A nice quiet family run hotel an easy walk from the train station and then an easy walk to the tourist sites. Lovely staff. Supermarket close by. Very complete breakfast. As a single traveler I had a nice large room with a large bed, but not a great deal of room left over for 'stuff' - it worked though. WiFi for small fee in a common room. Only negative was a rather tiny shower stall - barely enough for skinny me, but not for a 'large' person.

The Hotel is in a very good location midway between the station and the city centre.Easy to walk to both. The rooms vary , ours was clean, the bathroom compact, shower (no bath), with excellent supply of hot water, and wonderful towels. For those travellers (English) who crave English TV channels and tea making facilities in the room, dont go to the Scalzi-neither exist.
The breakfast room is in an adjacent building through a passageway and offers interior seating and a courtyard seating (for smokers). The breakfast comprises cereals, croissants, fruit juices, cold meats , yoghurts, bread and excellent coffee. The interior tdecor of the Scalzi is authentic , unique and interesting with antique furniture, a quaint landing for reading and playing chess. The proprietors are friendly , helpful and have good knowledge of the Englsih language.
All Verona attractions are easily accesible by foot, there is a City Siteseeing Bus but most enroute sites are best visited on foot. The Arena is splendid . Piazza Bra, Piazza Erbe wonderful people watching areas, with a rich choice of bars and restaurants, Via Mazzini offers a wide choice of high class shopping (great window dressing). Juliets balcony is possibly the most overrated "attraction" anywhere- but we all just have to have a look! And a walk fom the Hotel up to Castle and then across the Adige up to Teatro Romano and back vis the Piertra Bridge is highly recommnded
Venice is an easy and speedy train ride , just over an hour by rail-book in advance(for best rates) on TrenItalia.
For under 10 euros return and a 90 minute comfy bus ride take the 62/64 bus either from stand 10 by the Church near the railway station or from the bus stop 100 yards from the Hotel,(turn left out of Hotel) to the eastern resorts of Lake Garda. Lasize, Bardolino, Garda and the wonderful Torri del Benaco and beyond
So Scalzi is an idealbase for a 3/4 night stay to see Verona and beyond

Lovely room and breakfast area. It is just a shame that this hotel is not closer to the historical area.

My husband and I stayed at the Scalzi because it was an easy walk to the Arena. It was a very comfortable hotel, with a large room and very nice bathroom in a quiet street nevertheless near the center of town. The staff were very friendly and helpful If we are back in Verona we will certainly stay here again.

While in Verona, we only had one day, but the family-run Scalzi was perfect. Within a short walk to the Arena and the river. Quaint courtyard where breakfast was served was a great way to start our day. Highly recommended!

We came to Verona to visit the opera. Hotel Scalzi is at a perfect location, just a 10 minute walk to the Arena and the city center. Very nice and clean room, big bathroom and shower, and tasteful breakfast. But what made the hotel perfect was the very friendly, helpful and efficient staff. We would definitely return to this hotel!
