This was a great location for exploring Venice. Room was basic but fine - and nice to hear gondoliers singing beneath the window. Staff pleasant and friendly. Don't wear socks walking in the halls or to the bathroom though as floors were pretty slippy and I managed to have a bit of a nasty fall. Pillows are hard so was glad to have taken another traveller's advice on bringing my own travel pillow. Breakfast basic - cereal and a roll - but fine to start the day... On the whole though a nice place to stay for the price and location.

Great location and that's it. If you are going to stay in Venice pay a little more and get somewhere that you will be able to get a good nights sleep. Stuffy. mosquitos. towels in need of replacing. poor service from night staff. don't try to turn a light on in the dining room at night (only wifi access area).. or an abrupt staff member will turn off the light and say 'owner only allows 1 light on and walk out again'... globe was about 5watts.

For the solo traveler who only intends to be in the room to sleep, I would recommend staying here. The single room would not fit more than 1 person if attempted. A ceiling fan kept the room at a decent temperature at night (when it was about 72-75 degrees outside) although I am not sure how adequate it would be during a heat wave. 3 single rooms shared 1 bathroom on the floor.

About a 2 minute walk to the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. About a 5 minute walk to the Grand Canal. Not a bad price (60 Euros a night) considering the Redentore holiday weekend. Be prepared to pay in cash. Breakfast included yogurt, juice.

It's old and a little tired but very homey and well priced and felt like the Venice I knew 25 years ago. The gondoliers sing outside your windows every morning as they prepare their boats for the day's work and you're only a few steps away from San Marco, San Zacarria, good shops, and a host of wonderful restaurants. We loved it!

With the gondolas stationed outside the hotel, greeted by classical music and a classic reception with clear memories of past times Hotel Doni welcomes you!. Hotel Doni is a hotel that has a star placed under its name, and perhaps it is wise, not becouse it doesn't deserve more. No only becouse in that way you will get a pleasant surprise on your arrival. The breakfast at the hotel are enjoyed in the dining hall by the reception area, no channel view since the windows are too high on the wall. They serve simple breakfast rolls and marmalade, honey etc. There is juice, coffee and tea at the breakfast table. The staff at the hotel are service minded, speaks very good English and seems to have really good local knowledge of Venice.
The hotel's location is priceless, I would say quite optimal, at least for the price you pay. With about 300m to St. Mark's Square, 200m to the nearest "boat bus" stop. It gives you the feeling of being in the heart of Venice! You are surrounded by canals, alleys and shops, restaurants and sights. But one thing should be borne in mind - service at the hotel seems to be quite unique. The feeling of being welcome is not quite present in many of the restaurants and shops of Venice. The city is a must for history interested, in fact for any traveler. And the city shall be enjoyed from the back streets and alleys. Perhaps rather than from the gondolas in the canals. It is certainly a fantastic way to see the city or it ishould I say live the city, but it is also an expensive pleasure. Perhaps the "boat buses" is the best option for you, just remember your camera and also stand in the open part of the boat for the best pictures.
When in Venice, please remember one thing; Enjoy life! And a good base for this could be Hotel Doni(Albergo Doni)

Singing Gondoliers floating by at night. Fun nearby streets and food to explore. Great staff. We bought some good wine nearby for cheap, then brought it back to the hotel and drank it on the sidewalk outside, while watching the gondolas go by. Make sure you have the directions on how to get here before you go. It's a little tricky. Heck, it's even a little tricky to find the hotel once you know where it is. Make sure to wander the back streets and canals away from St. Marks. There are lots of surprises. Don't bother with the restaurant. Get a pastry and coffee nearby.

Room Tip: Get up early. Stay out late. Eat outide. Nap.
