The marvellous Piazza dei Signori is the main square of the historic center of Vicenza. Originally a Roman forum and market place, the square has traditionally been the crossroads of business and leisure in the city.
The square has a rectangular shape and along one side is the Basilica Palladiana and the Bissara tower, while on the opposite side are the Loggia del Capitanio (also a work of Palladio), the Palazzo del Monte di Pietà with the Church of San Vincenzo and numerous paths are found there.
On the square itselt, the two columns were built in the 15th and 17th century and have a winged lion and a statue of statue of Christ the Redeemer on top of it.
Behind the columns there is the area (which also includes the small Piazza Biade) once used for the grain market (even today the open space is used for seasonal markets).More
