I have to admit, when we arrived outside the apartment we thought the area looked a bit run-down, with graffiti and pot-holed pavements not being what we were expecting to find.
We did grow to like it over time, though. Like much of Italy, it has its own charm that shines through any surface imperfections once you get to know it. The little square down the road is pleasant with open air seating around the bars and restaurants and a nice, laid-back feel to it, there's a good pizzeria nearby, plenty of little supermarkets in easy walking distance, and the locals in the shops around the piazza were all very friendly and helpful (even though my Italian is almost non-existent).
The location is also very convenient for buses going up to Miramare or Barcola, to the seafront or to the rest of the city.
The apartment itself is comfortable, clean and well-equipped. It had everything we needed for self-catering and the little touches provided by the owners were very welcome. Thanks for the coffee especially - we enjoyed it so much we bought a moka pot of our own to take home with us! We appreciated having a washing machine and air conditioning as well, and these both made our stay much more comfortable.
Sergio was great with helping us to settle in and giving us tips for getting about and finding things to do in Trieste.
We loved swimming at Bagno Ausonia and Miramare, and both were easy to get to, with buses departing from 8-10 minute's walk away. Along with lots of great pizza and ice cream to choose from nearby, it all made for a very nice week.
We spent here a weekend in June.
Well equipped apartment, plenty of space, host very kind and helpful.
Less positive points:
Parking a bit hard to find, second bedroom quite noisy (inner and outside noises), walking to the center a bit longer than expected, yet feasible.
Owner met us at the building front door even though our arrival was delayed from 3PM to midnight because a flight delay messed up connecting flight. A bottle of wine and bottles of water also welcomed us. He is very attentive and makes regular contact visits with offers to show us around during our one month stay.
We do this annually in various European cities. This turns out to be among the better apartments at a lower price.
