention. The Italian menu under the direction of Cristina Bowerman is an inventive balance of then and now, with dishes like starter of foie gras with caramelized bananas (yes, that’s right) and brioche, first course of risotto with oysters, crème fraîche and crunchy artichokes, second course of pork filet with quinoa, smoked tomatoes and orange sauce, and dessert of chocolate cake with rosemary ice cream. The tasting menus are good value and the wine list has over six hundred labels on offer. Hire of this venue would make a superb site for stylish launches or sophisticated parties. The service is excellent and, after dinner, Glass Hostaria turns into a wine bar, so you can linger on and on.

“Amazing food & a wonderful evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2012

We sat upstairs in the mezzanine, which gave us a nice overview over the entire restaurant. Despite rather cool materials (metal, glass) and a very modern feel, the atmosphere is very cozy.

We went for the 90€ tasting menu since it was a special occasion. Simply put, the food was truly amazing! With every one of the 9 dishes, the waitress or waiter briefly explained the ingredients. We were blown away by the tastes! Some very extremely delicate, others surprising but delicious combinations and some were simply totally new to me.

The staff was most helpful, discrete yet attentive, friendly, kind and with a light touch of humor that proved the restaurant didn't take itself overly seriously despite the impeccable reputation.

The sommelier was quick to recommend a wine based on our wish and it turned out exactly like we wanted it!

We spent 3.5 hours over dinner and by the time we left, the chef had stopped by to ask if we had liked the food and to thank us for coming.

I hope to have the chance to return some day again!

“Elegant and alternative cuisine in Rome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 December 2011

Glass is an elegant and modern restaurant, in the middle of Trastevere and its typical roman restaurants.
The staff is very kind and professional, with a strong preparation on wines and list.
Every dish is clearly explained, also in different languages for tourists.

The wine list is quite big, with a lot of very good Italian labels with also a good choice of years for each bottle.

Dishes are all prepared with originality and a tasty mix of ingredients.
Also description is alternative and smart: for example take care of "tagiatelle di seppia" because it is not pasta but fish with the shape of tagliatelle and a sauce of whisked pasta!

Finally, sweets and petit patisserie are fine and served very well.

Why not excellent?
Because our dinner was too long (we waited a lot between a dish and another)
and the price was definitely high, close to the average price of Michelin chef dinner.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 December 2011

Went there for the 3rd Time on Dec 13

The food is just amazing ! My friend had the most delicious lamb I have tasted in a long time. Tender, juicy and delicately spiced. My deer was in the same category.

Service was attentive and very knowledgable. The wine wie had (vineyard Piceh) . Ok., when we arrived at 8 pm we were the only guests but that changed within an hour. Highly recommmded

“good food, service needs improvement”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2011

Had a good evening here november 18th.
We had the tasting menu which cost 65 euro, well priced. Good foor for value.
The service wasn't that good. lost of different waiters, who talked a lot with each other but some things were very fast (15 minutes per course, we had to slow them down).
Others very slow.
We ended with 5 sweets, and i asked for coffee. We had to wait for a collegue waiter, waited 10 minutes and asked again far a cup of coffee. Wait for the special waiter was the message again.
5 minutes later the waiter came around. There is no coffee he told us. Because the smell of the coffee is strong and the tables might not like that.

Never heard that before. Weird that we had to wait 15 minutes for this stupid answer.
