We wanted something authentic, local, with a good atmosphere...and we stumbled on it here. The welcome was terrific. This is a family run trattoria for several generations. Their mission is to take in the tired and hungry and feed them. Apparently it all started with the grandmother who would feed newly weds who had come to the mountains above Lake Como for their honeymoon break. It would be common for the newly weds to be fed to the point where they could not walk and would stay overnight. We started with local cheese, so fresh it could moo..and of course cured meats. The 3 polenta dishes with Gorgonzola, Taleggio and one with garlic and butter were delicious. We were assured that their own "alpine butter" was not the same coronary plugging butter that you find elsewhere, but full of anti-oxidants and actually GOOD for the heart. Such was their kindness at the point of this earnest assertion that I, for one, believe them. Washed down with a carafe of cheap yet good red wine....we were replete. Then they served the meat courses. A wonderful local preserved salty sausage type meat and tender slow cooked braised beef in a rich sauce. Had we a white flag we would have surrendered, yet somehow we still found room for a georgeous apple fruit cake for pudding.
