This a great hotel because it is the entire Bianca family palace now refurbished by Amalia Daniele the new owner who has interpreted the international interested for this peace of local history. From antique Jewish site then after Carlo V edict against the Jewish liberty it became a convent and than a family residence and now this wonderful easy going hotel. Ask for rooms with a terrace over the roofs and with sea view. Eat cannoli di ricotta and granita di mandorle at breakfast. You will be a king.

25 years ago this hotel was being renovated and the Jewish Baths 18m below were discovered.
If you love history and old buildings you MUST stay here.
It is absolutely stunning boutique hotel with so much character...you must ask to see and sit in the court yard. (Lovely for a small wedding or a birthday celebration)
The price is very reasonable for what you are getting...the location, the architecture and the large room (we had a mini apartment) just steps away from the sea and the wall of Ortigia.
This place is ancient and the discovered Jewish Baths are fascinating...being Sicilian perhaps a little more exciting for me (I had no idea Jewish people settled in Ortigia some 2000 years ago)
All in all amazing place and I highly recommend it
Not great for young children
All in all amazing stay
Corado helped me with parking and permit to enter Ortigia (10 m away). Do ask about this.
Grazie Corado

Room tip: Jewish baths under hotel and courtyard must be seen

This was the best hotel we stayed at on our tour of Sicily. We had a suite with a roof balcony and a sea view. We wanted to stay an extra night but was fully booked. They actually found another hotel for us and arranged our room there too.

My stay in Ortigia was great. The Hotel Alla Giudecca is a beautiful sandstone building in the Jewish quarter which has a small number of rooms so it's not too busy and faceless. All the rooms are large and the options to sleep many people per room are available. The wedding entourage which I was part of occupied more than half of the hotel and it was a great pad to be able to get to different locations and amenities in the old city. Lots of beautiful coastline and swimming spots as well as plenty of restaurants and shops are all within minutes so this is a very centrally located spot without being in a noisy area. Parking isn't easy and even if you are lucky to find something close, it is a short walk from the street to get to the hotel but this is what keeps the area quiet too. You can park at a parking station a little further away as the old city is best explored on foot. The hotel staff are helpful and have a good grasp of English. There is a centuries old Jewish bath underneath which is worth a quick look if you have time. Breakfast there was great with plenty of fresh fruit and other cereal options as well as pastries and coffee. I was happy with the broad selection on offer every morning. Some rooms have balconies, internal and open air. All are spacious and very comfortable.

Alla Giudecca is tucked away in one of Ortigia's many narrow streets towards the south of this enchanting island, just over the bridge from "mainland" Syracuse.
We'd booked two nights and had an upstairs room with a small kitchenette/living area, bedroom and a balcony. We didn't use the kitchen, and I don't expect that many would as there are are many good cafes and restaurants in the area and the hotel offers a good 'continental" (ie uncooked) breakfast that included the usual cheese, salami, prosciutto, croissants, canoli and other cakes and tarts, fruit and yogurts - along with your choice of coffees and teas. The kitchenette didn't have any kettle, cups or mugs; just glasses, which made making your own hot drinks diffucult - a minor point.
The courtyard through which we walked to get to our room was an absolute delight - many different flowers and two shades of bougainvillea, with pink 'petals' littering the wooden tables and stone yard.
The main hotel building, apart from containing the breakfast area, also contains a music room, with upright and grand pianos, and a sitting area - with books and glass cases with local artifacts, including those that relate to the Jewish baths, recenty uncovered 18 metres below. You can look down to part of the baths through a glass plate in the floor, but there are tours on the hour, for which you must book (especially when there are cruise ships in town) but the tour is worth it, seeing the baths which were carved out of the rock at least 1500 years ago and covered over when the local Jewish population were driven out by the Spanish Inquisition.
We had booked for 2 nights, but asked for this to be extended to 3 as we really enjoyed the hotel and its location. Initially we were told that we would have to change rooms but in the end the very accommodating staff were able to arrange for us to stay in our room the extra night.
Being at the southern end of the island the Giudecca area has fewer tourists and feels like a proper lived-in area. It's quiet at night and during the day most of the sounds come from local activities, which included, when we were there, church bells, an open-air mass in the local John the Baptist church - a beautiful shell with no roof; and someone practising violin.
The hotel is just around the corner from the small puppet theatre where local families continue an ancient tradition of story telling. There are also some excellent restaurants serving local produce. Ortigia is easily walkable. We drove there from Catania and were fortunate enough to find a car park (white lines) that we could use for the whole length of our stay, avoiding the yellow lines which are for residents only and the streets which are closed to traffic at times.
There are subtle shades of night life on the island, including some live music indoors and outdoors.
Ortigia and this hotel were highlights of our holiday and cannot be recommended highly enough!
