“Fantastic hotel!”
Reviewed 18 July 2011

We got a good half-board deal at this hotel and so were a little anxious to see what we would get for our money. We were very impressed from the moment we arrived.

The hotel is incredibly clean and the staff are very efficient at housekeeping regularly. It is well air conditioned and has a very pleasant and spacious foyer area and bar. The pool is nicely laid out, is very private thanks to a large hedge and catches the sun all day long! The water is clear and the whole pool area is kept litter free and is cleaned each evening. The food is amazing. We had an extensive buffet in the morning and 5 course meal every evening. Gorgeous meals. Other guests we met all thought the same. The dining room was a little dated but a nice enough area. We had a ground floor room with garden terrace, again very private and quiet. We loved it. This was the most basic room. Others above have balconys. The room was basic but clean and comfortable with a tv. Not many English channels but who goes on holiday to watch tv anyway!!

Situated right on the base of the peninsula is a great location and they offer a shuttle bus regularly throughout the day that is free to-and-fro to the tip of the peninsula. We loved the immediate area as its so close to the lake and Colombare round the corner offers good shops (5 min walk).

There are great excursions and walks all in the vicinity and you can do as much or as little as you like. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this hotel and Lake Garda in general is beautiful place to go. We hope to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are pool side but the pool tends to be fairly quiet and closes in the evening

We took a late booking with Thomsons and choice was fairly limited but we could not have picked a better hotel for our first visit to Lake Garda. We did pay the addidtional supplements for the refurbished lakeview rooms, having been tipped off by friends that accomodation in Italy can be quite basic at 4* and it was certainly well worth the extra cost. Whilst the room was by no means luxurious, it was more than adequate with good wardrobe space, comfy bed and good balcony. The bathroom had recently been refurbished to a high standard and the hotel throughout was spotlessly clean. We had a fabulous view from our west facing room (250) looking onto the lake with the Gardone Riviera on the far shore together with a stunning view of the Sirmione peninsular and its castle - lovely sunsets! All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and as mentioned by other reviewers the food was excellent, varied and plentiful and served with a smile by all the staff (especially Marco!).
There is so much to see and do. Colombare and Sirmione are doable on foot, bike or bus and the castle and catullo in Sirmione are well worth a visit. Desenzano and Peschiera are close by (though not walking distance unless you are a very keen walker) and each town is different in its own way so you always get that sense of discovering another 'little gem' wherever you go. We were out and about every day and further afield Verona is a must and for 6 euros each take the lift to the top of the Lamberti tower for stunning city views. Similarly we had our first trip to venice and it is magical, all the more so we feel as we did the Venice by Night trip with Thompsons (you leave Venice at 10pm). The guide was excellent and it is true that at 5pm you can visibly see the crowds returning to Lido and the cruise ships and the city becomes far less crowded. For 8 euros each we went to the top of St Marks Tower at 8.30pm to watch the sunset (it closes at 9pm) and the views were magnificent. In both towers if you are there on the 1/2 or hour the bells ring out and again its an experience not to be forgotten. The guide did warn us about the cost of using the cafes in St Marks Square and its eyewateringly expensive - you even get charged for the music. Quite by chance (we needed to use the facilities!) we had a coffee INSIDE one of the squares cafes and all beverages inside were normal prices with no add ons and yet you still had more or less the same view and atmosphere. There are better cafes/restaurants in Venice with far more atmosphere and most offered a very reasonably priced set menu meal. We did the gondola trip with the tour guide and this was our only disappointment. cost was 18 euros each/6 persons to each gondala and the canals were very crowded with gondolas (think M25) so it was a bit of a procession, with no real views to speak of. In addition there was alot of loud banter between the gondalieri and if you can understand Italian it was mainly about the 'standard' of the lady tourists!.

All in all a great holiday and we will definitely be visiting Lake Garda again and would not hesitate to stay at the Du Parc hotel.

Room Tip: if you dont have a lake view room use the terrace on the top floor - same views and table/chairs set...

I booked this as a last minute break for myself and my mother (36 & 65 years old). We requested a pool side room. We arrived Sat 11 June around 6pm. The room was clean and spacious but was at the front of the hotel, not the pool side. We went for evening meal and eventually went to bed. However, there is a cafe nearby which played music VERY loud. We asked the next day if it was every night, to which we were informed it was only Saturday nights. We decided we could live with that as we only had one more Sat night and would be leaving the Sat morning after that. The music was on Wed & Fri night. We asked to be moved on Sat morning as lots of people left that day. We were informed that it wasn't possible as people arriving had pre-booked their room from previous stays at the hotel! We said that not every single person could be a repeat customer. Eventually, the receiption staff arranged for us to move to the room across the corridor which was overlooking the garden at the back of the hotel. It was much quieter.

This hotel is lovely, very clean and spacious. The breakfast is a buffet style with plenty of fruit, cheese, ham, yoghurt, cereal, toast/bread etc. They had boiled and scrambled eggs on every day and to go with this was either mushrooms, and mini hot dog style sausages, or tomatoes or bacon. There was always plenty to eat even for the most fussy eater.

