We just returned from a two-night stay on the top floor of the Violino D'Oro in a "junior suite" with two adults and two children. Although the room was not really a "suite" in the traditional sense, it did accomodate our family of four, with a large bed for my husband and me, and two somewhat saggy pull-out twin beds for the kids (age 15 and 11). The furnishings were pretty and traditional and we had a rooftop terrace overlooking the canal and the square in front of the hotel. The location of the hotel is very convenient to the vaparetto stop, which is really important, since you have to haul your own luggage to your hotel, which usually involves getting over bridges and through confusing streets. This was really easy. though. It was a great base for wandering and shopping. As others have said, the breakfast was nothing special--croissants, meat, yogurt, and cereal, although they did bake an apple streudel each night which smelled heavenly but was gone by 8:00 a.m. No complaints--we were happy here and would stay here again.

Fantastic hotel located right by San Marco square. Perfect in every way. The hotel was very easy to get to with very few directions needed which is a plus in a city with a lot of small streets and bridges.
Since it was in Venice and land is hard to come by, I think the hotel was perfectly apportioned. The rooms were a decent size taking that into consideration and the bathrooms, though small were adequate. Also the rooms had a towel heater which we thought was nice.
Overall great hotel and a great value in an expensive tourist destination.

Location of hotel very good. The breakfast was not very impressive, the waitress was stressed and even when there were not many guests (second morning) she was still not approachable or friendly. Having said that the reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We paid extra for a superior double and have to say it was disappointing, the decor was tired. Looking at the room plan, it would appear the superior rooms are no bigger than the standard. The corridor is nice and big, but I would prefer less spent on the corridor and more on the rooms. However, we did enjoy our stay.

What a location!

We had 2 rooms in the Hotel. One with a canal view that was sensational. Wonderful to open the windows and shutters and look down on the bustling square below and the canal with its gondolas. Our teenage sons had a room with a view of an alleyway but they had opera singers outside their window.

The rooms were large by European standards particularly our canal view room which had a foldaway bed as well and still plenty of room.

We were in Venice for New Years Eve and the location was superb to get back to the hotel from San Marco Square was so close. However I don't recommend New Years in Venice. The square only had a few exit ways and we felt as though we were going to be trampled to death by the crowds as they left the square.

The staff at Violino D'oro are the best . Friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

When we return to Venice, we will return to the Violino D'Oro.

Location, Location, Location. It was a short walk to San Marco Square, but... Room was to small for 4 people. Plus I thought it was overpriced for 4 people. 700 euros for 2 nights stay. Breakfast was awful, not enough room for all the guests at one time. That being said, I know it was expensive since it was new years, but we paid for the location.
