We are at the end of the first week holiday to Italy (Lake Como and Bergamo, Malta, Gozo and Sicily. It is also our wedding anniversary as we stay at this hotel and dine at their excellent restaurant. Over the many years I have been absolutely privileged to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my dear wife there have been many happy memories including Raffles in Singapore a few years ago.

But this evening and the stay at Relais San Lorenzo has made life so difficult for next year. Let me try to explain.

The drive to the hotel through the very narrow streets was memorable and embarrassing. Unless booked into the hotel it is not possible to get this close to the old city centre. When arriving at the hotel there is the immediate impact of the historical blending with the modern. How right they proved to be. The welcome was perfect as was the modern room with wonderful views. After settling in the drink on the terrace set the scene for a perfect day.

This evening we dined at their restaurant Hostaria. It is impossible to improve on the ambiance. The owner discovered Historic ruins under his hotels and opted to embrace this challenge by integrating into the restaurant. An awesome site to beyond. However, rather than just concentrating on this archaeological gem the owner opted to Implement a first class restaurant. The young lady who is restaurant manager gave 1st class service with very helpful recommendations. The cuisine was made up of works of art and the service was exceptional, having dined at 1,2 and 3 Mitchelin star restaurants the visit to Hostaria and indeed Hotel San Lorenzo was unforgettable. So what to do next year? Return here of course!!

An excellent experience here. I came for an aperitif and dinner. In-between, the staff went out of their way to show me around, most notably where the hotel was built amid some historical excavations - a unique architecture indeed. Dinner was excellent - the staff recommended some noted dishes and local wines to pair with the cuisine. Very caring and attentive to detail. Even the bathrooms are well designed such that everything was so well planned for a unique experience for the guests. The staff truly cared about everyone's overall experience in the restaurant and outside.

This hotel is good to stay for only 2 days i think its enough to see the basilica and the near attractions then leave! theres no gym and swimming pool and very limited choices from the dining menu and also the food was salty and not tasty ! and they didn't provide complementary water in rooms i have to ask them every time to bring some water after back from a hot day tour and they bring only one bottle! after this i had to go the the nearest shop to buy some natural water every day.
anyway first time in this hotel and never back again.
