It's a fairly easy 10 minute or so walk from the train station to Il Canale, which was convenient for us as we were only here for one night. The hotel is quaint and clean, the breakfast was great, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Bonus: they have an elevator, which was a welcome reprieve after visiting several Italian towns in which we had to haul our luggage up and down many flights of stairs.

This hotel is very centrally located for both the railway station and the historic centre of Bologna. It is set in a very quiet street just off the main thoroughfare and backs onto the canal which can be seen from the breakfast room. The graffiti in the area was a little off putting but it felt very safe to walk.
We received a warm and friendly reception on arrival and the staff were very pleasant, helpful people who always gave a cheery greeting. It was nice to have a kettle in the room and we bought extra coffee sachets from Contada supermarket which is just a little further along the same street, then opposite the T junction.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, not a great view but that really did not matter. Breakfast had a reasonable choice and as well as a machine for some coffee/hot water individual coffees were available on request. The artefacts on show in the hallways were like a mini museum in itself. I was especially taken by the collection of biscuit tins and I'm still coveting the Casablanca one with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

This hotel was reasonably priced and in the heart of the old town minutes away from the tourist attractions and restaurants. We had a lovely warm welcome from Francesca and she was eager to share with us information and maps and recommend excellent restaurants to us. The hotel is quirky and clean and comfortable and we had a nice large family bedroom which was on ground floor, perfect for a disabled or older guest as bathroom had handrails and wet room shower. Breakfasts had a good choice of cereals, fruit, jams, cheese, toast and meats, and freshly made coffee of your choice. We were made to feel welcome and had a lovely stay.,
We would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Downstairs family room good for elderly or disabled as well as family.

Exceptional welcome and service. Giuseppe goes out of his way to make sure your stay goes as smoothly as possible, taking all the usual travel stress away. A lovely, small, quaint hotel in a perfect location.
Already re-booked for next year.
