Had a very good week at the Hotel Eden. The hotel is traditional italian style. Is very clean and the staff all friendly and helpful. We had a spacious and comfortable room at the rear of the hotel on the second floor which had a pleasant view of the old clock tower and mountain. Breakfast and dinner was taken on warmer days on the new promenade pavement on the lake shore and was wonderful for guests and visitors. Dinner was three courses of lovely homecooked food.
Tips: seafood ravioli was yummy
bus just a few yards away to stresa and Mottorone cable car.
Boat station a few yards away to islands, stresa and Verbana
Clock does not chime until 8 in morning and stops at 9:30 in the evening

Room tip: second floor for better views of lake or garden

Fantastic hotel and restaurant. Very
friendly and helpful staff. Lovely room with lake views. Very clean.
Great choice at breakfast. Near to cafes and bars and lake boat trips from the pier to the islands.

As a customer service manager, I must say this hotel really is one of the worst I have encountered. I would like to provide a balanced review:

LOCATION: Whilst the hotel is well situated, it seems they are relying fully on the recent renovation of the hotel alone, to attract and satisfy guests, with minimal effort upon all other fronts.

"FREE" PARKING... there is no clear signage at all to indicate parking... after frustratingly searching around the one way streets for 30 mins, we temporarily parked outside and went in the hotel to quickly ask at reception, where the staff member was more concerned with abruptly demanding our passports and reservation details, with no welcome. Turns out parking consists of 3 odd spaces up a small street on a steep incline, and 2 other spaces outside a church, again very dodgy looking, or alternatively, on the side of the road (small area where all of the public were apparently free to use)... we got a ticket on the last day, which the hotel staff refused to reimburse or take responsibility for.

CLEANLINESS: overall was good- cleaners were the most pleasant of all the staff. HOWEVER, what I was disgusted to find was that they do not put the duvet inside a linen case, they just loosely wrap a sheet around it, which ultimately becomes loose during the night and you’re left with a used duvet over you, which we found discoloured with old hairs on... lovely surprise in the morning. But the shower was good. Bathroom appeared clean.

"MOUNTAIN" VIEW- well... it’s part mountain, part recycled rubbish tip from prominent neighbouring apartments. The windows are tiny also, and the church bells were very loud in the morning (in addition to the paper thin walls, stomping noise from the stairs and other guests).

BREAKFAST- only until 9:30 and very limited/basic. As I’m not a huge coffee fan I just wanted hot water with tea, which they would only give me from the coffee machine and tasted like coffee. Just horrible. The bread wasn’t fresh, ham and cheese looked as if it was bought at some cheap supermarket, "fresh juice" was most certainly not! Sugar water with colouring is my guess. You’re reminded constantly that you only have 15/20 Minutes, no welcome.

OWNERS- Could not be more disinterested and reluctant to help. They seem to have limited knowledge of the area, when we asked for recommendations, it was as if we had asked for the world. My partner asked a reception staff member, who was standing next to the kitchen, if he could fill up our water bottle with tap water as we couldn’t fit it under our small sink in the room, to which he asked the owner, and they responded that they would not and we must BUY WATER from them, they would not give us TAP WATER! One evening as I was walking out the hotel with the room key in my hand one of the owners literally SNATCHED it out my hand with no comment and just continued on to behind the reception to continue his private conversation with a colleague. Upon checkout there was no "how was your stay?" From the owners, They seriously could not care less. In addition, oddly enough, they would only accept cash to pay for additional "hotel taxes"...but perhaps that’s normal?

Dear Mister, firstly, we would like to thank you for having chosen our hotel for your stay in Baveno, and for the time that you have taken to write this comment. You forget to write that you bring away the food from breakfast to eat long the day for free, that you had in the room tea maker for free, that you had a late check-out for free and every day 2 cappuccino from the bar (not from the machine) also for free…anyway, we decide to answer you point by point.

BREAKFAST- No one has said that you must finish to have a breakfast until 9:30 but you need to arrive in the breakfast room until 9:30. Bread is fresh and it's delivered every morning. Fruit juices are buy only in the bottle and are not in powder or concentrated. Cold cuts is choice by high quality and we cut it in the morning and every time if need to replenished it. We don’t buy products or food from discount (with all respect towards these supermarkets). We could legally provide evidence through the invoices of purchase of products that we buy but we can’t publish it here. These accusations are unfounded, however, is very serious, it is not a simple opinion but a precise accusation and therefore constitutes a defamation and you, as a customers service manager, should know it.

PARKING- In regards the parking in our web site it is clearly written that there is public parking in the nearby. May be you can write to the Mayor if you want that in Baveno will change parking space and signal it better. Regard traffic penalty ticket we were very available: we gave you our personal phone number to send us the ticket and we translate and immediately explained you that you get a ticket from police because you parked in a wrong way. Like in Switzerland, you can’t park in the wrong direction because you cut the road when you must back in the car track. So we do not have any direct responsibility here.

LOCATION- We work every day with maximal effort to satisfy guests: if you read in the olta system reviews written in the same days that you stay in our hotel are all very well, just your is bad. What do we think about this? We love criticism only when are constructive and true. Per example: last year we have renewed a room and the day that we re-opened for the season a guest that stay one night wrote (in olta review system) that there wasn’t a place to put jackets in the room: really we forgot to install it because we changed all in the room, also door, and we forgot to install coat hanger.

CLEANLINESS- Thanks for congratulations to the cleaning rooms staff. About Duvet are new: they can’t be discoloured. The duvet is enclosed in two sheets: one above and one below. If, as you say, during the night it has moved, it is probable that the hair was those of the lady with long hair. In many hotels, also 4 stars, the duvet is used in this way: positioned between two bedding sheets.

"MOUNTAIN" VIEW- You have booked and you stay in a lake view room. How can you judge mountain view from other rooms? From your room you can’t see garbage because our deposit garbage is at the back in a specific area because we make recycling waste . Regarding windows there are new and not tiny: in your room there are 2 windows and one door window! About church bells are typical of Italy and the church bells rings from 8 to 21, not during the night. But we can speak about your problem with the Priest.

OWNERS- We know the area very well, we live here and also my family lives in Baveno since 1907. About the key is required precisely, and it is written in the book of information in the room and also in the hall, that you must deposit the key to the reception when you go out. Taxes are not hotel taxes but city taxes. We collect this tax for the town. Therefore we decide that fees has to be paid cashed by guests and guests know it in advance.

We had a very nice week in the hotel, it's very well positioned on the lake,a few metres from the ferry,bus stops and 5 minutes from the train station.
The hotel itself was very, very clean and although basic our room was a reasonable size and we slept well. It could however really do with being
The restaurant was reasonable, breakfast was a good variation all quite basic but enough variety. A reasonable selection for dinner and it was all very tasty and well cooked, but portion sizes were small and presentation was VERY school dinner style.
We (and other guests) found the bar area was soulless, and getting more use as an extension to the hotel family
room, which was a shame as we all then chose to use other bars for an evening drink.
We personally had a good relationship with the hotel staff, but did observe and heard a few instances were customers were being 'told off' for some minor indiscretion. I know some of this was due to language issues, but it was occasionally blunt. And don't forget 'the customer is always right'.
Overall we had a good week, and the basics were good, food, clean bed, hot water BUT it is 3 star and you get what you pay for.

I can only rate food as presented to Guests. Compared to food served to non-residents it was awful!. Made worse when,most of the time a non-resident was sitting at the next table. The non-resident food LOOKED better but no great compliments were overheard.
The breakfast menu was buffet as expected and unremarkable.
