We visited in the height of the tourist season in June. The square is lovely. There are people and pigeons everywhere. We visited St. Marks Cathedral. It's beautiful inside but you can't really stop to enjoy as you are moved along.

One of the most important events of every day in Venice is finding the perfect caffe or gelato. We found them every day, almost always in the Piazza. The strains of classical music drifting across the square, the people strolling--it's heavenly.

33,000+ reviews already. Its probably the main attraction of Venice. Like any other main attraction in any City of the world it attracts criminals, so beware of pickpockets and keep your valuables safe. Full of Tourists and tour parties all going about their business. Impressive to look at and you will get some great photos. Plenty of overpriced tat that you can buy so you can tell friends you got it from St Marks square.
Do you need to be told that you could be possibly ripped off for your hard earned cash if you sit down at one of the places for a coffee in the square. Go elsewhere for your refreshment, don't give them the time of day.

People say that dreams come true in Venice...they do, mine has come...visiting this lovely city for the third time! You can feel history every step of the way...like reliving the lives of those noble men...those palaces and cathedrals are really worth seeing for several times and every time you will learn something new...don't miss this land of love, don't miss Venice!

Visiting Venice in a period of the worst flooding was a memory we won’t forget but neither will we forget the stunning views of the square, the basilica and the canal that make this a must see activity if you are going to Venice. The pavement cafes surrounding the square may look great and bands sound brilliant but are to be avoided unless you are a lottery winner....but walk 2 mins in any direction and you will find great value for money food and drink at decent prices

Spent a couple of hours enjoying the facilities around St Marks Square. Visiting the Basilica Di San Marco. Drinking coffee and listening to music, shopping for souvenirs lots to see and do. To listen to the wonderful orchestra, watch the passing parade while you have your coffee you pay 6 euros worth it, delightful.

Greatness and elegance! Try to allocate at least 2 days for the square, Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Cathedral, and observation deck located at the top of the Tower. Unfortunately, we had one day only, and were overwhelmed with all that beauty and historical facts. The cathedral deverses at least 5 hours long visit, so Doge's Palace does. I knew what to expect from the Palace, but I did not expect mosaics in the Cathedral to be so amazing. Observation deck has staning views. We did not have enogh time to digest that experience. Definitely will be back:)

On the bucket list to see the acqua alta (temporary flooding) but not too serious while we were there. Never got tired of walking through the piazza, must have done it 30+ times in the week. You can ignore the maintenance debris and the raised walkways by concentrating on the buildings.

Very picturesque place to visit, free to stroll around and not too many beggars and flower salesmen to trouble your peaceful evening

The center of Venice. Must visit either morning or later in the evening to avoid the crowd. Be aware of the shoplifter. Avoid buying souvenirs from from there as prices are incredibly high, you can get way cheaper inside the city.
