“The main tourist area in Venice, Italy with much history”
Review of St. Mark's Square

Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

So much history to learn (1500+ years) while visiting St. Mark's Square with beautiful cathedral, palace, and great cafes, live music every night and shopping/restaurants/bars. A great place to see the 100m tour (you can take elevator to the top for 8 euro).

My standing recommendation to anyone visiting Venice during the summer season is check out sites very early or very late. It is just too crowded and too hot and humid in the afternoon. Early morning is pre-tour group, and most tour-groups have gone by early evening.

This is obviously the main tourist destination in Venice. If your are staying in Venice I would strongly recommend going at sunrise one day. The plaza is empty and you will get amazing photo opportunities that you wouldn't get in the afternoon with a crowded plaza.

A wonderful place to just sit and absorb the atmosphere! Worth the 15 Euro for a bit of Frangelica to hear the music at the cafe and simply enjoy everything you see.

The biggest square in Venice and the most touristic place! Its a big square where located the Basilica of S. Marco, the Palazzo Ducale and many other beautiful architecture buildings. Its very romantic at night. There are many caffes like the famous Florian with live jazz and classic music, beautiful lights everywhere. You can take a gelato and have a walk.. Also there are many vaporettos to take you wherever you want. Its the city center of Venice.