The evening meal was lovely. You help yourself to a salad bar, then they brought you something, either a flan, a vol-u-vont style savoury or similar. You then pre-order (at breakfast) the following two courses. This was either pasta or soup, followed by main course which consisted of a choice of fish, meat (chicken, steak, veal, pork). The main course wasn't like an English meal as it usually only had a few carrots with the chicken, or potato croquettes with the steak etc. However, this was then followed by a large choice of deserts so you definitely didn't go away hungry!. We also received a bottle of red or white wine and a large bottle of still or sparkling water every evening.

The pool was lovely and quiet. It was nice not to have to get up at stuid o'clock to reserve a sunbed as this is a resort where people are out on trips or sightseeing so there were always plenty of sunbeds and parasols, even if you had been out all day and wanted a dip in the pool late afternoon.

The hotel is located about 40 mins walk out of Sirmione (it was too hot to walk too fast!) The hotel runs a shuttle bus service. They added more times to run it more often the second week we were there. However, they run it in the morning until around 12ish and again around 5 to 9pm. There is a public service bus but this stops running around 9.30pm so you have to either taxi or walk back if you go late after your evening meal. It is a safe place though and I never felt vulnerable or threatened at any time.

Check the bus times as they run about 1 an hour and quite infrequent on a Sunday! We got the bus into Desenzano to the market on Tuesday and back so it is possible and people are willing to help. Buy you tickets for the bus from a Tabacco store, they're more in the hotel. We bought ours on the bus, again, more expensive, however, only about 20 cents more so it won't break the bank!

We got the ferry from Sirmione to Salo which cost 7.50 euros one way each. Mum could have got a reduced rate as she is over 60 by showing her passport, however we went on Sunday and this doesn't apply then!

Columbare is the little village area nearest to the hotel which is nice to walk to and have a coffee or browse the few shops. Go out of the hotel car park, turn right and right again and keep going for 5 - 10 mins, you'll find them! Also cheaper here for food/drinks than in Sirmione.

If you go right out of the hotel to the main road, then left, then down the steps to the lake side there is a lovely walk along the lake. You could even sunbathe there as the locals do at the weekend on the grass and swim in the lake.

The trips are quite expensive, this is what we spent most of our money on. From the Thomson rep the prices are: Venice 62 euros each (I think it was cheaper at the time of booking the holiday in the UK, around £53??), Verona 32 euros each (although this was a free trip when booking the holiday and provided by the hotel), lake tour 42 euros each, Dolomites 49 euros each. There are not a lot of tour shops outside the hotel in the resorts as there are in Spain etc so you are quite tied to these prices if you want to visit places.

We went on the lake tour which is quite good to get a view of all the area around the lake. We also visited Verona and Venice. On the Venice trip there is also an option to go on a gondola for 18 euros each and a ferry trip around the lagoon for 13 euros each.

Overall, Lake Garda is a lovely place to visit but take plenty of spending money!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool/rear of the hotel room!

Just returned from our first trip to the Italian Lakes. Booked the Lake Garda Choice with Thomsons. On arrival we were allocated the Du Parc. What a good choice. We arrived around 11 am and only had to wait 10 minutes for our room. Very friendly staff . Five course dinner with wine and water every evening included in our half board booking. Lovely pool with towels provided. Good access to buses to reach other towns and ferry connections. Courtesy bus into sirmione but you can walk it in approx 30minutes. Will certainly return to the Lakes but perhaps a different area ans their is so much to see. Hope our next hotel is as good.

We booked this hotel as a last minute deal which was also recommended by friends who had stayed previously.
As many people wrote it is out of the main area but the hotel runs a shuttle bus to the old town which we used on a number of occassions. We also hired the bikes and cycled into Dezenzano which took around an hour. The path was mainly along the lakeside but we needed to cut onto the road a few times due to the beach area having private areas..
The hotel was spotless and the staff very friendly and approachable. Marco in the resturant could not have been nicer and was always up for a witty remark or joke.
The rooms were well equiped although basic and had a small fridge which we used to store water and fruit.
The breakfast was plain and quite repetative but adequate at the price we paid. There is a five course meal at night and you are required to order the main two courses at breakfast time. The choices were varied and the food was of a fairly good standard. Each evening you are also supplied with a complementary bottle of red or whits wine and a bottle of water. This itself helps to keep the cost of ther holiday down as there was no bar bill every evening.
We went to the opera one night and missed dinner. However the hotel made up two complementary packed lunches for us. Although they were basic it was another fine touch.
The area around the lakes is very beautifull but as there is no day ticket for the ferries available they can be very expensive. A round trip to Garda would cost around 30 euros and a round trip to Malchesnie around 50 euros. This was using the slow ferries.
All in all a very good holiday and we may well return to the hotel and area in the future.

Staff friendly and helpful, food varied, good choice and well cooked. Hotel very clean and comfortable. Yes it is a good 35 minute walk from Sirmione but there is a courtesy bus if required. Also found the hotel and surrounding area serene and calm as the Sirmione streets are very busy.
