Nice location for a historic hotel stay

Review of Regina Palace
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 29, 2024via mobile
Pros- great location, beautiful interior. We had a room for 3 that was adequate for size with a balance with an amazing view of the lake. Bathroom is updated and good water pressure. Bar downstairs is very nice and we enjoyed aperitif there several evenings, plus midday toast and caffe.
Cons- not a lot of information shared about breakfast and amenities, had to figure out ourselves. Parking is $20 a day and there is no good exit after parking- you have to walk back up the ramp.
Overall lovely stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our tour and were sadly unimpressed. Our room was compact and small dated bathroom in need of a complete refurbishment. I understand they want to retain the old style glamour but not if it compromises on comfort. The breakfast was average compared to what we had just experienced in Lake Garda. The staff were very indifferent and seem like they are fed up with groups. We didn’t use any of the facilities and ate out in the town. We stayed in the Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromées just close by last year which also retains a lot of its old charm but they know how to do it perfectly and with quality. Far superior hotel.

This hotel is a step back in time. It is very palatial, the service is amazing, four course dinner every evening is fantastic as is breakfast. There is an indoor grotto pool, heated, which is absolutely brilliant if you have inclement weather or don't want to be out in the sun by the fantastic outdoor pool set in beautiful gardens. Right on the lakeside, 10mins from the ferry, you couldn't ask for more. To update this hotel to more modern decor would be a tragedy, it should be appreciated for the elegance that it brings.

This hotel has walls as thin as paper. You can hear everything in the rooms around and above you. Whenever the people upstairs walked around, our chandelier shook. It is also unbearably hot. They turn the air-con in the rooms off in October but turn the heating on. It’s like sleeping in Bali. They turned our heating off but it was still uncomfortably hot and we couldn’t open the windows as there are still mosquitoes about. We didn’t get a decent nights sleep all week. I would not go back.

Bedroom was compact and the bathroom even more so. No cotton wool as a complimentary supply in the bathroom . Very aged rooms though downstairs was full of old glamour. Breakfast wasn’t the best. No mushrooms with the fried offerings and no fresh fruit all seemed tinned apart from the melon and no seeds. The pastries were delicious. Trading on its status?. Staff ok but not very welcoming

Great location, great staff, excellent food. Garden is exceptional. Rooms were comfortable, clean and well kept. Staff in the restaurant and the bars were friendly and very attentive. The only slight criticism that you could make is that the reception is a little small with only being manned by at most 2 people.
