“Spacious, clean, poor b'fast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 December 2011

Starhotel Excelsior in Bologna is in a good location about 10 minutes walk from city centre and very close to train station and buses. It is spacious, very clean and very quite. In the area one feels very safe. Spacious room. Ours was on the 7th floor. Breakfast not to a four star hotel standard. Some of the reception personnel were helpful while others were'nt that much. Free 30 minutes of wifi in reception area. But once you disconnect even after 10 minutes there is no chance of connecting again with the same password. We spent 4 nights in this hotel.

Just across the Bologna Centrale, the main railway station. A modern Hotel with clean rooms, very nice staff, good food. Even it is in the main road and is very noisy outside, in the hotel room it was a relaxing silence. We stayed just one night, but we feel very good.

Nice clean & comfortable hotel with a good bar & breakfast. My husband & I used Bologna/the Starhotel Excelsior as our travel base for a few weeks of travel in the region so its proximity to the train station (the best way to get around the region) help me select it from the many hotels in Bologna. Unlike of hotels near a train station this one is quite, clean, & I felt safe walking in the area day or night. While in Bologna it turns out to be a perfect location because it is a short walk (5mins or less) to the heart of the city; the city offers amazing food, in-door/out-door food markets, beautiful churches everywhere, loads of shopping, too much good wine, & a funky street market with handcrafts/flea-market goods. The city is full of history & energy so my husband & I spent hours walking the many streets...music & art.

Room Tip: The hotel is willing to baby sit a few bags without issue while you go out on the town, we made use...

This is a great hotel just across the road from Bologna's main railway station, which is also the place where the shuttle bus from BLQ airport arrives. The hotel is bright, airy, and modern and the rooms are spacious and well-furnished. About the only thing I didn't like is the poor wireless Internet service in the rooms - we had to go down to the lobby to be able to access the Internet. Being tired when we arrived, we ate in the hotel restaurant. The meal wasn't as good as we had elsewhere in other Bolognese restaurants but it was certainly tasty and more than acceptable, as was the buffet breakfast the following morning. It's a walk from the hotel to the tourist area of Bologna but the walk is not too far and it's very pleasant, so that shouldn't be taken as a negative for the hotel (besides, you can always take the bus).

Room Tip: A room to the rear will prevent noise from the busy road opposite the railway station (lots of buses...

We were consigned to a "corridor" room on the first floor, seemed to be the kind of room the staff would sleep in, we could hear the water running throught the pipes all night, as we found these pipes ran above the roof outside the room.
We looked at the other floors and there was no other room in the corridor. Would have been nice for a better room considerig we were staying two nights, they advised on check in we had booked for 3 people when we said two they agreed yet the room was set up for 3, i double bed and a fold down couch....The front desk staff were indifferent on check in.
We stayed at Star hotels in Tirano and it was so much better.
The breakfast guests were treated with a hearty "buongiorno", we were just ignored every morning infact we were never asked our room number and could have just walked in off the street.....With the money we paid, perhaps someone can go out and buy a toaster?

Room Tip: Be Italian

We spent one night in this hotel, as a result of a very good offer on bookings.com. For the price we paid (indeed, even for much more) we received a superb return - a hotel in a perfect location for arrival and departure - directly opposite the train station, and with a Hertz outlet literally around the corner. In addition, the buffet breakfast was excellent, and the staff in the hotel were unfailingly helpful and courteous; we must make special mention of Andrea, the manager who checked us in and out - he was efficient, polite and charming, and kindly recommended a good restarant (sorry - I can't recall the name!) and booked it for us. The centre of the city is an easy and very pleasant walk away. We would stay in this hotel again without hesitation. PS We were upgrade to a lovely room which had a king size bed wich was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in!!

Room Tip: The hotel will do their best to meet any requirements - eg. quiet room.

Very convenient location across the street from railway station and aoerobus. Felt a bit uncomfy due to very dressed up conference guest all over, but no problem actually. Room was nice, ordinary size and clean. The shower, however, was a tragedy (2nd floor), water all over the floor due to a big construction error. We were told not to warry, the maid would shuffle the water away! Few nice restaurants around and a bit too long to walk for dinner in the centre.
