“What a disappointment”
Reviewed 24 November 2010

During my stay I brought the following to the attention of the hotel without any form of resolution or satisfactory response, we had spent five weeks in Europe and this was the only hotel/accommodation that was poor- and it was supposed to be four star- the location and architecture and furnishings were four star, the remainder of the experience was so very very disappointing particularly the stealing of items from our room:

(i) I had AUD210 and GBP95 taken from our room and I need to submit a insurance report and the hotel provided no assistance ( i note that the loose coins were remaining- the Galleria thief must not like coins);

(ii) we had room service- my husband's club sandwich and chips was cold and that was EURO 46;

(iii) the room was very noisy with rubbish bin collections from 3 am- our room was several stories above without noise barrier

(iv) the shower in our room was absolutely filthy;

my wife and myself stopped at this hotel for the grand prix weekend we arrived at 1.45pm and were told or room was not ready and it would not be long so we had a coffee in the lounge 30 mins later aproxamailty a member of staff came and told us our room was ready originally we were told our room was on the3rd floor we were escorted to a room 208 on the 2nd floor i asked about the other room which we were alocated and was told we have change your room so you did not have to wait as long
the new room which i can only describe as porbably the worst room in the hotel was located to the rear of the hotel overlooking the back yard where all the bins for the surounding restaurants and bars were located
at this point i should have requested a different room but we had benn traveling since 3.30 am and were tiered so we unpacked and had a rest on the bed which was very comfortable we were just going to sleep when an almighty sound of glass was heard the bar downstairs was tipping the empty bottles into the bin this continued thoughout the day and late into the night on everyday monday morning it started about 6am
this was not the only problem there was also staff motor bikes arriving in the morning from 7am people would also gather there for a smoking break and would talk noisily
i can only presume we were given this room purposly to free up or original room for somone else as i am sure there would have been complaints about it prevously
the room itself could have been better the toilet flush was broken the mini bar was not full
the toilet roll holder was loose on the wall and the paint on the scurting boards in the bathroom was over painted onto the stained wood
there was no tea making facilty or iron for cloths the room was definatly not sound proofed as stated on the hotel website and the bedside lamp bulb had blown all not really a problem but for the standard of this hotel it should not be like this
the staff at the hotel were very very good
continental breakfast was also very good
location great
i would go again only not room 208

What is really top with this hotel is the unique location. It's difficult to be more central. This is one of the hotels that will split the public. The decor is , lets say, pretty dark and somehow minimalistic. Rooms are on the rather small side (not really 7*) so we switched to a suite. For a what they call a 7* hotel there is quite some work to do. In the bathroom three lamps on the ceiling where not working what did not seem to bother anyone. One of the faucet on the sink was loose. Sitting on the toilet without hearing all some kind of noises impossible , definitely another item that needs some fixing. Taking the shower in the morning it's kind of an adventure as no matter how you set the temperature it will switch to cold and hot so often that need a certain level of masochism to stay there for a longer period. The worst thing is the lighting. You have a main switch next to your bed that if turned of prevents you to switch the light on in the bathroom, an excellent thought especially when you have to go to the bathroom at night. You may ask why did you use this main switch ? first you don't know it's a main switch , but you'll learn it later the hard way second there is one lamp in the bedroom that you can't figure out how to it turn of if you don't use the main switch next to the bed. Next morning someone then tells you that you have to use a remote control to switch it of !! (creative idea .... one of the three remote controls that you spend fighting with to figure out how to use them)
The staff is very pleasant but sometimes the operation seems understaffed. We called the butler or the main switchboard several time with no one answering. It also could happen you would have to wait 5 or more minutes at the reception as the only present person was busy on the phone.

I would give the hotel a 4 1/2 stars or a max of 5 * but only if they make sure it's better maintained and fix the awkward unique ideas with the lightning and the water in the shower.
Breakfast was a highlight.

The hotel is in an excelent location right in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle, close to the Duomo and within walking distance of shopping areas. Room was confortable and decoration was very modern ans stylish. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only minor defect is that wi-fi was very slow. Otherwise, perfect stay.

What a wonderful experience! This hotel is located within Milan's famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. If King Vittorio Emanuelle would live again, he would be so proud and delighted to sleep inside his beloved Galleria. It has a truly unique location surrounded by the best brand names. For shopoholics such as me, bring a couple of credit cards with you, as temptation is all around you. The hotel is situated on top of Prada, across Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tod's, and the list just goes on.... This is not a typical hotel but rather a private residence which oozes elegance yet with friendly and attentive staff. Can my personal butler really read my mind? I found myself wondering a couple of times.... Prompt at 5pm, a classical concert in the center of the Galleria started, sponsored by the hotel. I was able to delight of the wonderful music, its surroundings while sipping my favourite tea. I shall return...!

The hotel is perfect located, the service of the employees is also very courteous! However, first jou have to go up with the lift to get to the reception, there is no lobby, no bar (just a few seats), no fitness, no pool! A bit poor for a five to seven star hotel! As we arrived in the room, the mini bar was almost empty, filled only with the half eaten cheese and ham sandwich from the former guest. The room (an non smoking room) smelled strongly from smoke (cigarettes) They apologized and sent us to the "bar" to have a drink while they wanted to do something in the room to get rid of the smell! Did not work! We complaint and got the promise to change the room the other day, because the hotel seemed to be full. Our room was connected with a door to another room and when the two ladys in the neighbour room were talking or doing their hair, it was as they were standing right in our room! The second night it was at least better! We were very disapointed also about the breakfast, but this is an other story!

Well, it is somehow difficult to review this hotel objectively.
1) You can't deny that it has great service and location
2) The style of the interior design might be personal, but I think that if you have the chance to stay in Milan you better go to the Bulgari or Chedi Hotel, more consistent and less kitsch! But that is personal and I do acknowledge that many people like it and that the old architecture is fantastic
3) What bugs me is that they say that they are a seven star hotel. They are not! Because as everyone should know stars are attributed based on infrastructure, not service level or attentiveness. This hotel does not have a pool!!! Every 5 star hotel needs to have a pool. They also do not have a Spa which also is demanded by today's discerning traveler. So that means the hotel can be a maximum of 4 stars.

To sum up. Great city hotel with great service and great location but the demand for 7 stars is just plain arrogant.

We thank you for your objectivity and your positive comments, as you mentioned, it is hard to make a judgment on such a beautifull monument who decided to host an hotel at his standard . The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is one of the most beautiful and visited monument of the city and it is the real centre of the city of Milano with no doubt . But because is a Monument so important it brings with it some restriction as we have to respect the history and the stile and a lot of details that can not be changed. One of them is that it is impossible to build a swimming pool and for that reason we take our guests with our bentley to the best club in town who has one.
