“Return to Du Parc”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2011

Our third visit to Du Parc. The Hotel is in a quiet location with regular public transport to Verona or Brescia and all points in between. The Hotel shuttle bus is ideal for going into Sirmione to avoid the pleasant 20 minute walk. Colombare has plenty of cafes and other stores and is literally around the corner.

All the staff are as helpful as ever and everywhere in the Hotel is exceptionally clean.

Good quality food with varied menus for the evening meals with free water and good wine.

We will be back.

My wife and I stayed in Hotel Du Parc at the end of August and I must say that we have nothing but praise for it.The food every morning and evening was always excellent as was the packed lunch when we were going on a tour of Venice. Please everybody try the tirimsu!! it is to die for!!!.I think that the one feature that sets this Hotel from the rest is the staff. From the staff at the check in desk to the maids in the cleaning the rooms,I cannot speak highly enough of them. All the waiters in the reasturant ( just mention The Dark Side of the Moon) to one of the waiters for extra helpings!!.Just visit and enjoy

I wasn't sure what to expect when we booked into the Hotel Du Parc, Sirmione/Columbare, as the brochure does not give it justice. This is a reasonably small hotel where all of the service was excellent. The choice and standard of the food was exceptional, complimented, at dinner with a free bottle of wine and water.
It is situated about a 30 minute walk from the centre of Sirmione but a regular free minibus is available, how regular depends on the day of the week, less on a weekend.
I must give a special mention to the staff and especially Fernando, nothing was a problem.
It is built near other buildings but this does not detract from the cosy atmosphere.
There are enough sunbeds for everyone.
The organised trips were excellent with plenty to see and the Verona visit was free from this hotel.
I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Best rooms for a view of the lake are 246 to 250.

We have just returned from a week at the Du Parc near Sirmione. The hotel is clean, friendly and the food is excellent. (A little too good, now back on the diet!). The location was a concern beforehand having read reviews about how far from Sirmione town centre was however, the courtesy bus ran regularly throughout the day and the local bus was just 4.80 Euros for 4 of us back to the Du Parc, But the area itself where the Du Parc is situated is about 3 mins walk to a lovely lakeside sunbathing area with windsurfing, canoeing and peddalos available, so don't be put off. (incidentally, the walk from Sirmione to the hotel is around 35 mins at a pleasant amble). Good location also for visiting Venice and Verona, which we did also. In all one of the nicest holidays I have ever had, a sentiment also agreed by the rest of the family which include a 17 and 15 yr old. I would definitely return.

We stayed at Hotel du Parc for one week in late July and had a wonderful time. We had a fantastic view of the lake from our room, and the room was immaculate and looked as if it had been recently decorated. Dressing gowns and beach towels were provided.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and could speak English sufficiently well. The restaurant staff were particulaly nice.

The food really was excellent - you choose your dinner whilst at breakfast and you get 5 courses. Everything I ate was lovely; even things I am not normally too fond of. It is refreshing not to have a buffet for dinner and there was always several choices to choose from.

The pool was nice and we managed to get a lounger everyday we wanted one, although I would say a trip to the beach is well worth it as the lake water is much warmer!

The hotel is located a good paced 20 to 30 minutes from the centre of Sirmione. There are a few shuttle buses from the hotel but none run in the afternoon and the last one back is 8.45pm so its likely you will have to walk one way at least. I wouldn't recommend the hotel if you have problems walking - just because it is not centrally located. You need to get to Sirmione for the ferries around the lake. (but not if you want to go to Verona, there is a bus stop near the hotel the bus goes past).

That said, im glad it wasn't. Sirmione can be overwhelmingly busy and it is nice not to be there all of the time and be able to escape far enough away from the masses of tourists that descend there.

Overall we were impressed with the hotel and would recommend it.

We went to Du Parc in summer 2008, loved it and so returned this year. The transfer from Verona was less than an hour. Again the service and rooms were fantastic. One main reason we stayed here again was the excellent food which again surpassed expectations. Breakfast is a buffet style with a huge selection of pastries, bread, cheeses, jams etc. Dinner is a 5 course delight: salad bar (perhaps the only thing not as good this time), starter, pasta course, main course and a selection of desserts every evening (try the tiramisu!!!!). Along with that we had a complementary bottle of sparking (still also available) water and either red or white wine each evening.
We never used the hotel pool, preferring to swim in the lake either in Columbare or Sirmione, but we did sit there when we got in a couple of times and there are plenty of loungers at all times of the day, and papers and books in various languages in shelves in the bar area.
On the top floor there is also an outside area where you can sit and have a drink, play cards etc and see the lake and towns in the distance. We sat there for 3 hours watching the most amazing lightning storm I've ever seen!
Columbare, where the hotel actually is, has a cute little craft market on a Friday evening (it wasnt mentioned in our Thomson's info so I dont know if lots of people are aware of it) selling soaps, paintings, jewellery, bric-a-brac, crafts etc. You can hire pedalos and canoes down at the beach in Columbare; I'd recommend water shoes if you're going in - the bottom is pretty rocky in parts.
There is a bus from the hotel into Sirmione (a half hour walk - lovely though) up until about 12.30 and again from 5. The first time we were there we never used the bus, but this summer was so hot we used it a couple of times. It does seem to run on Italian time, maybe 5-10 mins outside the time it should be there, but it will turn up! If you do walk, look out for geckos on the white rocks along the riverside. When we visited there were loads of them basking on the rocks, running to hide in nooks and crannies etc.

Sirmione is a beautiful place - again at the beach down there you can hire pedalos, canoes etc. Look out for the swans on the tiny shore round the walls of the castle, they are really tame and come up to get fed if you have any leftover icecream cone, bread etc. The castle has lovely views from the top but the highlight for us was the Roman Ruins. They are amazing and cover a really wide area - we easily spent 2 half days there. And only 4 euros entry!!! The entrance to the town past the castle can seem incredibly busy but once you are through there the throng seems to disperse.

We also went on a ferry trip to Garda. Again, the ferry there seemed to run on Italian time and was 30 mins late, but we might have just been unlucky and there had been a problem, as the ferry back was on time. Garda was another flower filled little town, surrounded by stunning mountains and had lovely streets with bars, shops etc. Other people we spoke to in the hotel had been to Gardone which they said was lovely too.

There are lots of tours on offer of course. We went with Thomson Lakes and went on Venice By Night. I would definately recommend it. You miss dinner (if you are half board) but if you tell the hotel the night before they will give you a packed lunch: couple of rolls, fruit, yogurt and carton of wine. Our tour guide didn't know this (so we had already bought extra food for tea from the supermarket in Columbare) but you get the option, for 18 euros, to have dinner in Venice, not including drinks. Venice is mega expensive so that seemed like good value; if we'd known we would have opted for that. You might get the option to do a lagoon tour, 13 euros. It wasn't great - I preferred the gondola we did the last time.

Our travel agent had not passed on request for pool view room. The receptionist was most helpful and after 1 night (it was republica day) moved us to a better room.
All the staff were 1st class, striking a perfect balance between formality and friendliness. The food was superb, Marco in the restaurant was great, a real personality (non mi piace finnochio) entertainment limited but Friday night guitarist was excellent, (had a good chat with him in English/Italian/Sign). Would not hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: Get a pool view room if you can
