Lake Maggiore

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 24, 2023
Nice hotel with Good food, Good service and spotlessly clean. However, although the hotel kindly gave me their best single room on the 4th floor, which is really on the third floor. It was right by the very busy, noisy main road and traffic lights and the fumes from all of the motorbikes, cars, lorries and coaches. Therefore, it was impossible to sit out and relax on my balcony or have my door open from 6am in the morning to approx. 10pm at night, and all through the night on weekends. Which is a big disappointment, as I hoped to be able relax on my balcony during my two weeks holiday and enjoy the lovely views of the mountains and Mottarone, on the outskirts of Stresa. Especially, as I am disabled, in a great deal of pain and was travelling alone. Nevertheless, it was just a five minute walk from the hotel to Lake Maggiore and there were plenty of benches to sit on to enjoy the beautiful views. As well as to catch the local ferry boats to the Borromean Islands. It was so wonderful to return to Stresa by Lake Maggiore and the beautiful islands again. Which I first visited over forty years ago.

We spent 10 days at Hotel Flora , our second visit. A lovely friendly team looked after us so well again and I would highly recommend this as a base for exploring Maggiore area. The food at breakfast and evening is excellent and the staff were always concerned to make sure as a vegetarian that I was happy with my options- I always was! The hotel’s location is great for a short walk to the Carciano ferry stop and 20mins stroll to Stresa, it is on the main road around this side of the lake and there is road noise - not sure why this seems to surprise some visitors? It is family run and has a peaceful vibe which we love

Room tip: Great location for seeing the lake - ferry 5 mins, bus stop for Orta, Verbania etc on other side of the road, train station 15 mins

The reception staff were exceedingly rude and managed to ignore us most of the time. Our room faced the busy road and although the windows were closed it was impossible to sleep as the noise from cars racing up the main road constantly awoke us. The air conditioner did not work on cool so when we had the windows open to allow some cool air into the room we couldn’t hear the television over the noise of the traffic.
The room was clean and very basic.
Breakfast was standard fare and staff in the restaurant area were helpful and pleasant.
On checking out the lady on reception managed to handle the entire process without speaking a single word to us - yes we are English speakers but I also speak acceptable Italian. So incredibly rude. Overall a horrible experience and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Room tip: Book somewhere else.

My friend and I stayed at Hotel Flora for two weeks. when we arrives we were given a room with a step in the en-suite, unfortunately I fell down this in the night. We informed the owner the next day and asked for another room without a step (we are 78). We were told all the rooms had a step and there were none available.
We told our Tui rep Steph and she said she would speak to the owner. Next thing we were shown two rooms with flat floors to choose from.
The hotel was scrupulously clean and the girls who cleaned were so hard working and could not do enough for the clients.
The food was five star, we never came away from the table feeling disappointed - except the day my friend asked for a boiled egg for breakfast, which we had seen other people eating, she was told it would cost her 5 Euro's, super eggs perhaps. Rosanna our waitress and the lad who also waited on us Rapesh? were so friendly and helpful.
Rooms facing the road are noisy with the windows open or sitting on the balcony, but the double glazing is good and there is air conditioning in the rooms.
There is a pool which does not get too crowded and there are plenty of loungers and umbrellas although it's a bit of a trek across the car park and down steps.
The hotel is set about 3/4 of a mile out of Stresa a lovely walk along the coast path.
Stresa is a wonderful little town and the islands are a joy to visit.
If not for the problem with the room there would have been a higher rating. Other older people hopefully will not have the same problem.

Room tip: Ask for an en-suite with no step if you are older.

We spent 3 nights here in early July 2022.

It is an excellent small family owned and run hotel.

Breakfast was excellent. We did not eat dinner as we enjoyed walking into Stresa for dinner. Yes it is a 20 min walk into Stresa but for us this turned into a delightful 30 minute amble as we walked along the lakeside enjoying the gorgeous views.

The pool is small but perfectly adequate and never crowded.

As others have commented the hotel and its grounds were kept spotlessly clean.

The clientele is a mix of Italian German French and British with the hard working staff constantly juggling between languages.

We paid extra for a lake facing room. I would strongly recommend this as these rooms also face away from the road so are also much quieter.

Just a lovely hotel for an excellent price.

Room tip: Pay extra for a lake facing view. It is well worth it.

We spent 7 days at Hotel Flora and it was a joy, the hotel is spotlessly clean, the team work extremely hard, no stone unturned. The front of house were friendly and accomadting, the owners were, always viable and again nothing too much trouble.

We ate in the restaurant every night, the menu was varied with plenty of choice, every meal was delicious, served by a very attentive staff, the prices were good, a great wine selection again not overly expensive. Breakfast also gave a great choice and plentiful.
I would have no hesition in highly recommending this hotel.

Nearly forgot the views from our room - Awesome 😃

Room tip: 3rd & 4th floor rooms offered amazing views.
